A correction: The Nib (a webcomic anthology) won the Harvey Award in 2020 for "Digital Book of the Year. Fried Rice by Erica Eng was nominated for a Harvey Award, but won the Eisner Award that year. I got my awards confused and, of course, didn't realize my mistake until after I posted the video. Whoops.

A clarification: the Ignatz Awards were the first *of these five* to recognize webcomics. Webcomics - even if that term wasn't universally accepted - were winning awards before then. The Eagle Awards in the UK, for instance, had a best "Favorite Comics E-zine/Web-Based Comic" category a year earlier. And there were online awards on Compuserve and Usenet newsgroups as well.

Hey steve big fan of the middle age, I had a question? How far back does the panel look at a webtoon, work for an eisner is for the previous year? But your web comic has been going on for years now... so your most recent episode would be of that same year (2021) and the 1st episode was years ago... where do do they go by? All of it ? Or do they just read the work form 2020?

Thanks for the kind words, KJ. In theory, each award is only considering episodes which appeared during the eligibility period - usually the calendar year (the Ignatzes are different in that they run from mid-year-to-mid-year). BUT I do suspect that the judges of the Eisners and the jury of the Ringos likely go back and read a longer story from the beginning if it’s a long-form or serialized story as it can be hard to judge a later part of a story without understanding the context. The NCS voters are likely only looking at the 8 episodes submitted and I doubt they look beyond those.

@@SteveConleyArt so when submitting A webcomic ... is it per episode? Or is it a link to the full web comic ... Thanks for the reply?
@SteveConleyArt3 жыл бұрын
@@KJFROMCALI each award has it’s own rules and they can change from year to year. For example, for the Ringos and Eisners this year, I submitted a link to the first episode of 2020. For the Reubens/NCS awards, I submitted eight specific comic strips from 2020 all combined into one PDF. Each of the awards has a form you have to fill out as well.

Thank you for this super useful tips! Congrats on the nomination back in the day, and cool to be invited in the panels/juries! This was super helpful! I tried submitting our comic for 2020! If the webcomic is ongoing can you keep submitting every year, or is it only the year it was started?
@SteveConleyArt3 жыл бұрын
Heidi, Hi. Usually, as long as the webcomic produces enough episodes during the eligibility period (and each award has their own rules), a webcomic is eligible each year. The NCS just announced their division nominees for 2020 and all the long-form nominees had been nominated in previous years. Good luck submitting yours! :)

Out of curiosity, does the comic need to be finished to be able to submit it ?
