Love the concept of the video and very helpful tips man! Another way to get into the industry is when people set up photography meetups, a great way to network, you meet lots of photographers, models, creatives, clothing brand owners and they can all help guide you in the right direction. For anyone from the the North, Whatsyourtone meet up in manchester is a great start!

Thank you for this video. It gave me a lot to think about, and as you mentioned, much of this advice could apply to a lot of fields besides styling! I've been interested in fashion most of my life, but I have so many creative interests (photography, styling, art, curating, writing) that I wouldn't know where to begin when it comes to working in the field. I'm a multitasker and I love learning about all types of disciplines, and I wouldn't want to be stuck doing one type of work in my career. Do you have any advice about that?
@FashionRoadman4 жыл бұрын
I think wanting to go into more than one discipline in this day and age is always difficult because people always want to box you into one. But I think if you just try your best to build up your experience in each, then that’ll be enough. After all, facts don’t lie. If you have the experience, you should get the job/role you’re after. But what I will say is with some jobs in fashion, with enough experience in it, it’s pretty easy to move into another. So with Styling for example, if you’ve got enough experience, working on something art/curation based shouldn’t be much hassle

any tips for getting into the industry with a psychology degree? I wasnt brave enough to take the fashion design pathway and now I am hoping to at least work in the industry.🙏🏽
@FashionRoadman4 жыл бұрын
Well these tips I gave don’t require a degree at all but having one definitely helps. Off the top of my head, a job I can think of using your degree is working with brands to understand the psyche of their customers and attracting more - a form of marketing. I’m not 100% sure what the job is called tbh but roles similar to that would utilise your degree very nicely I imagine!

I mostly want to be some sort of fashion icon. Be known for my outfits and how I styled them. I guess you could say I’m asking to be a celebrity but honestly that’s not really what I’m shooting for. I just want to be involved in fashion and be part of the fashion history. Right now I’m trying to brand myself and make a name for myself. I only have a few KZbin videos but I guess that’s the best way to start? Unless anyone else knows of anything else? I also enjoy doing fashion photography.

You’re lucky because now we are in the internet age you can create your own platform so I’d say KZbin and Instagram is the best way to go right now as an independent

@jantradaach.49964 жыл бұрын
thanks for putting out this video! I myself have been interested in breaking into the fashion industry, but I have been studying localization/translation, and we did a lot of writing and researching (and translations), so I'm considering breaking into the industry via magazines and such.. another thing for me is that I am a hobby artist who tends to focus more on drawing outfits... now the issue is, I am now aware of how vast the fashion industry is, but I don't know which part of it is actually for me haha. That said, starting my own brand has been in the back of my mind for as long as I could remember.

Whats your opinions on going to fashion school, and how helpful do you think a degree is for getting into the industry?
@FashionRoadman4 жыл бұрын
Ayo has actually made a video on studying fashion design on the channel so you might want to look at that. My personal opinion is, it depends on the field in fashion you’re heading into. I think some fields definitely require study whereas others, if you have drive you can build your way up without a degree.

Is your degree fashion related and how do you balance this with ur uni stuff?
@FashionRoadman4 жыл бұрын
So I’m studying Economics at university (not fashion related directly but economics can tie in with anything - especially fashion) and id say the key to balancing everything is just going out of your way and making time for it. If I have 4 hrs free I say “spend 2 studying, 1 mood boarding for a shoot, and 1 working on a KZbin video idea”. I think you have to just be strict with yourself but if you really want it, you can do it!

So... I don't know if this sounds dumb or not, but let's say you're fresh out of fashion school, you've shown your final collection for your last year, you graduated dadada. Do brands accept resumes and stuff or will they hand pick you? Like do you go to the Gucci store and be like "Here's the stuff for the manager" or whatever. Or do you email the brand or DM them on IG?
@FashionRoadman4 жыл бұрын
You apply to the job offers on the websites of the brands. That being said if you go to a major fashion design school and create a buzz, you’ll probably be hand picked. For majority of people, you have to make a good CV and portfolio and use that to apply to the available internships / job offers. There are always jobs to apply to, you can find the many available jobs on things like fashionworkie, LinkedIn, BOF careers etc
@trenhleko37064 жыл бұрын
The Fashion Archive thank you, I see now. So if I can somehow muster together a portfolio that sets me apart from the rest of the folks and a regular school, there’s a chance of me landing a job? Or do I just have to appeal to that specific brand’s aesthetic eg Gucci’s maximalism or YSL’s skinny pieces.

How important do you think schooling and the location of where you live impacts getting into the fashion industry and wanting to be a stylist/creative director?
@rob.thatsme37472 жыл бұрын
I guess its a rmajor influencing factor, bec as we know you are the average of the 5 people surrounding you, location is also important especially when it comes to fashion you are much more likely to connect in bigger fashion influenced cities, f.e. Berlin, london, paris etc
