So yes, you can do 7 months (5 months for the bachelor program, 1 month break, and then 1 month for the MAcc), then do the CPA exams. It will be brutal but possible. I’d be careful with the study/sophia classes because as I did follow his advice and did as many as I could beforehand (including my economics class), my state CPA board even though they do recognize the general transferred credits, do not recognize my economics class as economics credit. So now I had to enroll in another university to get my necessary credits. 😅

@@NoLimitLonzo I’m in Utah. They do recognize my credits done in Sophia and Study but only as “general credits”. If they have a specific requirement about accounting or economics credits for example, you will need extra credits. In my case, I did my economics class in Study so my board doesn’t count it and I had to do another economics class in an accredited institution to be allowed to move on with my exams.

I hope that you chose UMPI. While I've never attended that school, I am familiar with the requirements for the BA in Accounting, their system, and tuition. I had earned several master's and a doctorate before learning of WGU, and I did their MBA and then MSML...and thought both were decently done with fair exams, and i finished each in under one term (of six months per "term". Several years later, I decided to do their MS in Accounting but, unlike many other universities, WGU required students to first do their BS in Accounting. I started and found it to be decent for most of the courses BUT horribly poorly done and very unfair for 5 of the core accounting courses--especially for Intermediate I, II, and III, and Cost/Managerial. Many other students felt the same. There were about 4 significant reasons for this: 1) WGU profs never see the actual exams; 2) the practice exams in those four courses often are very unlike the actual exams; 3) the Wiley digital texts are poorly done with not enough examples of problems, and again, the unit practice tests IN the texts are often much easier than and are very unlike the real tests; 4) profs don't provide answer sheets with how problems are worked for the practice tests and YET, you can schedule a phone call with them to get the answers (makes no sense!)...and Wiley gives no/little feedback and actual examples of how missed answers are properly worked. And, perhaps the most disturbing at all is that the profs have known about all of these issues for sometime, claim that they are trying to improve things, but NEVER do!! So, if they are the same as when I did them...yes to WGU's MBA and MSML, but avoid their BS Accounting like the PLAGUE!!...and I'd imagine, with the same profs and Wiley texts, that their MS in Accounting sucks just as badly. If you haven't started one of those programs yet, I hope my info is helpful. Good luck!

But I've seen many people say traditional colleges and universities are a waste of money and that doing the courses online are way more cheaper and faster. If anybody has a good understanding or advice on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

if you can get financial aid for cal state it hink i would be better because you haev more networkin opportunites and recruiting opportunities. with cal grant and pell grant you will likely have to pay 0 dollars. I went to a UC and paid 0 dollars with housing included. however, i am now enrolled in wgu to get the additional credits for the cpa as my undergrad was in finance. wgus is much moire convinent now becasuse im working full time and is self paced

I just did research for Colorado. WGU is accredited by "the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities". I emailed the Colorado department of Regulatory agencies and they told me to look at section 1.5 of the "accountancy rules and regulations", I did that and according to 1.5 b an "accredited baccalaureate granting college" is one deemed accredited under 12-100-103 and 12-100-108 of the CRS. There are other rules and stipulations and it has to be deemed by the board, and if the college isn't accredited by the 12-100-103 you can still get those credits accepted by the board if you can prove the credits are transferable by a college accredited under 12-100-103. Luckily though, "the Northwest Commision on Colleges and Universities" is listed as accredited under 12-100-103 thus meaning that WGU is an accredited college in Colorado, thus meaning WGUs masters in accounting is accepted for the CPA exam. That is what I got from the research I did.

The bachelor degree alone is not worth it. You will need to take WGU's masters program to be eligible for the CPA exam which is what actually matters. Accounting degrees are nothing more than stepping stones, the CPA is the milestone.

You have to have hours of experience as well as the degree in the first place to even be able to take the CPA in most states so there fire it is absolutely worth it because you can potentially get a masters AND bachelors from WGU for half the time and a quarter of the price.

@Corinthian Sanders I live in New Jersey and I looked up the current requirements and that’s what they said 150 credits hours, 1 year of experience and $1100 in fees. 150 credit hours is a master’s degree because a bachelor is only 120 hours so you have to get a master to achieve the full credits here in Jersey.
