it doesn't matter if you clean them or not and some have said that the fermenting fruit bits may actually speed germination

Hi, thank you. I normally dry them for about 12 - 24hrs, I think as long as they are dry it’s fine.

Thanks, I just popped them and let them dry, they should store for about a year maybe longer but they’ll germinate better the sooner you can plant them.

Thank you, you can use these methods for almost anything.

I germinate all my seeds in damp vermiculite in a plastic container with a lid on that has tiny holes for ventilation. I put these in a heated propagator. Vermiculite is great because it is really good a regulating moisture and let's plenty of oxygen through so seeds won't rot. I have bad experience with compost because the chance of the seeds rotting or the compost being to dry is a lot bigger. I also got bugs like fungus gnats when using compost.

Hi Kit, thanks for the video, I like the paper towel method, but find the roots stick to the towel etc. Is it possible to just lift the paper towel with roots and all straight onto a tray of compost, so I don’t have to pick them apart? I’m inspired to try growing a papaya in uk. Im guessing they are not frost hardy, I don’t have a heated greenhouse, so wondered if they could survive as an indoor plant during winter? Thanks 👍

Hi Joe, Yeah that would work, if you spaced them apart enough you could just cut them out. No Papaya are not frost hardy, I’ve never got them past a foot or so tall but I’ll be bringing mine in this year if they survive until then. Good luck with your papaya. Thanks

Hey mate. Your vid from 2 years ago states you dry out the seeds over two days before refrigerating them. Here after a few hours the seeds are put straight into compost/paper towel. How long should I dry out the seeds for? Also this is a silly question but with compost method, is it pure compost? Can I use potting mix or garden soil with compost in it? I’m from Australia and winter is just around so hoping to grow these indoors.

Hi mate, Yeah I use to let them dry for a couple days but I’ve since found that they germinate just fine as soon as they’re dry, so as long as it takes for them to dry is fine. You can use pure compost or just soil or a mix, it’s up to you. All the best Kit

That’s great, all mine seam to die on me at around 6inches tall. Our climate isn’t suitable. Soil germination is best.

I can sprouted any seeds so far but papaya. I bought 3 papayas already and still no luck. The papaya was green when purchased, I waited until it a little riper before remove seed y started yhe germination process, but no luck! So disapponted!

I bought some online from a reputable seed source and that was probably my mistake. It appears they need to be planted from a fresh fruit.
