Building on the principles of playing raw, this is more about your physical health and what you should avoid if you want to actually get better, not just fake it.
It's important to solve your problems properly.
First acknowledge or find the problem
Research and understand it
Then solve it
Acknowledge, understand, solve.
That helped me stay focused when I had problems, hopefully it can help you do the same.
And by "properly"... I mean actually solve the problems, not just put a band aid over skin cancer and say "look, it's repaired now, back to destroying myself slowly!".
Good luck!

Literally was looking for some advice and gameplay only to realize what I've been doing. I'll be up front, I smoke to play my best. If I can't be the best while sober then why play? I've been playing quake since I was 11 and now I'm 21, ten years and only eight of those were sober and my best years. I'm gonna continue to work on my skills sober than high all the time. Thank you Zy.

Real talk... Dunno if you'll read this but you might have just opened my eyes a little. My sleep schedules been a wreck lately, and I've probably been having a bit too much caffeine. While a lot of times I feel good after I have coffee or anything heavily caffeinated, it can't be healthy and in the end I think it does kind of sap a lot of my energy, making me just perform worse at everything, games and just life in general. It doesn't make me a better person. I want to get good, not just at games (though I'd be lying if I didn't say that that was at least a part of it) but just at life in general. I'm only 19 yet I have so little energy and feel depressed a lot of the time. Yet I always try to sleep because I think I'll have more energy afterwards(only works out like that like 1/5th of the time), or if I have more caffeine I end up feeling nervous and jittery, which I know definitely isn't healthy. Not sure what I'm really trying to say, other than that at nothing else you've made me step back and take a good long look at my lifestyle, and I thank you very much for that.

I went through depression from 18 to 21... I think it's fairly normal, 19 is such a transitional age. Your brain is no longer satisfied with just existing like it was when you were a kid. Now all the rules you lived by suddenly don't make as much sense and you have to work hard to get new ones for adulthood. There's no easy answer... there are thousands of things you need to learn. And sometimes nothing is really wrong but you feel bad, so you start searching for problems to blame. It's an art to be able to know what's really wrong... and often the answer is simply "I haven't achieved enough today to feel good", which means you need to work harder each day to achieve something. I guess the best thing you can do is be open and try to take the best answers from everyone. See someone doing well? Find out why. See someone being healthy? Find out how. I'm not saying go up to random people... there's a whole internet full of this kind of information now, so just pay attention. I love this quote... Lex Luthor: Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it’s a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe. It's the mindset... find answers wherever you can, understand things for what they really are. Pay attention. And take the best of everything and make it part of you. Might sound selfish, but if everyone was trying to be their best (without hurting others), I think the world would be a better place. Just to quickly give you some things I've learned, specific to sleep: If I go to bed late and wake up late, I feel lethargic all day. If I go back to sleep after I wake up after about 6 hours sleep, I will feel worse than if I had just got up after the 6 hours. If I sleep before my usual schedule, I'll sleep 1 to 4 hours and not sleep properly that night, which ruins me for the next day. If I wake up too early, my brain won't work properly and I'll be tired all day but not lethargic. So at the moment I'm thinking the best is to get a sleep routine and wake up at a certain time each day, preferably closer to sunrise than noon. As I said though, I still haven't figured it out. The problem is I'll get busy with a project or just won't feel like sleeping some nights, and the cycle of bad sleep continues. Hope that helps somehow. Good luck!

Reminds me of how Day9 described FroZ(an old Starcraft pro) and how he purposely varied his practice/play routine. Playing with shoes off. Then playing with shoes on. Turning the air conditioner really high, then turning it low the next day. Playing with his desk and chair at different heights. Playing when he's hungry. Then trying to play when he's full. Morning/night/afternoon. Purposely forcing himself to play in constantly changing conditions so no matter what he'll be prepared for when it's going to matter.

"haven't mastered sleep" - so true, mate.. All these videos.. this is what Tetris taught me as a kid - always think with the next step. If you think about what to do with problems that you have right now - you are a bit too late. Think about next things, and when they come - you already prepared, so you just do them quickly and now have more time to prepare for next things. Just like Tetris - think with the next figure.

I have appreciated your mouse reviews a lot, they are super good and you have even improved them over time. Now I appreciate you even more! I'm very happy you spread the word of this part of daily life style to be healthy and doing things natural, which I do my self as well. So many people do cheap tricks to evade things in life, like when I always hear when people can't get started in the morning with out coffee. Then your doing something wrong that makes you so tired in the morning! fix that instead of adding an other thing that makes a problem over time.

