God watching this makes me realize how bad my Hair routine is😭

I think the best advice is to not use heat tools like the blow dryer or any straightening or curling devices. I haven't used a hairdryer or any heat devices in years. This also eliminates some of the products you will need on your hair such as the heat protectant and even some other additional products. If you don't use a lot of products on your hair then if you shower after a workout or some other such thing you don't need to re-wash your hair. Just the Steam and slight wetness itself will spring the curls back up. I find this works for my long hair with ringlets. Of course do what's best for you. I often find less is more especially if you use the right shampoo use the right conditioner and use the right wide tooth comb. The best comb I found is the di Prima model 15H. The di Prima Combs are not made of regular plastic. These are made of Something else which is allows a lot of slip through the hair and there are no seams on the comb to catch the hair. That model is difficult to find so the next best is Giorgio G59 on Amazon. This also has a lot of slip through the hair and has no seams. Yes, a dry cut with a curly specialist is vital. They cut the hair dry because different curls lay in a different way it's usually one side of the head has more hair than the other. Usually she does my dry cut then she washes my hair and looks at it wet and may cut a little More. I also use the bed head for curl definition and shape the curls with my fingers. I really don't use much on my hair because the cut, the comb and not using heat Keeps the hair healthy.

Thanks for your video. You are spot on about a good haircut making a huge difference. Every stylist l have been to has told me l have difficult hair to cut. I have twice as much hair and have been to three different curly hair specialist that each specialized in a different method. One ruined my hair-so much cut out that l had no curl, just stringy frizz. The other two specialist, one cutting wet and the other dry, gave me a good cut, but there wasn’t enough difference in how my regular stylist cut my hair except for the cost. All three curly stylist were certified. Just remember, if you pick a method and curly stylist, do your research on that stylist (or any stylist). None gave me a haircut that suited my face-big, bushy, curly hair morphing my narrow face. I decided to go to someone who specialized in shag, wolf, and mullet cuts. I looked at before and after pictures and read reviews about the salon and every stylist there. I got a consult first. The absolute best haircut l have ever gotten. The complete opposite of what the curly stylists recommended. Believe me when l tell you two of the curly stylists were very accomplished, and the third one was recommended by a friend. Yes, my hair looked good when the best two stylist gave me a cut but the cut did not show off my curls like the modified shag l have now. No one ever wanted to cut layers, much less the many short layers as l have now, always repeating the mantra, “you need the weight and length so your hair doesn’t poof out.” For me, the layering made all the difference in finally showing off my curls and not taking over my head and face. This worked for me.

Beautiful!! 😍 I am one of those who does not have a strong root wave. I do have some, just not enough to have much volume. I used to avoid putting product on my roots, because I have, mostly fine, thick hair, and I thought it would weigh my roots down even more, but, then, I realized it really helps the wave when I diffuse my hair. Plus, I don't know if this is common or different, but my roots will actually wave up better two or three days after I wash and style my hair, even if I don't refresh it. To refresh my hair, all I have to do is just spritz it with water, enough to dampen it (I do not add any more product, only occasionally a little spray gel), and then I diffuse it. It only takes about 5 minutes, and my hair looks better than wash day, because for some reason my roots curl better. Thank you, Gena, for the oh so helpful tips!!

I find using Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Shampoo & conditioner for each wash really helps. It's very gentle. I live in a very hard water area though. Also, for curlier roots I use a light leave in conditioner root to tip and have found that it I add products and style the top of my head first then work to the back my roots are curlier and have more volume, possibly because I concentrate more when I begin adding product.

I do all the things you did and then I use a steamer on my hair after I diffuse it and all the curls take their most natural state. This gives my roots the definition and volume they need. I can also use the steam to refresh my hair after waking up and sleeping with it in a high ponytail.

