Something that seems to be overlooked a lot is how we think... but these are games we're playing; our brain is one of the most important factors. Not only do we need clarity and game knowledge, but also the right beliefs when going into each round.
This stuff takes time to build, but try to remind yourself before each game ... what's important, what's your goal, what you want. And then at the end, ask yourself what you learned, how you can improve and what you'll do next time.
The same principles can be applied to many things in life.

When I find a player is better than me, I INSTANTLY lose hope. I just turn into a nervous wreck and it makes me wanna quit. I can't take ANY pressure. This problem has constantly affected me in championships where I lead and once I know the attention's on me, I BREAK like a wooden plank. It led me to quitting the game although I try my best to get back at times :'( Reason being, I don't 'enjoy' or have 'fun' like you said. *It's serious.* When it's serious, it's not a game anymore. Every second, every frag, every little mistake counts. And getting it wrong can *really annoy you* and make you quit. Having said that, your videos are on point and very inspirational. I hope to get back better and stronger.

think of it like, you know how if you put lots of effort and thought in to something and it gets none of the appraisal it should have, compared to you just making a joke throwaway thing and it becomes wildly successful? its kinda like that. if you put too much thought and pressure in to a situation then it gets half the result it should have, compared to you just playing it out like you would play anything else.

The mindset I always use when playing games is trying to learn as much as I can, rather than winning. Because in some situations, while I might be able to have the game tell me "you won!" the easy way, there's an opportunity to take the slightly more complicated, foreign route that challenges me more and doesn't guarantee a "win" for that round, yet improves my skill in the long run. This is also why I like games with high skill ceilings where I'm always learning.

They definitely have a nice touch on the channel. I have been going back and forth on your vids for a month or so now as I plan on getting a new mouse (decided on the FK2 which I should be ordering soon and currently have an ec2 evo). Saw the other how to I commented on and I can safely say they felt like a nice seasoning on some good food. Sat through the entire playlist and even though these thoughts were something I've thought about and practiced, you found a way to reword these thoughts and even add new points for me to think about. Honestly I feel like I can get back on track for Smash and keep feeling good about Overwatch because of how you talk about these ideas. Your voice is also very nice for video making and your thoughts laid out very nicely. Look forward to supporting you and the channel down the road. Already sending some vids to friends hopefully they too can improve or hell maybe find a new mouse they like.

Actually Zy. This mentality got me good grades in medical school. I dissected every test I didn't do well on to understand what I was doing wrong and what I could do better. Developed my own study technique that made me do very well. I love how learning from your hobby (eSports) can be applied to school as well. Love your videos btw And for the record. I told you I was not happy with the FK2. But I trusted your advice and had 2 weeks with it. Now I love it, and I aim better. Just as you said! Appreciate your help

From my own gaming experience (6-7 years), the MOST important thing to win, is having fun lol. I dont remember where, but, on an interview with some old school cs 1.6 player he said this as well. If you want to win, and you are trying hard, but you are mad and anxious, you will have less focus, you will make more mistakes, even if you win, it will not be so pleasant, because you where on a state of anger. If you are having fun, if you are fresh and focused, you'll have way more chances, and theres another good thing, if you are losing, but you are fresh, it will not be so depressing, and you'll get better faster. Even players from popular sports have said this, or similar things, even when you are on a high level competition, the point is to compete yeah, but on something that you enjoy doing.

Failing at something you work really hard for (Quake in my case) is confirming my self belief that I am incompetent, pathetic and dumb. I keep making the same mistakes. I get upset from not seeing my training and effort matter and it really messes with my self image and mentality outside the game.
@RocketJumpNinja
@RocketJumpNinja 4 жыл бұрын
Work on your "power base" then. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. I've had times where I've felt worthless after losing in Quake ... and that's usually when I realize it's not even about Quake, it's about the fact I haven't actually achieved anything and I need to work harder. I've written 3 novels, made over 30 songs, over 500 videos on this channel alone and a whole heap of other stuff. It's never enough. But that's ok. It's just how we're driven to succeed. As long as you're using the energy productively, it doesn't matter if you achieve everything or nothing. Just keep the journey alive. Keep finding new things to work on. Keep exploring. Keep learning. We can't always control results, but we can control how we react.

