Good vid but I get slightly triggered that a route change still isn't an option after 5 freaking years. Sort it out Zwift FFS

Great tip, I'm new to zwift and thought I just didn't no where to switch to another parcours during a ride, but mind boggling that zwift hasn't added a feature like that

In my pursuit of route and other badges I’ve been spending almost as much time in Zwift planning as I have been running or riding.
@JonathanCrain3 жыл бұрын
yeah, they don't make it easy haha. At least theyve added a route progress bar now, and they let you know which ones you've completed when you're choosing a route. I used to have my own spreadsheet to keep track!

Super useful, thanks!! Does this work for workouts as well? (New to Zwift, doing a beginner workout training plan while getting my route badges)

Great tip. curious, does it save each ride individually? When you click on Join Event, i assume it saves your first ride, or does it combine it and save them as 1? Thanks!!
@JonathanCrain2 жыл бұрын
Strava automatically saves them as separate rides when you jump event to event. I honestly can’t remember how Zwift treats it because I only ever look back at rides using strava, but I’m %90 sure Zwift does the same.

Have you ever experimented any errors like no badges after completing a route ? I tested 3km Dutch estate under meet up setting but I was not able to earn a badge after completing the route.
@JonathanCrain4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Most often that’s a result of the “lead in”. Check ZwiftInsider.com for details on each route. Many of them don’t begin at the start pens, so there’s extra distance tacked on to complete the badge. I want to say Dutch’s Estate has a pretty substantial lead in.

Have you ever considered there might be a good reason why Zwift exits after a ride completes? Initially, I thought it very strange the Zwift application would exit and make you relaunch a new session to start another ride. The only rational reason for this behavior/design is to work around an application that suffers from memory leaks; rely on the OS to release memory consumed by the application by forcing the application to restart. It is one of the oldest tricks in the book to work around an application with memory leaks bugs. I fail to see any advantage (from a timing and complexity stand point) from starting a new Zwift session to start a new ride over doing it within the same Zwift session by creating a Meetup group ride with a no-show invitee.
@JonathanCrain3 жыл бұрын
I’ve used this hack for 10-20 route badges and never had any issues. For the short badges I was knocking out 2/3 per ride and because I can set the meet up for the next one while I’m finishing up, and then quit the meetup on the line and still follow the route and get the badge, it saves several minutes of fiddling each time.

Wouldn't it be quicker to back out, select the new route, and jump right back in to avoid the 1.5 mins of waiting for the new "meetup" to start?
@JonathanCrain Жыл бұрын
Now, probably. When this video was made, ending a ride didn’t take you back to the Home Screen. It shut Zwift off. You’d have to reboot the whole program. Still if you’re concerned about logging your time pedaling, this is a way to eliminate down time while you swap.

Hi Jonathan, what’s the best way for me to get a single 200+ mile ride on Zwift ? Basically I need to ride a 205 mile ride with 5000 ft of elevation gain. But is there a way I can do it as a single ride instead of splitting it into multiple rides on Zwift/Strava. I can do The Pretzel route and then The Tempus Fugit route *13 times to hit my target, but not sure if there is a way for me to do that in a single ride? 🤔🤔
@JonathanCrain3 жыл бұрын
If you just choose the route normally and dont click any turns you will automatically do loops of that circuit. It doesn't cut you off when you finish 1. You could also set it up as a group ride and specify either of those courses and the distance. If you do it that way, make sure you choose whether or not you want to show other riders. If you want to change routes during and have it show up as 1 ride, the only way to do that would be manually choose the turns as you approach them, which would be annoying in real time im sure
@ashthekool73 жыл бұрын
Thank you for replying. So if I set it up as 2 meetup events, one for The Pretzel and the other a couple hours later for The Tempus Fugit, if I click to join the second meetup, I will lose all the miles of the previous meetup I thought, no? So, I am trying to see how best to do it as a single 200 mile ride 😒🤔
@JonathanCrain3 жыл бұрын
@@ashthekool7 define “lose” those miles? When you swap to the second meetup the first one will save as a completed ride and show up on your Zwift and strava as such and a “new ride” will begin immediately. So the counter will go back to 0. There’s no way to avoid that other than either staying on the same route for the whole ride, or manually choosing the turns to move from one route to the other.

in a workout, can i change route ? is there way to do it ?

Not mid workout no. You could create two custom workouts that chop your proposed workout in half and use this method in the middle

I was wondering this! My question is. Why do you have to do it before the route finishes. Why can’t you complete the first route and then start the meetup 1 minute later? No guess work. I don’t know any of this. I was just wondering. I am gonna try this trick today
@JonathanCrain4 жыл бұрын
Kyle Crouch you could do this, I was just trying to minimize time between badge runs. You can 100% set the second meetup after completing the first route though.

Jonathan Crain I will try it in 2-3 hours. I’m excited for this. I don’t know if I have any friends or anything on at that time. Can I invite anyone? (Whether they are online or not?)
@kidgiven4 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Crain it didn’t work. I waited till after I got the badge and then was gonna try to create an event for 1 minute out. However it only let me select a time slot for 8 minutes away. So, selected that slot and it did it for 38 minutes. I created the event but then accidentally selected “not going”, I then selected “going”. I started a new route that I could do in that 38 minutes. In the zwift companion app the even would tick down to start time, but it never did anything. I didn’t warp or get the option to “join” or anything. I was kinda bummed out. I hate stopping rides! They need to fix that!
@kidgiven4 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Crain I got the warp to work today. The only deal is I had to do it for 1/2 hour out. But the trick I don’t think works. It took me too the next route. I completed the entire event, but it didn’t give me the badge.
@BikesBlades3 жыл бұрын

@@JonathanCrain that makes sense. I kind of like closing out each smaller ride one at time, because it's frustrating to lose several routes' ride data if Zwift crashes.
