Good to know that President Mahama actually started the giving of citizenship because I was wondering if the process would be continued under Presidential order.
@bowgate381725 күн бұрын
First president Kwame Nkrumah started the citizenship initiative. That's how come W B Dubois and many others became a Ghanaian citizens in early 60s. It has been going on for a long time not just in recent years.

How did Dr Umar Johnson get citizenship so easily?
@multyz114 күн бұрын
Great question.
@JamesDean-gl6nx10 күн бұрын
The Ghanaian government is paying Umar Johnson to use his online Pan African influence to help build tourism. This is like a business exchange. So you will see an announcement soon from Umar Johnson, promoting trips to Ghana for black diaspora. Umar Johnson need the money to get his school up and running in the states so he can soon open a school in Ghana.

What about the right to abode
@IvyProsper13 күн бұрын
That's the right to live in the country. It's not automatic citizenship. The Right of Abode is the pathway the diaspora uses to live and help get residency. Not citizenship Once you have residency then you can work towards obtaining citizenship
@iTuber01217 күн бұрын
I have read from several first hand accounts that one should register their interest in obtaining citizenship from Ghana with the Office of Diaspora Affairs and that, from time to time, they draw names from this registrar and grant them citizenship.(and of course they do the usual background checks, vetting to see if they have any investment in the country etc) Is this true? Of course if you are wealthy or well known celebrity, your chances increases dramatically... eg Stevie Wonder, Dr Umar etc
@IvyProsper17 күн бұрын
Diaspora Affairs helps with letters of support in the citizenship process and because they are located in the Office of the President, they often petition on behalf of the diaspora for the president's consideration when he grants citizenship outside of the normal process of citizenship.
@iTuber01217 күн бұрын
I should add that I'm part of a group of Diaspora which has made a 6 figure investment in the country in agriculture. We'd definitely be interested in learning how to reach out to this office

Greetings Ivy, and thank you for sharing this video. Has the recent conferral of Ghanaian citizenship to the 524 members of the diaspora impacted President Elect Mahama's decision to pursue a similar approach to mass citizenship grants? Additionally, has this action influenced other African nations to consider implementing similar measures? I hope your holidays are going well and wishing you a Happy New Year.
@IvyProsper25 күн бұрын
That’s a great question! I don't have any answers for that. I don't know what the incoming president plans to do. Nor do I know if other African countries plan on doing the same. I know that the success of the Year of Return and Beyond the Return initiatives in Ghana, has influenced other African countries to want to do similar programs to encourage the African diaspora to come to their countries. There have been delegations of government officials from other countries that have come to Ghana to seek knowledge and understanding as to how Ghana was able to attract so many visitors from the diaspora over the last 5-6 years.

If you have at least one Ghanaian parent or Grand parent who live outside Ghana where you also live, it is easier to apply for the citizenship from outside Ghana.

Can you advise me how to get a ghana card although i am now a uk citizen but have a ghanaian birth cert and a expired Ghana passport
If your parents or grandparents are Ghanaian then citizenship can be applied for through them. Ghana does not do citizenship based on ancestry DNA tests.

I am in Mexico. Been here for 5 months so I could save a ticket to get to Ghana. I have to leave Mexico on February so I hope I’m flying then, just ordered my African Ancestry to. 😊 I did the DNA Ancestry also. I am 32% Nigerian but also Ghanaian as well and others. Does it matter the most is Nigerian? I had a stroke and now I live on social security disability. If I want to apply citizenship do I loose my social security?

57:20 Marrying a Ghanaian: Register after marriage, then potentially wait 2-5 years to get citizenship.. Naturalization: Apply for residency, live there for 12 months consecutively, live in Ghana for 8 years to get citizenship. Hmmm. 2-5 years Versus 8 years.. I guess I'll be marrying a Ghanaian when I move to Ghana. I know how it sounds. I'm not just in it for the citizenship. I'm already dating here in the states to find a potential wife, but these marriage laws has corrupted the institution all together. I might as well hold off until I move to Ghana to find my bride. Appreciate the info Ivy.

We Black people are the Original People so we are already citizens. We shouldn't have to pay for citizenship nor any visas, nor residency fees. This can be seen a a total money grab as there 's no repatriation programs to help Black Ascendants in returning. This is a najor insult to our Black ancestors who were enslaved. So many Black Ascendants have suffered due to betrayal and lies of the Ghana government and others the was supposed to be be family. Prayfully the new administration of President Mahama and Vice President Nana Jane will bring righteous changes to citiizenships without fees.

Easiest way to qualify for Ghanaian citizenship. STEP 1. Take a flight to Ghana in December visa free. STEP 2. On arrival purchase a handheld Ghana Flag at the airport. STEP 3. From the airport take a Uber ride to the Black Star Square. STEP 4. At the Black Star Square raise your handheld Ghana Flag. STEP 5. With your Flag raised, shout: "Ghana Jollof is the best in the World". BAM.... You are QUALIFIED.

If you have not lived in Ghana consistently for about 5 years, citizenship shouldn't be granted. Ghana is just giving citizenship to just any anyone who hasn't done anything there or married a Ghanaian. How did Dr. Umar got his citizenship?
@IvyProsper14 күн бұрын
I was surprised to learn he got it. That would have been by the presidential executive order to grant citizenship. Which supercedes the normal process.

@IvyProsper We are letting the diaspora pour in, and at the same time, Nigerians have overpopulated our country. There is a Nigerian nurse here where I am in the USA. She told me that if we don't take control of the Nigerian population coming to Ghana every day, we will regret it. She says her Igbo chat group, they have been advised to start buying land in Ghana to create their own community. When they come there, they don't want to go back. In 10 years, our country's identity will be lost.