@@RocketJumpNinja That's.. an amazing answer :) thank you so much. I'll get through this mental madness too and it will help me in the next mountain I will climb. Maybe I won't compete in Diabotical prize money tournaments, maybe I will. Who knows? But I'll be damned if I give up. When I look back I want to say I gave it all I had and I guess that's really what matters.

I know this video is from 3 years ago but i need to write something to it. I try my best to get this mindset but i cant get away from tilting and thinking that i suck. That i am bad , i train so much but i dont have the feeling that i get better. I rage so much and i dont know how to overcome it. If i have shaky aim i get so tilted. I train so hard everyday to get good but it dont go as planned. I dont know what to do more
@RocketJumpNinja
@RocketJumpNinja 5 жыл бұрын
Here's the thing, the more you play, the more you improve. It just happens. Your brain is constantly learning. It's not even something you have to think about most of the time, unless you hit a skill ceiling. So what you really should be focusing on is training your brain. As in, you have to rewrite your emotions and thoughts to the point you don't tilt or get upset at games. There is a way of doing it, I'll be doing a heap of videos talking about it on my second channel kzbin.info Stay tuned!

(nothing related to this vídeo) ok, after days of debating it on my head, im going for the Razer blackwidow one. these are the facts: actually, I can get razers on another country because my cousin works there, and I dont find corsair things, only a red strafe. and I just watched your k95 unboxing, then you pressed the switch slowly and sounds like my membrane keyboard. that's the overkill fact. I play games without music, because I like listening my clicks and my switches, because I know how I must do it. And the plástic is more easy to clean than the aluminium. and tbh im too lazy :P. The strafe... I dont like the letters. the side led is sexy af, but the BW has macrokeys and RGB lights. I can get both at the same price. so, I tell it to you because I was harming you with asks about the k95 :P

After ordering it, I hear news on doggy mouse feet ;_;. Please, I hope my unit has no defects :(, if it has doggy mouse feet, I'll dish out more money for new mouse feet.

+Kmah smith doggy mouse feet? You mean dodgy? Both my Kone Pures have good mouse feet, so that might be reassuring.

Dodgy**(mind my ENGARISH). Some people have reported one feet being normal size and the other one sliced in half.

Rocket there is a new kid in town that diserves a review. Final mouse tournament pro :D Or are you going to wait for scream edition to review a final mouse?
@RocketJumpNinja
@RocketJumpNinja 8 жыл бұрын
+Vamp ire It's a tough call, because I don't know when the Scream One is going to come out. Still thinking it over. Can't just throw money around, and they won't send me one, so... in 3 weeks I'll have enough on Amazon gift cards to get both maybe.

Yeah, non the less I think that the "scream edition" will just be a re-color of the tournamet pro, but I might be wrong... Still I'm eager to change my deathadder chroma... :P

Vamp ire I heard they might be putting the 3360 sensor in the Scream Edition/One whatever it's called. That should be interesting if so. I can't seem to get the Tournament Edition here, but they'll ship the other. Weird.

+Vamp ire hahaha it's so weird joining a CS server, I'm not used to kids being on. Quake is an old man's game... in the sense that the only people who know of it are old men (and 2 women).

I know what you mean. Ive joined the cs community in 2003 after playing quake2, action quake2 since 1999 and quake3, urban terror tournaments, because cs 1.5 was more competitive in my country and I've never felt a part of the cs community... Now at 32, I pitty my Mother and All the names she has been called by Kids kakak :D

+Vamp ire haha I haven't heard them be abusive yet! Just one was broadcasting music over mic... I found that way more annoying than abuse, especially while I'm trying to learn a new game, and you know, actually hear what's going on.

Was really enjoying the video... until you said "they're just games; its not like they really matter anyway". People that think like that are the people that don't want to win in the first place. But, I know you do want to win... so why would you say that? Anyway great video!
@RocketJumpNinja
@RocketJumpNinja 6 жыл бұрын
Because you need to keep perspective in life. Winning in a video game generally won't get you food on the table. I try to win for the right reasons... to show my abilities and my work, but that means I'm always trying to put the focus on winning in life rather than the game. I challenge myself to grow for greater things later, not to get a victory on a map in Quake. Know what I mean?
