Back in the 80s and 90s there was a massive affinity between kids of Irish and Jamaican immigrants. I remember my dad an uncles (Irish) all listened to reggae and the pubs were full of Jamaicans on st Patrick’s day.

The black guys you saw in the video were also in the band and you're right, UK music had been heavily influenced by Jamaican culture.

It's a Neil Diamond song performed to a reggae beat. There was a big rise in popularity of reggae and ska in the UK in the 1980s centred mainly in the West Midlands (around Coventry and Birmingham). Other bands who had success include The Selector and The Specials.

@@thisisitreactions I posted on your other video I think, you may wanna try your next reaction " Pasadenas tribute (right on)" a UK group that got slept on years ago because the industry was loving Irish boy bands too much. Such a wasted talent. Let me see that reaction. Love your channel, sending best wishes from London UK.

This song has deep content, which indicates that love and heartbreak are like a poison that intoxicates you, and eats you inside and that only another "poison can cure you" this is the red red wine, which does not deceive me, it does not abandon me, it confuses my mind and lightens the pain of feeling a lack of love, and that is why wine is as valuable as a million dollars in my hands, wine does not abandon me, love does. Replace an obsessively loved object with another that generates dependency; in the end, both consume you if they end up being toxic. You can choose one evil over another, or both together, if you can...

UB40 effectively had two careers, one as a militant reggae band, the other a pop group. The first two albums, Signing Off and Present Arms are superb. I'd recommend tracks like One In Ten, Burden of Shame and Tyler, especially the latter as it is written about the miscarriage of justice involving Gary Tyler and written long before the days of the internet!

UB40 were huge over here especially in Birmingham where they came from and are still performing today but not with Ali. Ali Campbell is the lead singer and his brother also sings. Astro was so cool but unfortunately he passed a while ago. Check out One in Ten, it’s mind blowing that the lyrics are still relevant some 30-40 years later.

Hey fellas, I grew up listening to this song on the radio, but only on the AM not FM. loved this song all my life. But I haven't heard it in a while, thanks for the memories✌💗 If you're wanting some suggestions for reggae, I'd suggest a few artists 1) "Steel Pulse - Your House" this band is from Birmingham England and is a "roots reggae band" and I think they were formed in 1975. and I only chose the next artist as second because I wanted you to know about the band Steel Pulse. But Marley would have been my first choice because I'm a fan of his music. So, 2) Bob Marley - I Shot The Sheriff (Live at Music Hall, Boston /1978" or "Bob Marley & The Wailers - Could You Be Loved" and finally 3) "Peter Tosh - Reggaemylitis (2002) Remastered" Tosh was one of the core members of the band Bob Marley & The Wailers along with Bob Marley, and Bunny Wailer from (1963-1976) after which he went on to form another group called "Word, Sound and Power, and was nominated for a grammy. Really fun reaction guys thanks so much

Greetings from england . a lot of peaple even from england do not know ir realise that tge red red wine video is taken from a 35 minuite musical movie called labour of love and was also released as a album . if you watch labour of love the song makes more sense with the video cherry oh baby and please dont make ne cry were also part of that short film . there is also a extended version of ed red wine with toasting by fellow member rip astro. as for the video its self its poetic licence the wine is just a metafore for life longing the love that burns deep with in the video ots self is a masterpeice depicting how working class england looked in many citys m towns england was the gate way to reggae way back to the sixtys . a good reaction video thanks

They are not all white actually they all vary and are from quite a few countries. And yes some of the members are black. Some have passed away most recently Astro RIP! No one ever reviews Red Red Wine with the Toast (the Reggae "rap" at the end) by astro. Which is the complete song, the definitive version of this song! So much so that even Niel Diamond adds it to his version now! Something UB40 wrote! And Niel Diamond bought the song he did not write it. (From what I read UB40 stated). Love this song! Thank you!

I absolutely LOVE EVERY THING ABOUT NEIL DIAMOND and HIS MUSIC. NOT #UB40's! .. They 'nailed it' then 'killed it' and I don't mean that in 'a good way' either. Hearing #UB's version debut on the radio .. I gave the song a chance and listened to its entirety. That moment was the ONLY TIME I EVER listened to #UB's entire version of #Red Red Wine. Like nails on a chalk board .. Never again! All I could say was "WTF!?! Well that sucked! ... I hope to God .. Neil does not sing this version in his LIVE shows." Well .. everyone that had attended any one of his many concerts after 1983, knows that is exactly what Neil had done. Like I said before .. I love every thing about Neil and HIS music. Seen him 22 times in concert beginning in 1981 .. ending on 7/26/2017. Never missed a LIVE show .. but I would always go out for a smoke during this song. Sorry Neil ... P.S. You guys really have to react to Neil Diamond's LIVE version of #Red Red Wine now from his 'Hot August Night' album recorded in 1972 at the Greek Theater in L.A. UB40 had a whole career making faux reggae covers of more talented artists songs. Most of which were already once big hits. This one is an exception in that it wasn't a big hit for the original artist.

I think that's a massive oversimplification of their career. They had plenty of original singles before this cover version and LP of covers in 1983. Unfortunately, they did go down the covers route, but not with massive hit songs apart from the Elvis one,and Sonny & Cher hit.
