If you've had trouble germinating papaya seeds, Episode 2 of Totally Crazy Easy Gardening will end your problems for good. Growing papaya is simple if you germinate papaya seeds the easy way I demonstrate in this video. Simply take the sloppy seeds out of a ripe papaya, plant them in the soil or in a pot, then thin the papaya seedlings as they grow, selecting for the healthiest looking trees in the lot. Most papaya seeds fail to germinate because they're too old. You need to plant them fresh. Don't worry about drying, storing or anything else - just take a ripe papaya, gut it, then plant papaya seeds wherever you want them to grow! That's it - and it's easy! David The Good demonstrates with his own papaya growing projects.

Wish I knew you when you were still in central Florida! I am in Minneola. I planted papaya 3 years ago. Just threw seeds in places where I was ok with them growing. I now have over a dozen trees bearing fruit. I like it better green than ripe. Have been making papaya salads, adding it to stews, thanksgiving stuffing, casseroles and kimchi. I do have a batch of papaya vinegar and papaya wine fermenting now with ripe papaya. I can’t believe how fast they grow. From seed to fruit in less than a year. They also provide shade for other plants less tolerant of the sun in Florida heat. Thanks for sharing! Love your channel

Here in the Philippines, we got sweet tasting Papayas. I don't know a lot about gardening 😅 but I remember my mom kept throwing away leftovers skins and seeds of fruits and veggies from cooking into our "garden". Then one day, a small little plant sprouted out of no where! ^_^ We let it grow until we realized it was a Papaya plant. We never tend it, yet til now it's still growing pretty well

Had to pause this at 2:24 & say that I live in TX. I am preparing a video about papaya's, but ALWAYS tell everyone that they are one of the EASIEST trees to grow. Some think I'm crazy, but these trees are seriously EASY to grow! & I ALWAYS dry out my seeds. I don't ever put them in the soil until this is done, but maybe I should give it a go & see which proves faster in germination... Just wanted others to be able to check out both ways, great video, lots of info

Hi David, so glad I've come across your channel. I absolutely love papaya and they are very expensive to buy here in New Zealand as they are imported from the Pacific Islands. So I would just love to grow my own! I'm one of those people who've tried germinating them from seed (unsuccessfully) several times because I left them on the windowsill to dry out. Now I know they must be planted fresh and moist I'm going to try your method! Thanks David.

This comment is now three years old. Care to give us an update please? I’m in Auckland, NZ and am growing some myself. The only thing I’d wanna say about that video is I would be wanting to avoid the male seeds. I’d be wanting the hermaphrodite one or female seeds for fruit. A male or two are okay for pollination purposes but they don’t fruit.
