Met Olav at a DZ the other week.. just started chatting with him, asked him where he's from, what he does for work etc. general conversation, he was just like.. "I just travel and skydive, make some money with coaching here and there.." There's me, 50 jump wonder with no clue, all like "Ah that's cool!" - later on someone being coached by him told me dude was the 'father of freefly' and to Google him lol. Crazy modest, just a friendly guy chatting to whoever, no airs and graces whatsoever.

I have a racer made in 95 but can make it fff . Alot of people look down on racers but I have always liked them for comfort and simplicity. I've done alot of ff and freestyle jumps over the years and have had but a few problems. Always maintain and know your gear

Been getting my knees in the breeze since 1978!!! The best free flyers I have seen are the students. I enjoy teasing tandem students (sick, I know)...Like asking the jumpmaster if he had taken his seizure meds today? On the climb out. They play along...Never have I seen such wide eyes....I tell them about the joke. before the jump.

Friday freakout today was indeed a slammer during a vertical jump. Check your handles, check your pins/loops, jump reputable equipment.

Honestly what you are saying makes complete sense( honestly if I met someone who said they wanted to learn to free fly before completing aff I would be concerned and question if that person should be skydiving lol)

Other than a free fly velcro deployment pillow could someone please tell me what's different about a free fly rig versus a regular rig?
@mason06742 жыл бұрын
Please correct me if I'm wrong so I being from North America white boy I have to have the same nationality as me to put a team together.. since I'm German and Irish do I need to find other German and Irish people to skydive with I know I'm being stupid I just kind of confused on that
@Frickflyers2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm sorry I didn't really specify but its not to do with your nationality, it's to do with what nation your NAC is, you might be German but if your National Airsports Commission is USPA then you compete for that nation

why would anyone try to teach ff without tunnel These days. Except for trying to sell a LOOT of coached jumps :D
@Frickflyers3 жыл бұрын
yeahhhhh i kinda left wind tunnel out :p
@thewewguy8t883 жыл бұрын
Good point on the wind tunnel I have heard it really helps people out. And even with people who have a dozens of hours of tunnel time still have a lot of work to learn to free fly.

So which drop zones can you start out without AFF? Likely little to none. And you can free fly with any license, it works just fine. Finally, Give credit to the wind tunnel, most athletes are doing that now, probably you too.
@Frickflyers3 жыл бұрын
Hey! You can start free fall skydiving via a few distinct methods, namely SL, IAD, TD, AFF. Most drop zones will allow you to progress via the method of your choice, harness hold is just the best b today's standards. I mention that I'm not anyones dad, of course you can freefly with an A license, I just feel like it's not appropriate. Surprisingly there was a time before wind tunnels, believe it or not and people learned to freefly outside of the tube. I myself learned 99,9% on the sky as I have 10hr, most of them fooling around with friends on my belly and when I learned to sit on the tunnel I could already comfortably enter HD formations. They are 2 distinct sports that complement each other in some situations, depends on a lot of factors.

Also you don’t need any coaching to learn. Just go out and try
@TheCrusherDJ3 жыл бұрын
Ofc thats an option. In my experience a proper coaching will save you money in the long run. When you start off doing wrong and dont realise it, it will be more difficult to train off those mistakes later.
@iankestle3 жыл бұрын
You definitely don’t need an audible or b license in America lol

He is not talking about the US in general. He talks about the rules at his DZ (02:36 min) Please pay attention before going all "Red Ian" ;-)

That may be the case but honestly I feel like that should be a requirement overall. It just feels like common sense to me.
