Hi Phillip and Darren. Im going next month to Thailand through ... Qatar. I wanna take my Air2s and 3 batt with me. Watt-hours in them exceeding 100WH. On Qatar airways website its says: Batteries in drones and/or spare batteries, with a watt-hour (Wh) rating exceeding 100 Wh up to 160 Wh, must be approved by Qatar Airways before you may carry them in your hand baggage. So I can take only 2 of batt since it has 41Wh each? And if I wanna take 3 batt how to get approval of QA before flight?
@PhillipSkraba2 жыл бұрын
@@robertbosek3362 I didn't actually have a problem flying through Qatar, as a connecting flight towards the Seychelles, the problem I had was that on the way back I would have had a long wait, so I decided to stop off in Qatar for 2 days and visit, it was that decision that caused the problem as they then wanted to know what I was going to do with a drone in Qatar, which is basically a red flight zone. If you're flying through, I wouldn't worry too much.

This is a good summary but the most important thing is knowing the flying regulations, the actual import regulations haven’t been much of an issue. I’ve taken my Mavic 3 and Mini 3 through at least 20 countries in South America, south east Asia, Australia, USA and canada, and have never even been asked about the drones. Being a drone consultant for my day job, I made sure did the research prior and the only country I found a tricky import regulation for was Peru - and they didn’t even check.

Hi Darren. Nice video. Every country has its rules, even in EASA countries. For example, in Spain you need insurance for all drones but in Portugal only for drones above 900gr. But in Portugal for the Mini3 Pro you need to be registered in an EASA country and have an EASA A1-A3 CofC. In the US to fly as a hobbyist you need the TRUST certificate (I have it and it's fairly simple, I beleive it is similar to UK DMARS). My next travel will be to the Dominican Republic and I have checked that there aren't specific requirements to fly a sub250gr drone.

This is a really good video with helpful information. I travel often around the world and always travel with a drone (or two - Mini 2 and / or Air 2S_) Helpful words to say to security is that "I have a drone, batteries are under 100 watt hours and I have discharged them to 30%) I always say that when checking in and going through security and it shows them you know the rules and are compliant. I alway offer that I have a drone before they find it, again showing honestly and openness. Never had an issue with airports or airlines. I had a recent trip to Dubai where I checked the local rules and they are prohibited so I didn't take one on that trip.

From experience as EU citizen (with 250g drone) I had no problem traveling to EU countrys. Even in Spain there was no problem... didn't even need to get it out of the bad. But for example Peru, I had to declare it, pay 100$ for import tax, wich you get it back when you leave with the same drone. It took about 1h to get all done on the airport. In practice they didn't look at anyone, but if they would, the fine would be 200$ Else really good general advices for traveling with airplane =)

All fine advice but it’s not that complicated. Traveling with a drone is actually super easy. I’ve flown in 35 countries including much of Europe, Asia and the Americas and never run into even the slightest issue with security. They never even blink. Or with authorities in any country, most of whom are intrigued by the technology. That includes places like Turkey who didn’t care at all that I had a Mavic Pro 2. And countries like the UK and Spain that say registration is required but no one ever checks. Or Vietnam where they’re technically not allowed in most areas but people are enthralled by them. Fly respectfully and with common sense and no one will care. The biggest thing is checking prior to your trip if drones are allowed in a country, if they aren’t allowed like Morocco or Egypt then don’t even bring them. They will get taken because they do check at arrival. Airlines have no idea what’s in your carry on bag, they don’t check them. No one ever checks whether you have too many batteries. I carry batteries for 2 or 3 drones, GoPros, 360 cameras, charging batteries and no one has ever blinked in security and they don’t report to your carrier. I’ve had security pull me over for loose change, liquid but never for a drone. Security gets checked when you leave for your flight, I’ve never had a bag checked upon arrival though it can happen, especially in strict countries. They don’t ask for your drone registration when you go through security because it’s not their job and they truly don’t care, they have more important things to look for than drones. The most important thing about flying in other countries is being respectful and safe. If you follow the rules you have in your home country, If you do that, no one will bother you. Keeping things organized and looking like you know what your doing helps as well. I should state that others experience may differ sadly depending on things that shouldn’t matter but often do. I’m white, middle aged and understand life is often less complicated for me because of that, but by and large traveling with drones is much easier and less stressful than we often make it in our heads.

As active and registered EU operator in one EU country, you don't need do it again in other (in fact it is even forbidden do it in more than one EU country). For example, if I am registered operator in PL I don't need register in Italy again. BUT as drone operator I am obliged to check local drones regualtions like drone marking, allowable flight altitude and of course local geo zones. It is minimum. "Australia, you need to register." That is very vague. Here, registration is not mandatory for drones that weigh under 250 grams, and are being used for non commercial operations. So basically all mini drones for recreational purposes are cool. To fly commercially you also need a license or accreditation, which the latter is easy to get online.
@phillipmaguire46712 жыл бұрын
According to CASA, (civil aviation safety Authority of Australia), you still need to register a "micro" class drone, as of Part 101 drone regulations. This does apply to the Mini 3 Pro as well. On their website where you register, they have the Mini 3 Pro under 250g, and the Mini 3 Pro Plus (over 250grams, using the more powerful batteries), so they are very up-to-date with it. The registration process is very easy and straight forward.

