Quick tip on making the hats sound realistic, drop out the closed hat when hitting the open, I was told a long time ago that if a drummer is playing they cannot hit the closed and open at the same time as its the same cymbal

Boom bap in a daw sure sounds different. It’s the imperfection of the finger drumming and timing that makes it have that quirky feel. I would do this by hand in a daw instead of penciling it in it is suppose to sound grimy and like you just can’t catch the beat.