I can say that this characterized me when I first started playing my main game, Team Fortress 2. That's what brought me to where I am now, but I recently have lost that energy and drive to improve since I've become one of the best in my field of play. This series has helped remind me of how I used to approach any new thing in life and how I used to develop my skillset with an unquenchable thirst for improvement. These kinds of videos are worth showing any person struggling to get motivated to do things in life. Excellent commentary and good gameplay as well, thanks for a quality video.

Yeah I talked about that on stream when it happened... gotta love instinctual reaction shots, the ones where even you say "whoa, that was crazy", especially because I knew I couldn't flick right to hit him (would've had to move my arm to do it), so I had to go left, which was a bigger flick distance.

bro.. its not like you wake up and start working until you go to bed non stop.. and we also know that you haven't reached as much subs to be busy like a pewdiepie so relax.. im sure just answering for 15-20 minutes every day, won't just do the people a favour, but also yourself by making people to like you even more and like / recommend your vids to more friends to gain you more subs which you obviously want.. so think about these aspects before ignoring any messages and blaming it on "too busy to answer boyz, working all day".

Great video, I simply kind of figured this out myself a while back. And now with some exercise and plenty of water and not so much sitting down I actually improved my focus. I don't lose temper more often either. I actually find competitive games like CS or DOTA FUN now and admit defeat when I deserved it instead of raging. This helped me get better in games and also in real life.

I remember winning a clanbase cup, in my division, at a game called warsow, that was a good moment! I played way better if I warmed up with a very high mouse sensitivity and then lower it to "very" low and start the match. I used to have friends that defended what you just said in this video... that made me cringe every single time... and we're talking a long time ago... really dig your stuff.

This video was recommended to me as soon as I took a break from smoking. Unsurprisingly like in the video, i played better high. It helps me get in the zone and literally kept my game face on. Lucky for me, all weed taught me was that all I need to do was have fun and try to immerse you self in the game. I don’t like the idea of using as a crutch, however it did help me overcome hurdles when I started to plateau. Side note: I play mostly overwatch and also I saw improvements in my rhythms games too. I also want to dispel the idea that weed directly makes you better. You just have more fun which in turn makes you a better player.

I cannot express enough to back up what you are saying, as this is the right way of thinking but needs reaching a higher state of wisdom. Unfortunately this is also a way life that most people avoid thinking in this manner. What ultimately blows my mind is that fact that even the most selfish person on earth, is usually unable to do the small sacrifice now for the greater good that will come later. In other words, wasn't selfish enough.

I really enjoy your videos. You have inspired me to practice practice practice and keep practicing and it is paying off. Quake is a game that takes work and time. The more work I put in the better I get which makes me want to play more and spend more time playing. Would really like to see a video in the future about switching weapons under pressure. I have the most trouble with that. I always over rotate my mouse wheel and get a weapon for the wrong situation. I recently switched it to the side buttons on the mouse and found that works easier but still a common problem when playing. Just thought that would make an interesting video and people don't seem to cover that issue as much.

If you do a channel with this kind of content I would be the fist one to subscribe to you! The video is very compact but still gives / gave me so much valueable information which I am going to use in the future. It is a good thing that you give examples like the - really simple - example with the clothes. Oh and by the way! I just found your channel a few days ago and I was not sure if I should subscribe to you because you mainly review mice. And I thought if I have chosen my mouse why should I keep watching your videos? Don't get me wrong but I guess you know what I mean (e.g. why should I go to the supermarket to ask somethign about toasters if I already have a good one?). But seriously this video and all the other "How to get good" - videos made me subscribe to you simply because there is always something new to learn! Especially if you bring across these important (life) topics in such a good way! (I never write any comments on YT so I just hope that you will see my comment and think about it :) )

I whole heartedly agree with your statements on how to get to the peak of your game. I can't help but wonder if I am somehow cheating or giving myself false states of focus with the medication I need to take. I have ADD and a hereditary form of depression that puts me into "fight or flight" mode at the drop of a hat due to my body not being able to use epinephrin efficiently. I can function for a time while the medication is still in my system, but I will get to a point where I am in "fight or flight" almost all the time and I become drained, moody, and apathetic to everything. My ADD medication makes me able to focus better. I know that these have helped me immensely over the passed few years, but I can't help but wonder if I have more of a mental block that is causing all these issues that I just havn't figured out yet. Whether you read this or not, as always thanks for the videos and reading some of my jumbled thoughts and musings.