@@timoryan4441 Hi Tim, I have a Lowepro Tahoe BP150 rucksack which takes all the gear including the GoPro. When I got to the scanner I opened the lid and said ‘camera gear’. They asked me to lift out the major bits, drone, controller, batteries into a separate tray. All went through fine and when I was repacking two security folks came over and were asking about the drone in a ‘wow that’s cool’ way. On the way back I just did it and put them in with my kids laptops and tablets in a pile and it all went through without comment. I understood from research that if you are flying for anything other than fun or have a 250g plus drone you need to fill in forms and state the where and when of each flight. I have a mini 3 and it’s just a hobby so I complied with UK flying rules and common sense. I kept out of peoples way, I kept as low as possible and understood it was my responsibility to be safe. The geofencing in the drone is strong so use the DJI fly app to see where they are and plan accordingly, the drone won’t take off in a geofence around an airport for instance. Have a great time. D

@@timoryan4441 Ditto, planning to take my mini 2 to Corfu in August first time abroad, from my research it seems you ~need~ an EU registration number to fly anywhere in the EU for any drone with a camera. You can get the registration from any EU country and be able to fly in any other. I started looking around at the registration sites of various EU countries as some not English and the fee varies a lot. I think Ireland might be one of the easiest. but my thinking lately might be to wing it as the Mini 2 is pretty discrete to operate. You rarely see authorities in Corfu, they seem to self-police/ help each other largely. I will be putting a label on it with my full international mobile number and stating 100 Euro reward for return just in case. I don't know if you have been to Corfu? (I think my 12 time) Its very beautiful so should make some good footage. Flying in the morning will probably be easier as the wind builds in the afternoons quite a lot. There is a military aspect to Corfu to be aware of there are some coastal watch stations as it faces Albania you won't want to go near and in the Capital there are military facilities, I think around the 'New' (500 year old) fortress that I know are touchy about photography so perhaps no flying there. The 'old' fortress is equally amazing, built by Venetian craftsmen long ago. Would love to fly it but probably inviting attention. Try to get up into the hills, fantastic lush 'Jurassic' landscape and no one to bother about you flying. Also a trip to the 'abandoned' village of Old Perithia where just a few tourists and tavernas around, quiet enough for some flying and would get some great footage. Enjoy your holiday, 12 days now for me!!! Darren mate! thanks for making this timely video, learnt stuff, will get the battery bags and the tips about discharging the batteries... really useful, all new to me.

Good info; but in the US the weight cutoff is not 500g it's 249g or less. Also if you're flying here recreationally you should take the quick free online test and print out the certificate in case you're questioned. Over 249g and you need the part 107 certification which is a much harder test, you need a registration number for your drone and you need remote ID. Check with the FAA. Or just fly under 249g. Also you should mention that batteries need to be in carry on bags not checked because of the risk of combustion.

I can confirm as recently as last week that Dubai/Emirates are totally fine with loose drone batteries in hand luggage. HAS to be in hand luggage. Didn't even need to remove them from my laptop sleeve. This was 2 x the fly plus batteries. The drone itself they stipulate in hold luggage so not in the cabin.

Great information again Darren, I’ve written what I need to do so I’m ready if, “IF” we go anywhere, you have spent all my money so I doubt we will be leaving the country. We are going to Gorlston near the sea next week, and working our way down to Cantaburry and Eastbourne. For a week so I will be putting everything into practice and trying them out on the drone, as specially my new filters. If you see anyone on the coast with cap in hand, it will be me trying to get some pennies to get back home lol. Speak soon Darren. 👍😎

On the topic of discharging. You can take your drone like in the park and let it hover for 30 mins and it's gonna discharge.

Im New Mini 2 owner , as i think of how, to fly safe at night , i think i will fly first at the spot i want to shoot on daytime ( to see obstacle, take note altitude) then ill probably make A mission point out of it, before flying at night to be on safe side not crashing

Lipo bags are made of glass fiber, sometimes it will make your skin itchy or feel sharp pain in some cases.

I have a question about standard vs plus batteries so if go out to certain country they aren't allow to use plus? Do they weight the drone? If we add 360 cam on the mini it will be over 250g too

Ive taken my drones around Europe many times without any issues and never once has airport security cared, just place the drone bag seperate..well apart from geneva airport they told me off for taking stuff out my main bag, typically! The only tip needed for use is search '[country name] drone laws' plenty of good websites to help. The European airspace is covered by the same rules, so if youve been to france and taken the test, it lasts 5yrs across all countries covered by EASA.

There’s no need to take cameras and drones out when going through security, only computers. You’ll just annoy them.

I’m currently travelling central/South America and heading to Peru tomorrow. Apparently i have to pay 18% of the value of the drone. I’ve already registered it via customs so fingers crossed no issue!

I love your channel. Quick question, why don’t you put the drone in the main luggage and then the batteries in a lipo bag in your carry on luggage. I done that recently when I flew to South Africa.
