Should I apply ED if I don't know if I can afford it? Like if I get accepted, I'll request financial aid and the rest ill just take out as a loan but if they don't give me financial aid then can I withdraw because I can't afford it? thanks.

no, it is binding so you are legally required to go if you get in. Brown does offer good financial aid though so look into that

No, ED is not legally binding but it looks really bad if u pull out of an ED agreement

use a financial aid calculator first! brown has one in their website :)

@@bobhave2031 you can back out of an ED acceptance if you can’t afford it, schools can understand that. but you should use a financial aid calculator beforehand because you don’t want to be accepted then realize you can’t afford to go

My teacher won't allow me to go to Honors English next year. Does this completely diminish my chances of getting in? (I am a sophomore)

No. The admission process is more complex than whether or not you took an honors class. Focus more on your activities and hobbies.

Daniel Heltberg I understand. My major is Biology and I have great grades in all of my science classes. I am also taking three AP science classes next year. So, does that mean colleges will be more likely to look over my regular English course?

@@lafayette2957 First of all, I don't really know much, I inserted my opinion where it was pretty invalid (as I am also a high school student). But I would recommend that you work up that grade. While science is the most important thing for a science major, writing and reading skills are invaluable, mostly, colleges want to see a good GPA. I think above 3.7 unweighted and above 4.2 weighted for a school like Brown. If you want really good chances then, of course, 4 unweighted, 4.5+ weighted, and a near perfect SAT/ACT. Brown no longer requires them for this year

tmb the 1 there is no replacement, so all of the other aspects hold more weight. Grades, essays, extracurriculars, interviews, portfolios, etc. are still used.

I look at the brown website it says nothing about Graded paper from a humanities or social studies class. Is this still a requirement for 2022?

It is not. I believe you are able to submit a research paper as supplementary material, but there is no requirement to submit a graded paper (at least this year).