Wise and accurated advice. Thanks!. BTW I noticed I play better having a bottle of water instead of soda or a sugar drink, I will never underestimate being hydrated. Question: In your opinion which is the main factor why we can aim better with a specific mouse than other?, saying we have 3 mices same, sensitivity (360º turn), similar weight, same grip style. Is for the size? or the sensor positioning? or form? Thanks :D

Hey Zy, I Feel that doom is double shotty loadout ruled. The best of the best always use this loadout in game. I dont want to use double shottys but it seems like its the best loadout. Do you think quake 5 will be nicer? What do you think about the double shottys in doom?

For me when I get seriously good, it's more of a whim that I can't really control, and it usually lasts a good 10 minutes before I go poof. I've pretty much settled on the physics and a consistant sensitivity ratio of 2000 DPI / 3 sens where a flick will give me 170 degrees of turning, but my tracking (precision) hasn't really improved. I've got the accuracy, but i just can't hit the target, if you know what I mean.

I have been trying to identify my problems and still cant find them. I play better when im drunk/high on snus or just max relaxed, but there are 100000 of things that can tilt me and i cant perform. At the same time i found +/- better sleep and sports helped me but at the same time each time i felt kinda exausted after sports and didnt feel right while playing. Even if i landed shots and stuff, i still felt like im not doing good. Idk, this is struggle for laste 3+ years since i have been playing cs:go more seriously and i hate it... :/Good vid tho, but its still struggle to find to find the problem.

interesting, I just have a problem with one statement at the end: "enjoy life later". this kind of thinking can be equally or even more dangerous to your health than the hardest kinds drugs. in times like these, everyone should learn how important it is to take neccessary downtimes and enjoy life every now and then, otherwise you will get burnt out and depressed pretty quickly, depending on what you're doing. being healthy is a good shield as you say, but it won't make you immortal.

I'd agree but within the context, it makes sense to work hard now to enjoy life later. If you don't have problems that are causing you discomfort (making it harder to enjoy life now) then there's probably no need to work hard on something. While you have a serious problem though? Work hard.

You should make one about playing when you have an illness that can affect your gaming skills. I was very good at CSGO and almost any game i had. Then my psychologist diagnosed me with Chronic depersonalisation. Since then (a year ago) I've been playing really bad. I understand everything, I play like I would play before the illness, but still I can't compete. It just doesn't work.

What is the best mouse that has a thin cable or one that feels like the cable isn't there? I always feel like my Rival 100 is being pulled on or doesn't want to go a certain direction very well because the cable feels stiff.

Great video dude. Stopped drugs years ago, stopped alcohol when I was too much into it & while I'm glad that I tried such things, I'm even more glad that I stopped. The more ressources you can naturally muster the more you enjoy life. & I never enjoyed life as much as nowadays & it keeps increasing! (I'm 38 BTW)

Can't agree more, I don't drink coffee, energy drinks or anything else... I always cringe when I go to work and see other people age 20 have about 1L of energy drinks a day. What are you going to do when you turn 30? I'm 24 I have sleep for 5 or so hours go to work for 12 hours and repeat the process. I look half a sleep until a certain time, but I am fully operational and don't feel the need for anything that would boost my energy. I like being natural as much as I can, listen to my own body, be my own self. Also what sensitivity are you using? Quite the travel it seems. Have you ever tried Sennheiser Game One? I just got them along with GSX 1000 seems like an interesting thing and the headphones are surprisingly good.

The reason I play better on acid is because it improves my reflexes and due to how fast it makes me think, it can sometimes feel like I'm playing in the future. It gives me the ability to analyse the things I'm doing wrong and it's as if I'm taking a step back to observe what my brain is doing in a flow state. That being said, I don't need acid to play good. I play good without it, however for the couple weeks following an acid trip where I played, I feel I've improved my consistency and my anger when playing has dropped dramatically. It used to be pretty bad

Yes your points are valid but I feel like people who say they play better under cafeine or drug or whatever reason you find is just placebo. You don't always play good when you feel like it etc. So I think it varies.
