So just to be clear, you need to purchase a IC card (Suica or Passmo) to go through the ticket gate correct? Also, when do you scan the actual ticket? Is it checked on the train by the conductor?

There are two types of tickets. One is a liner ticket. The other is a basic ticket. Basic tickets can be purchased using an IC card or with cash. There will be a check by the conductor on the train.

@nithinb790 The popular transportation IC card in Japan is called Suica. I don't think it's necessary if you have already purchased the Keisei Liner. can i solve your problem?

@nithinb790 The Keisei Liner requires a liner ticket and a Basic ticket. You can pay for this ticket with a transportation IC card（Suica), but if you don't have one, you can buy just the Basic ticket at a ticket vending machine.

I’ve read that when people mean the JR Ueno Station, they say Ueno (not JR Ueno), but if it’s the Keisei Ueno, they say Keisei Ueno. But in your video you refer to the Keisei Ueno by Ueno. That’s confusing.

JR Ueno Station and Keisei Ueno Station are in different locations, but you can get there in a few minutes on foot.

If we take the Keisei Skyliner to Nippori Station, we only need to buy the liner ticket and then tap the Welcome Suica card at the gate right? We don’t need to insert the liner ticket right? This is going to be so confusing for first visitors since IC cards are no longer for sale to foreigners. Some people probably won't figure out how to get the "full" ticket.

Currently, new Suica cards are not being issued due to material procurement issues. Also, you can pass through the gate with a ticket even if you don't have a Suica. The Keisei Skyliner stops at Narita Airport → Airport Terminal 2 → Nippori → Keisei Ueno. Keisei Ueno is the last stop.

i am trying to understand as much as possile before i leave the uk for japan in april, as i will be very tired after a 17hr flight.. so have i got this right? you need one ticket for the train which ever train company you are using and one for the entrance to the station which is the basic tickt, there are some trains yu dont need a basic , is the basic ticket also called the boarding pass? what was that machine on the platform where the train was coming in, im assuming thats to get a train ticket as you woulnt get through the other one without a station ticket?

Most trains only have one ticket. The Shinkansen, Narita Express, and Skyliner require two tickets (a train ticket + a limited express ticket). The vending machine on the platform is for a limited express tickets.

①To ride the Skyliner, you need two types of tickets a liner ticket and a basic ticket. Liner tickets will be checked by railway staff on the train. Basic tickets are passed through a machine. ②There are two ways to purchase basic tickets. One is an IC card. Payment can be made with an IC card by touching the machine. Second, buy a ticket. In this case, you don't touch it, you put it in the machine and it passes.

Ok. I figured. Last time I rode NEX first time with Skyliner. I was just wondering at first why some videos they scan physical liner ticket in blue gate and then tap IC card and then other videos like yours just tap the IC card only. I thought the liner ticket needs to be scanned through machine first in order to exit

There is a taxi stand at Keisei Ueno Station. However, the taxi stand is not at the main entrance, but inside the station, and is on the left as soon as you exit the ticket gate. This is extremely rare for a call button type taxi stand.

The Narita Express does not stop directly at Ueno, so there is no round-trip pass. The Skyliner, which directly connects Narita and Ueno, does not have a round-trip pass, but the Skyliner is cheaper than the Narita Express.
