I have been cutting my own hair now in August 2024 for exactly 6 (SIX!!!) years, after educating myself on your channel, by watching some "symmetric layered haircuts", over and over. I have lots of medium thick, wavy, heavy hair. So, whenever someone took their razor knife and started 'thinning out'😱, my hair start making 'horns', which stand in all directions. Un-manageable, afterwards. Most of these so-called hairdressers/hairstylists had no idea what I was talking about...(after moving from Europe to Canada), and believe me, I was several times in tears after coming home and seeing the whole disaster...still looking sometimes at these pictures in disbelief 😨. Since I started cutting my own hair after your amazing tutorial videos, I have received uncounted compliments - even from men. Never happened before my DIY haircuts. It takes me most of the time - for a full cut after 2-3 months - around 45 minutes. For a touch-up usually 20 minutes. A hand mirror clamped on my camera tripod, and the big bathroom mirror on the wall. Some clips, a hairdresser scissors, and a comb. I also take always pictures from all sides after it's done, the possibilities and lengths for a "symmetric , layered haircut" are endless. It's a nice catalogue to look at after so many years. I was advised to start cutting other people's hair... No, thank you😆 And ALWAYS, whenever I get the question: "your haircut is amazing, what's the name of the salon?", I tell them about "The Salon Guy" an YT, search for Symm. Layered Haircut, and make their hairdresser watch the videos 😂, or doing it themselves (only when they say they are patient. 😘🥰Thank you, Steven, for a) saving me A LOT if money during those 8 years, and b) for enabling me to give myself the haircut I want to look gorgeous. 😘🥰 Edit: mainly typos

Go to a salon. Try to go to a nicer one but if you can’t at least go to one and either way make it very clear with photos and the words “layers” etc. communicate and it should be fine

I just got a haircut new style on Friday. What a disaster. I had fine bangs holder length hair. I wanted a Faith Hill layered to my shoulder. The stylist that I have used for years used a blade and one side is 2 1/2 inches the other side about 4. The side with 2 1/2 has a huge difference between ween the top layers and longer length. You can feel the difference just grabbing the hair in both hands. After searching reviews I found a stylist yesterday who said I should never let anyone use a blade on my fine hair. She used recut my hair trying to layer it and said this is going to take about 4-6 month 2-3 cuts to get it correct. I do like the layered look and I feel once it is corrected I will be happy. I couldn’t even think of trusting my old stylist to correct it.

Cool channel! Cutting hair is an absolute art and I’ll gladly buy your products. I stopped going out to get my hair cut and now cut it myself. To be honest, the “salons” always screwed it up and I got tired of paying for it. I cut mine similar to what you are showing. Funny story, I got my hair cut before I got married and it was so bad, I had to part it on the other side.

For those considering the occupation, you can do extremely well if you are good. My cousin worked at a salon in Chicago on Oak and the owner retired at 40. They could do magic with hair.

I've been cutting my hair for 2 years now, haven't gone to a barber since June 1, 2022, day that a malicious human being, wrongly called "barber", condemned my hair to death. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but yeah. Probably not the best decision to cut my own hair, but I've had long for all this time (even before), since like 2021 I started growing my hair (because, for some reason, after the pandemic men started letting their hair grow in general) except for like 10 months that I had to cut it shorter because of school. I advice you to either learn to cut your own hair or go to like a professional salon. Some barbers just don't care what the do to you. Update that nobody cares: I went to a barber for the first time in 2 years a month ago, and right now I have the best hair I've ever had. I guess you just have to find the right one

My oldest daughter and I have both had a bad haircut in which the layering was very, very short on the top of the head. So the hair below looked very thin. Never again. We both have fine hair (and mine is very thin anyway.) I do like a bit of layering when my hair is very short, as it is now. I have followed some of your videos in order to do that. Thanks.

Sigh... I'm growing one like that now. I have a ton of hair that's baby fine. I cannot get a good hair cut recently, I don't know why. Last time I let the stylist know my hair does really well with layering just don't go to short on the crown. She wouldn't layer my hair. More or less 3 snips and she was done. Her reasoning... Layering is not best for fine sparse hair. Thick, curly or wavy gives a better result.

Hey Salon Guy. I'm looking for a salon, but i'm struggling to find haircuts with the likeness of this one in many stylists or barber's portfolio's. I usually find pictures of long hair and women's haircuts, and on the other end short, tapered hair. Not much in between. I had to stop getting haircuts because I was priced out of bad hair cuts. I had always worn my hair kinda short-kinda prep with a side part. I had to give up getting my hair cut because I used up my quota of expensive haircuts that made me scream bad words when I got home. After two $ increases since Covid within that year, I stopped going. I let it grow, longer than it had ever been, the first year. I still can't afford Zoomer haircuts, so now I'm into my second year without a hair cut. It's fun having long hair, and twirling it, and pulling it out of food in my mouth, trying out different rubber band thingies for a pony tail, pulling out wads of hair if I lightly comb it (forget the brush). I think it's cool until I look in a mirror and scream out bad words. I'm not a hippy, I'm not trying to look cool. I feel like an idiot. But I have to leave the house. I am so ashamed. Money is tight. I am screwed, but not in the fun way.
