Sorry, as a former dancer and gymnast, a lot of this doesn't sit right with me. Static stretching, done regularly over time, does improve flexibility. If it didn't, I wouldn't still be able to do the splits 10 years after having done all that stretching for hours every day. There's a reason contortionists spend so much time static stretching. It does work. Maybe this is useful for people who never had good stretching habits, but this feels like a shortcut to subpar results. Just stretch every day. It takes discipline, but a lot of people just want instant results I guess.

2 things... It is NOT just the opposite muscles being worked having an effect, it is also but more so what you're doing is a form of "range of motion" exercise, or dynamic active movement of the muscle which then loosens it up. Further, ANY type of "active" work on the muscle (dynamic or static active) WILL actually allow you to be looser and not tighten up as much through the day. This get's into my second point, which is Isometric Flexibility training (or Static Active)... which is another way to achieve similar but actually GREATER results much much faster, especially if you incorporate "dynamic active" flexibility prior to every workout and waking up for the day with Yoga's most common Sun Salutation. This is the really important one to creating natural constant flexibility naturally through the day, the dynamic activity. Anyway, what Isometric Flexibility training is, is when you go into a stretch and then you "tense" the muscles the one being stretched foremost, and you can also incorporate the muscles around it for 5 seconds, then relax, and go down a little further, tense again, etc. doing this over and over, remember to breathe as part of the process in the standard way in relation to tension and relaxation. Doing this immediately after your workout as your primary stretch with the Dynamic exercises (joint rotations, leg lifts, etc.) in the morning and prior to exercise as your warmup will create massive gains in flexibility in amazingly short times. Even better, these are NOT "passive" stretches, so you are building "strength" in the muscles which is important for proper strength and flexibility balance, in contrast to passive stretching which can create weakness within the muscles, because they aren't being built to properly support those higher flexibility levels.

Excellent video and technique. I tried it and after 10 reps, each leg, I could touch the floor. Noticed a big difference right away.

Holy snacks. I've been having hip pain/tight hams/tight quads and discomfort in the left-side groin area for a week now. Tried rolling and doing all kinds of static stretches, and this subsided it.
