When a new grad remember beggars cant be picky. I learned that. Getting a job out of nursing school is easy but getting a good job or something you're interested in is super hard!
@kumonoameai4 жыл бұрын
That's my problem right now. All I see are jobs that I know for sure I DON'T want to do, but no opportunities for new grads in careers I'm interested in. I know beggars can't be choosers, but I also don't want to get stuck in a job I hate just for the sake of getting job experience to the point that I become depressed.

I’m in the same boat. I graduated nursing school not to long ago and my boards. I have multiple years of clinical experience in acute care, and I’m not hearing back for any interviews. I had 2 interviews so far, one rejected me for the position I wanted but offered for me to interview for a different location, the second one hasn’t even called me back even though the interviewer said she really liked me and that I’d hear back from HR by the end of the week. That was a week and a half ago and I’ve heard nothing since. Not even an email. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong…

I actually disagree about your advice about going into Home Health as a New Grad. I was told numerous times by experienced RNs NOT to do it because if patient's status drastically changes you need to know what to do and as a New Grad you are very inexperienced. Just my 2 cents on the issue.

I disagree with you I went a whole year not doing nursing homes or home health because, because of the same advice and can’t get into a hospital now! They want to see that you did home health for a year some acute care! If you can’t handle acute changes than you have no business being an RN call 911.

If ya'll need a job then just work at any dusty little hospital that'll hire you. Trust me, I've worked in one of the lowest paying hospitals in Los Angeles which paid their nurses about $40/hr including the OT pay differential and some nurses ended up going to higher paying hospitals that paid up to $50-$60/hr because they had experience. Some only lasted like 6-8 months.

It's so different the way the US do their degree/intake/course/clinical and how the new grad application process and year is. I'm in my 3rd and FINAL year of nursing in Australia, NSW and we have 1 chance at the public health system for new grad and if we don't get it that's it we can't apply later it's you apply in July for the following years intake and there's no need for letters of recommendation, having a job already in the industry isn't much of an advantage unless you know someone high up and they love you or you have family there already. there were 600 people interviewed in my area (my area is rediculously too big), not including the skype calls or interviews in another city and there are only 218 positions. at the hospital I want there's 69! And yet at my uni theres 1400 students! kinda messed up really huh. Oh and we don't have a NCLEX once we finish our degree we can get a job and get marked off all over again ugh!!! We also have rotations through wards so 6 months in 1 ward and 6 in another and sometimes we don't get a choice. we can put in preferences but that's it. With all that said I'm super keen to start nursing :D

Hi! My nursing program consists of two years (which is considered accelerated, since most other nursing programs are three years from what I have heard). I bring this up because it did not allow for much flexibility when it came to working. I was not able to work as a CNA, but I did work as a tutor at my old job one summer. Can that be valuable to mention as well during an interview?
