In this video we take a look at a game I played earlier using my maxed mastery level Arcturus Mengsk commander, and I share a little bit of insight into some of the tricks and special mechanics that this new StarCraft 2 Terran Co-op Commander has.
Some of these tips include ways to increase Imperial Mandate even faster using Imperial Witnesses, and using Calldown Supply Bunked to quickly gain Troopers to clear out the expansion before converting them into Laborers and immediately building your second Enlistment Center.

Arcturus Mengsk is asking every able-bodied citizen to commit themselves completely to the defense of all we hold dear. For some time, our beautiful worlds have been under attack from enemies at all sides: the zerg vermin that want to consume us; the invading protoss who serve their own sinister, alien agenda; and worst of all, the human traitors who have cast their lot with anti-Dominion terrorists. While those threats will be dealt with in time, for now we must focus our efforts on rooting out the true enemy that lurks in the shadows.

ARCTURUS MENGSK IS TAKING CONTROL
Control the battle with an iron fist as Arcturus Mengsk, the newest Co-Op Commander for StarCraft II. Using conscripted laborers and troopers, Mengsk can put immediate pressure on his enemies and cement his power in the early game. Long-range artillery and “inspirational” broadcasts help Mengsk project his force across the battlefield, and his elite Royal Guard units grow in strength as they gain experience from battle, enhancing their ability to serve their emperor.
Feed an endless stream of cheap troopers into the meat grinder, softening your enemies for your Royal Guard to go in for the kill. When a fallen trooper drops their weapon upon their death, another will pick it up and resume the inexorable march toward victory.
Instead of energy, Mengsk uses a resource called Imperial Mandate, which you generate by training and ranking up the Royal Guard. Alternatively, Mengsk’s Imperial Witness can broadcast a message of indoctrination, which instills loyalty to Mengsk in your Troopers, in turn generating even more Imperial Mandate. And as his Imperial Mandate grows, Mengsk gets access to even more powerful and controversial abilities.
Should the need arise, Mengsk can unleash Nuclear Annihilation on his foes, raining atomic bombs on the battlefield, leaving nothing but ashes.

Should be required watching for anyone playing mengsk. These few strats just make him so OP. As a side note, the range on the imperial witnesses is so large, placing them over your enlistment center works a just as well for miners, and will also help troopers nearby. You'll probably also want to rush out amplified airwaves along with you witnesses.

I just learned several things from this. thanks! (especially, didn't know troopers could build supply bunkers while still in trooper/soldier mode and didn't know multiple workers could build the same building!)

Something that I usually do but trades off a bit of the eco build, after you clear the rocks you take 6 troopers to clear ally's expo while the other 6 goes to build CC, no need for someone like Zeratul, Alarak or Karax with their masteries, but everyone else could use a hand.

Oh that's a good point. I'll do that more often for my ally - I def do this already where the expos are close to each other, like in Oblivion Express.

Yet I’m here to comment a year after everybody, I find that Mengsk one of the hardest commanders to play, fun and versatile don’t get me wrong, but the micro is confusing n frustrating. I mean the workers can be efficient if u r good micro, otherwise like me it’s a mess. Tried a few times, still can’t do good job 😂. Great video thou!

I did figure out how he's supposed to be played, but the others keep complaining about noob players ruining their brutal mission with Mengsk. One thing i'm not sure with is if the abilities bonus damage is much more worth it than the army cost reduce because i feel like the Nuke annihilation and the wardogs are busted.

I tend to play heavy on the troopers and usually only a few royal guard units. I for sure notice a definite decrease in the strength of the Zerg and nuke calldowns without the mastery points, so really I guess it depends on how you want to play.

why do you have 50 mandat point at start ? in your mastery page you have only 25.

This game was from the first week of when Mengsk was first released, and back then the starting mandate was 2 per mastery point. Blizzard released a balance patch some time after that and changed it to the 1 point per mastery.

I didn't know his marines can make supply bunkers. That'd save a lot of actions in my games and allow me to not have to drop bunkers as frequently to swap them for repairs. Mengsk used to be busted at 90 with that double calldown. He seems weak to high templar. I guess level 3 ghosts can emp them but it'd be rough if they storm u first. Vs banes u just put a marauder in front or maybe some firebat troopers.

So, basically, Mengsk is a non respawning Zagara, with a faster top bar recharge?

Yeah I'd think so! My feeling is pretty much that his dispensable army = Terran "Zagara" (plus some elite units)

@@VincenteIL That's actually kinda disappointing. I mean Mengsk is the friggan EMPEROR, why would he utilize throwaway units, when he literally has the best the Dominion can offer. Not to say I don't like playing him, it just always struck me as weird. He needs a hero unit for his early game.

@@FBI-ju5no I wouldn't say they're the backbone necessairily - I would say he has three distinct viable playstyles. Mass conscripts (Death Merchant), Mass Royal Guard (Principal Proletariat) or mass ESO's (Toxic Tyrant). So, you can focus on elite units if you want to. The conscripts, especially fully upgraded ones, are actually surprisingly effective as well.

If it’s pitch black then you won’t be able to otherwise fog of war shouldn’t block the drop.

This game was from the first couple of weeks after Mengsk was released, back when his mastery points let him start with 60 mandate energy and that was enough for two bunkers. They nerfed Mengsk like a month after he was released, so now he starts with a max of only 30 energy with the masteries: news.blizzard.com/en-us/starcraft2/23230078/starcraft-ii-4-11-3-patch-notes

I think at the time this was one of the mastery points unlocks. I'm not sure if that's still the same now though.

what is the point of instant expansion when you float 1000 minerals at 3 minutes? this is just crippling yourself for no reason.

Why do you have 5 witness and 5 medivacs with the army but no units? Weird build man..

3 witnesses were supposed to stay at the mineral lines over the laborers, but a few times in the game they ended up in my main army hotkey - I only meant to have 2 with the main army. And medivacs are because the bulk of the army was roughly 80 supply of troopers, but yeah could probably do with fewer medivacs.

When your ally leaves, its no solo, because you get double economy at start :) Your build is completly and irrelevant in this scenario.

You're right, I know it's not "true" solo, but the general idea of the expansion before the 2 min mark and rushing out witnesses is definitely usable in any game with max mastery Mengsk :) I play it every time in usual brutal games with a partner as usual, and I've seen plenty of others play it.

@@VincenteIL still its pretty useless with your mates Economy on top of yours. 12 free workers, 3rd base and No supply cost for the additional eco. You can solo brutal anyway but how you do it is different If you have twice the Eco from the start and 50% more money when getting your nat. Even with the additional eco you are still pretty slow to max 2 bases. You are supplyblocked for an eternity and float tons of money on top of using kerrigan.

@@VincenteIL and its your 4th Not 3rd you are getting, Later on. 4 base mengsk omg, Bad build and slow Expansion. 4 base mengsk is not "pretty much solo". Get to sub 2:40 for füll 2 base saturation consistently, stay on 2 bases and get at least 6min faster. Cut the garbage Units and dont Spam witnesses. 3 are enough. 1 each mineralline and 1 to the army

No, he is "true" solo. Solo only means "A single player play the entite game". That's all. If you also want to ban double economy, you should say "No ally's resource".

@@spike333s3 he uses kerrigan, the ressources from her ability and His allies Main saturated with kerrigans workers which dont Count towards His supply. he is 2base from the First second thx to that. He is Not building a cc at His allies Main Location nor does He use His own workers. Normally he cant use His allies topbar, but kerrigans topbar is included in the Heroes abilities. So what did you say about "true" solo again?