How do I steam it
@DanteVelasquez8 ай бұрын
@@purrozabae4403 You can use a face steamer or clothes steamer and you carefully direct the steam to touch all parts of the hair making sure not to burn yourself. You just have enough product in the hair to keep it from getting frizzy beforehand. You will instantly see it curl up. It takes practice to know how much stream your hair needs to get your perfect curl shape and how much product will keep the frizz at bay but once you get it you have a perfect solution. I steam my hair right after diffusing on wash day and also to refresh on day 2.

Brush styling also helps when you have very thick hair and high-porosity hair. Whenever I tried just glazing and scrunching, it would inevitably miss some strands and I'd end up with pockets of hair that was frizzy/puffy and not defined. By brushing it, I usually cover most or all of my hair and get much better definition.

Sally's Beauty Supply has a hard water shampoo. I have well water (water that is pumped straight from the deep earth) and use this shampoo once a week to prevent mineral deposits from collecting on my hair. You can buy a variety of clarifying shampoos or swimmer's shampoo, but hard water is different. This shampoo is gentle for everyday use. It also has a matching conditioner. I have baby fine hair that is 2b/2c/3a. I use this once a week to remove the product, natural oils and mineral deposits I usually see in the ring in my toilet bowl (yep that is where you see it besides your shower doors). I have ultra sensitive skin that loves this shampoo.

I've just recently discovered that my hair went wavy/curly after menopause. This seems like a lot of work and a lot of product. I'm totally, at 56, not willing to spend that much time or that much money on my hair. Is there anything just as effective that is cheaper and faster? I get you. I was you at that age ... but when you are me, at 56, all of this product and process will be null. You'll be over it.

I've only just discovered Gena. I'm 58 and had curly hair since my teens when I did nothing with them so they were just a frizzy mess or I battled against them. Then I gave up the battle but, like you, the whole "routine" thing just seemed like so much faff. I haven't been near a hairdresser for nearly 30 years now but, because my hair is now thinner than it was, I am making a bit more of an effort!!

Oh my gosh! I also only got curly hair at menopause!! I love it because I only have to wash it twice a week now. Wash day is a bit more intensive, but I literally do t do ANYTHING the rest of the days. Here are my keys. 1. Look up a curly stylist on Deva Curl’s webpage and spend the $ to get someone certified to cut your hair. They will show you what products you need for YOUR hair. 2. I wash, condition it and put in gel all in the shower (they’ll show you a simple procedure). 3. Microfiber towel scrunch to damp dry. 3. Diffuse dry. 4. Put up in a “pineapple” at night to protect your curls. 5. Take it down in the morning, shake it out and go about your day! Like you, I can only handle a little fuss. But I get compliments on my curls all the time. Best of luck!

I love your vids. The techniques have been SO helpful, especially because I have curl like yours, and the same density… would you have any tips for relaxing the curls naturally? I know that diffusing straight down helps a bit… air dry doesn’t do it for me because the coils get tighter as they get 100% dry, as though I had diffused for curl. My length is also like yours and seems like same fine texture - but I do have a bit of damage from years of not caring for my curls properly. So I would love to hear what you may suggest to get it a little more of a wave without needing high-heat styling tools.?

As I mentioned in the video, you do not have to do all of these steps. This video is designed to just show you various techniques and tips you can choose to see if any of them help. My wash days take me anywhere from 30 min - 1 hour total and that includes shampooing and conditioning. I wash 1-2 times per week so it lasts me all week. If you put in a bit more effort on wash day, I find it helps the results last much longer so you don't have to refresh much at all. Unfortunately most curl types require effort and just washing and letting them go as is results in frizz and dryness.

I don’t have straight roots, but they are super frizzy and it’s like they don’t absorb the product. I’m trying a lot but I think oil helps. In my case I think it’s because of dryness.
@GenaMarie Жыл бұрын
For dryness, make sure you're taking your conditioner all the way up the roots (not the scalp though) and your leave-in or curl cream as long as they're not a heavy products. Oils are just meant to seal in moisture and soften, they won't control frizz. Gels are mainly what will control frizz because they provide hold. Also take your gel all the way up to tame frizz.
