I always let him break my boundaries and when I finally stuck to them this past year, he discarded me. Found new supply at work and dropped me like a hot potato. I didnt know about narcissism at the time but i knew something was different and i didnt like it. Didnt want to give into his behavior anymore. I really didnt know it was gonna get me discarded. But God removed him cuz he knew i wasnt strong enough to do it myself. I held onto that toxic hope

Too late, I told my ex, if she wants me to help, I will. She gave me a lot of pain.

I wish someone would come up with a viable protocol for helping people get their loved ones into treatment. That would be a valuable tool

It's no different than alcohol or other drug addiction. They run on denial until they can't

Did all of it for 13 years. Did not matter how I addressed it he was unwilling to talk about anything he did. Just forget and move on. He is who he is and won't make changes to show respect. Just says he's toxic and he was willing to throw away 13 years and his family. Nothing else I can do but walk away.

It's important to protect yourself from negative or harmful situations and to prioritize your own well-being. Remember that you are deserving of love and respect.

Some of the best advice I heard on boundaries is that they are what we set for ourselves, not so much what we tell other people we set. Then it's more giving them rules and regulations to follow. My ex knocked down pretty much every boundary I ever tried to set. He admitted the more he was given a rule, the more he wanted to break it. It's exhausting to be w/ someone like that. When you have an internal boundary and you are strong on it, you don't need to tell the other person. You'll have this strong resolve w/in yourself that is much stronger than mere words. When we just say the words w/out that inner resolve, people can sense the lack of strength too. Likewise, when we have that strong inner boundary, people sense there are lines they better not cross. So much of communication is none verbal. That was a big aha moment to me.

Only accountability was I did it but now you have to just accept it. Ugh. Will say he hates himself full of guilt and shame but that's as far as it goes. 7 months in therapy and that did nothing. Said i git the closest of anyone but thats where it ended. Divorced now 4 months and he has a new life.

@@RawMotivations Can you make money and get kind of independency, before 18? So you can break off of them? Or am I cooked until the age of 18 and the end of high school?

How so? I did tell my ex I thought he had some level of NPD. I was careful to preface things as not accusing him of being a monster first though. I laid it out in terms of I think there may be a personality disorder that is treatable first. By the time I used the word, it wasn't loaded and he knew I wasn't using it in the movie version way. He knew I knew it was very stigmatized and understandable that people would find it hard to accept having that disorder. He had to ask specifically what disorder I meant. He admitted he had considered before that he might be narcissistic.

Its hard to do all this when your already messed up and need help yourself Ben. I left my husband when he was in therapy for over 3 or 4 months. He made lil changes but continued to be abusive especially verbally calling me the worst names and making accusations. we were seperated but living under the same roof. When we were still living together but separated, He tried to put me on a guilt trip because he was in group therapy so he called me an 'unsupportive' wife for not being with him as a couple because all the rest of the guys in his therapy group their wives wear with them according to him which I don't think it's true but Was it wrong for me to leave him while he wasl in therapy???? I don't know but it didn't settle well with me that he was going to therapy yet still being verbally abusive. Im sorry but i was done and moved out. After I left he tried very hard to put me on a guilt trip saying that I walked out on him when he was finally doing something about his problem but I felt strongly to just stay away and that's where I am now. I have no contact with him. Thank u!!!
