Also forgot to state that its ok if you don't get published in time for residency applications. The work can still be put on your application and talked about in your interviews! Have you used or will you use any of these tips to get involved in research?

Thank you again! Im current an incoming first year med student and interested in dermatology. Do you recommend getting involved with research your first year?
@TheRealSkinImInMD3 жыл бұрын
@@leowan9426 congrats on getting into Med school! Yes, starting in first year is a good head start. I do recommend giving yourself a few months to get acclimated to Med school before taking on research.

All of this. What I would like to add is that students should brush up on their WRITING skills!!! I teach a graduate level research elective course and have had several students have their scoping reviews rejected by publishers because of… POOR WRITING AND/OR GRAMMAR!!!! Good writing is going to be foundational to having your research published. Don’t neglect this skill.

Oh yes most DEFINITELY! Thank you for that important tip.

I just signed up for a case report/poster and I don't have any previous experience. Any tips on how to write a great case report? Any help is greatly appreciated!
@TheRealSkinImInMD3 жыл бұрын
Yep here are some tips: - Know the case very well - Do thorough background research on your topic so that you can write a strong paper - Read the author's guidelines for case reports in the journal you would like to submit to and then read some case reports seen in that journal to get a gist of how you want to structure your own case report. If a journal hasn't been decided on yet, just check out case reports on your topic of interest to get an understanding on how to layout/structure your paper - Ask for help whenever needed from whoever is supervising you on the paper (ie your PI, coauthors, etc) Hope that helps!

Should you participate in research during your gap year?
@TheRealSkinImInMD3 жыл бұрын
If you need research on your application, your gap year will be a great time to get research done. However if you have a strong overall application you won’t need to. I didn’t do research during my gap years because I was involved in two projects in undergrad . So it’s really just dependent on how you’re trying to enhance your application for Med school.

@@TheRealSkinImInMD okay. What if you get your med school acceptance in October, then would you recommend students to start working on research ?
