If you are just starting as a makeup artist and don't know where to begin....THIS IS THE VIDEO FOR YOU!! It's SO overwhelming to think about how you are going to get enough clients to make this job into a successful career. Well I'm here to give you advice and also share how I built up my clients throughout the years. Things that have worked for me and things that haven't. Keep in mind that what works for one person may not work for another so don't give up if you're stuck! This business is not as easy as it may seem and A LOT more is involved than people realize. However, with any other job, you can be successful as long as you give it your all :)

I always enjoy watching your videos! You know, I purchased the online course with the Makeup Academy and I did not like it at all. The recorded videos were terrible. I heard the ambulance siren several times in the videos ,contradiction between the instructors and the person that reply’s back to the messages. At times you can’t see how they are applying the eye makeup because the instructors hand is covering the camera. The lady that I communicated with was very nice and offered to refund my money back. I have taken other amazing, amazing online coarse which also give you a certification but they are from other countries and are not accredited here in the States. I did not request a refund since I need a certificate from an accredited school to get the Pro discount. Love what you do and by the way you look amazing! Thank you 💐

definitely going to consider getting rid of my thumbtack and only running google ads. I have had some success on there but recently had issues with leads not responding back and I ended up paying for it anyway

Yes do it!! I also had a lot of people try to negotiate prices with me on there too. I don’t know if you’ve had the same thing. Google Ads has really helped though!

I used to do makeup for a social marketing rebranding company. For some reason they would tell customers I had a fee they would agree to for me “advertising” them on my page. So, none of the people would ever sign my release to use their photos. And then my medication gave me a disorder that makes me shake and my hands cramp and get stiff. So now, I am trying to get back into it. And even though a few of the clients used me for other projects, idk if I should post those photos since now my hands have the issues. I worry relearning how to do other peoples faces and shaking won’t be the same quality at first

Hey I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that! Try just doing makeup on friends and family and see how it goes. That way it’ll take some of the pressure off at first and see if you can still make a go of it :)

Hey Julie, My question for you is how did you handle doing everything by yourself in the beginning? Example: Doing a model call and having to worry about doing makeup, recording, and/or doing the photography work, as well? If I have a big turn out I am not sure Id have the available help to assist me.

Haha great question! I was pretty stressed trying to do it all and still am at times. I’ve always been a good multi-tasker though because I get bored if I’m not doing things all the time. Model calls are less stressful because you’re doing things on your own time. I allow 2 hours per app for those to be able to get the content I need. With weddings, it’s a little more stressful and you more so just have to get yourself into a routine as far as taking pics/videos. I still don’t have any assistant to help me haha call me crazy!
