Such a great mix of references, information, and personal experience! A must watch for anyone thinking about moving to NZ for an IT job. Such a beautiful country. If you have a couple of years of experience, it's super easy to secure a BA role, especially in a government agency in Wellington, so that's what I'd recommend you try. Contracting pays the best. However, the new government wants to reduce the number of contractors, so time will tell... Consultancy is everywhere in NZ, but be aware of the terrible work-life balance if you start working for one of the Big 4s.

Hey, is service design role already common in NZ for now?
@nikitisza
@nikitisza Жыл бұрын
Hi Regi, thanks for the comment. Yes, service design is indeed a common job title in New Zealand. Especially in Wellington at Government agencies. I ran a few service design projects while working at PwC and worked with many service designers on engagements. Service designers require a different skill set compared to UX or product design. In New Zealand, service design is about facilitation, writing, bringing a wide range of views together, synthesizing the information, and presenting it in an easily digestible format. If you're considering taking a role in service design, there are many opportunities in NZ. I'd recommend looking up Whānau-led design and Whānau-centred design, which is a unique differentiator between service design in NZ and service design in other countries. I hope it helps 😊

@nikitisza

Hi! Congrats on your visa 😊 Auckland has the most job opportunities because it's the largest city in New Zealand. However, most companies offer remote work, so it might not matter where you live; you just need a good internet connection. NZ has only one time zone, which makes things easy collaboration-wise. I only know one person who works as an in-house graphic designer, and she's based in Wellington. Most graphic designers I know are freelancers. Getting a job in IT (e.g. UI, visual design) would be less challenging. Try different cities to see which works best for you. If an in-person interview is needed, you can always fly. Thanks for the question. There are plenty of cyber security jobs in New Zealand, you should definitely apply. I’d also recommend checking out large consultancy firms’ job ads. They always look for smart new talents to expand their group. Auckland is buzzing with opportunities ☺️ good luck with your job search.

@nikitisza
@nikitisza Жыл бұрын
Hi 👏 the master's programme in UX design is only a few years old at Vic Uni, if that’s where you’re going. It’s a great programme, and people value it. I assume you’ll start with a student visa ( which might let you work part-time too), and you’ll have a paid internship as part of the programme. Build your network. The internship will get you your first Kiwi design experience, so companies will likely choose someone with local experience. After you can apply for a work and permanent resident visa too…the last one takes time, though. A work visa is easier to get. Best of luck!

Legally, I don't think you're allowed to...however, I saw lots of people doing it in the past. If you have a few years of experience and great communication skills, I'm sure you can secure a job fairly quickly.

Thank you for this very informative video. Getting a job from outside NZ seems to be very very difficult.. What are the chances of a mechanical engineer to get a job over there(NZ) my hubby have been applying since January with no luck.. Was thinking of visiting and try to connect with people, understand the market and see if he can secure a job. Do you think is a good idea?

Hi Niki, I'm Hazel from Cebu, Philippines. I'm a UI/UX Designer for 8 years. Is there any possibilities that I can find an opportunity in New Zealand while I'm here in the Philippines?
@nikitisza
@nikitisza Жыл бұрын
Hi Hazel, it might be challenging without having a visa sorted out, but that's how we got there too, so it's certainly possible. It would be best if you could secure a skilled worker visa or a working holiday visa (if you have those options available to you). Best of luck! thanks for watching

Is ielts compulsory for immigrant to New Zealand for IT job
@nikitisza
@nikitisza Жыл бұрын
Well, it depends what kind of visa you’re applying for. If you’d like to immigrate to NZ you do need to meet the minimum standard of English required by the New Zealand Government. Recently what happened is, the government provided resident visas without IELTS exams to people already living and working in NZ…so I’d recommend checking NZ immigration website for more details. I have the link in the video description. I hope it helps and good luck with your job search and application! ☺️

I wouldn't say they are in demand in NZ, but you can certainly secure a job. Larger consultancies would be your best bet, as smaller companies usually don't hire specialists.

It depends on what 'good' means to you 🙂 You gotta do your own research based on your experience, the region you want to live, and the money you're expecting. But I'd say, with one year of experience, nothing pays that well. You need to be an intermediate professional, at least. Also, companies rarely support visas for juniors. Your chance to get your visa supported increases with the experience you have, 3 years should do it. Best of luck!

Well, that's a trade-off for sure. NZ doesn't offer the Silicon valley kind of salary; that's absolutely true. However, if you do contract work in NZ, you can easily reach 250K (if you're at senior level) in a month with only 40 hours work, no extra hours. People usually move to NZ for the lifestyle...and 250K would give you more than a comfortable life & allow you to enjoy and explore this beautiful country. If you make the move, good luck with the job search. Thank you for watching!

When you have relevant skills and experience ( at least a couple of years), it’s fairly easy to secure a job in New Zealand. IT professionals are in high demand right now, everywhere. Auckland is much larger than Wellington, so applying for jobs in the area would give you higher chance to get hired. However, the Government and its agencies are in Welly, and most of them also support work visas. Give it a go and see how they respond. Good luck and thank you for watching.
