That bit about picking up your phone when you’re at a hard point- 100% my experience. Once I opened my eyes and noticed this, the first step was to put my phone on “do not disturb” and put it behind me. Out of view. And when I try to reach for it, I stop and think “ok, what is it that’s causing me to want to escape doing THE thing?” Much more productive now. Surreal how even someone like Steven is dealing with the same thing

If all these content creators who have self help strategies were the only thing we needed to succeed, everyone on the internet who seeks self help knowledge would have been cured by now. Someone who’s livelihood and income is based off their KZbin channel will not be the one to tell you that staying in a library and reading and mastering every book in there serves no purpose and is equivalent to the person who never steps foot in that library if you never leave the library and apply that knowledge. This is the lesson I am learning in my own life and KZbin is the biggest double edged sword I’ve ever wielded in my life. I hope whoever reads this can apply this lesson in your own life as we exit the library together. It doesn’t mean we can’t come back, it just means we cannot stay in here forever. Peace and love

I enjoyed this video Chris, I found it funny about the story when you said when you lived at home you could only clean if your mom came and sat down there or talked to you, I found it funny because I was always the same way with my father, I would only be very productive when my dad was around though because he held me to very high standards with everything, so when he's around my brain just went to "get sh*t done" mode, and now I've been really been trying to build my own structure of productivity and this video helped a lot so thank you!!!

An alternative is "not being bothered by not doing the thing". I am a self-proclaimed failure. From my earliest years on earth six decades ago, I was well into the bottom half of any "thing" that invited a comparison to others. That would include any kind of test. And in one way or another, any goal, no matter how mundane, is a test, even if it is a test of oneself. So I gave up that stuff long ago. No striving for a promotion. No keeping up with the Joneses. None of it. Surrendering to the almost assured prospect of failure can be liberating. At that, I have been successful.

I think there is a limit to certain activities. Sometimes overworking causes mental breakdown , confusion and low mood. if you find yourself constantly doing different things which also affect your sleeping pattern sooner or later you will feel miserable. I had some experience which I have been so much goal oriented that when I reached my objective I didn't feel as I wanted to. I love the challenge but only when I know I would be capable to exploit all my human resources.

1. preparing to do this thing 2. Scheduling time to do the thing 3. Making a To-do list Those things are doing the thing, especially creating a to-do list (breaking the task down into smaller steps) because when you are doing that, you are becoming more aware of what you have to do and how much time it will take to do it, and those two facts will make doing the thing faster because with a list of steps, it will be faster and easier for you to get back to the task after a distraction or break, and understanding the duration of this task will help to block out time for it.
