I'm studying fashion communication and there is only one uni that I could've studied this at in Scotland and I'm too much of a home-bird to move from here. Fashion Communication is a mix of absolutely everything; photography, writing, magazine making, editing, sketch-booking, collaging, mood-boarding and so much more. I would highly recommend a course like this because there are so many paths you can go down with a degree like this xxx

My career background very much started like yours. I did the fashion/arty classes for GCSEs and A levels. Went to college in Windsor to study Retail Merchandising and Display, got my diploma and worked my way up through retail. I was a Visual Merchandiser for 5 years and eventually had a career change once I had achieved my ‘goal’ retailer to work for. It was the most interesting and exciting job I had and I do miss it a lot 💕 x

I love this video Victoria. I’ve never commented before but feel so compelled to say how refreshing it is to hear from someone who has a genuine knowledge and experience in the industry they’re working in. It’s so empowering to hear from an independent and highly educated female voice who is in expert in her field. I’ve felt deflated watching influencers market random products to young impressionable girls, with little actual interest or passion for the brand it’s just to make a fee. I’ve felt for a long time female influencers and social media figures should use their platforms to educate in some way the further generation rather than push them to buy eyeliner and focus on exterior beauty as a way to be relevant. You’re a breath of fresh air and I’m so young glad tomorrow’s young women have you as their role model ❤️

love this... i really want to do a fashion business major but i was kinda worried about the jobs and my social anxiety.... i never had social anxiety i recently developed it and its like lately i don't like talking to people .... and like the fact that i need to talk to people or like interact and socialize to boost my marketing and all sounds scary but it is what it is and u gave such great advice.... i also plan on getting a PhD one day i.a but am glad i found this video..... i hope and pray i can reach that level

Super interesting Vic. I did my BA Hons degree in comms and PR in 2012 and did my dissertation on the impact of web 2.0 (lol web 2.0) creator content on consumer behaviour! If only I had know how it was going to blow up I would have followed that thread much further!! I wanted to start my own YT and blog and have made a number of attempts to do it but have never stuck at it. I now work in HR with the aspiration of having my own HR consultancy in the (hopefully) not so distant future. Really motivational listening to you talk about this. Motivation I need to pursue my next CIPD qualification, level 7, once Corona eases off on us all!! :-) xxx

Wow, just found this video. This is so inspiring. I just graduated from a Master of Communication degree, specialising in Digital Media and my Research Project was all about how Fashion KZbinrs/influencers can be used in high-end fashion label marketing campaigns to help brands reach a targeted audience and create brand trust and consumer loyalty. I'm planning to study a Diploma of Fashion next year and hopefully will get some work placements and work in fashion PR/marketing. :) Thanks for sharing your exciting journey in fashion and academics. :)

How did you find the communications degree?! I’m currently deciding what to study as I want to pursue PR/communications/Marketing in the fashion industry. My Uni offers a choice of Bachelor of Media and Communications (Majoring in PR) or a Bachelor of Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations. I’m so unsure what to pick! I’m scared the Communications degree is catered towards journalism perhaps or being on tv which is not what I’m going for at all. Let me know what you think !! 🖤

@@mezzafroq1 The Communications degree was great! I started with a diploma in PR and then got credits in the second year for Digital Media. It was all online, though, as this was between 2020-2022 during the start of lockdowns. Yes, most Communications degrees offer specialisations/majors in PR, Journalism or Media. If you would like to work in Marketing, the Bachelor of Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations sounds good, as it would be more specialised in Marketing. Good luck! :)

Completely forgot this was in my watch later ! I studied fashion promotion at university for creative arts in Kent. I always knew since I was 9 that I was wanted to work in fashion but always the business side of things. I had some personal trauma so I didn’t get my full degree just a higher diploma. 10 years after leaving I worked at the daily telegraph and Bose head office doing admin jobs and last week I started at ASOS as a merchandising admin assistant. I’m 31 and probably should of done this job 10 years ago! But wanted to take a chance and actually forge a career rather than dead end admin jobs

I disagree. You don’t need a PHD to be successful, but I think this video highlights consistently working hard! Get yourself some work experience, even if it’s once a week alongside your job. Maybe start blogging? This shows you have a genuine interest for the industry and It’s also a great way to show some personality to potential employer or build connections. Hard work pays off 😊 x
