@@Bri-wi8kq great question, Italy is such a diverse country I've got different places I like that are well quite different from each other. For instance I love the coast from the Amalfi coast and Sorrento to Cinque Terre, there's some beautiful mountain areas in the north, for cities I probably most enjoy Milan and consider Bologna to be a pretty under rated city that I enjoy. Of course Rome is something special but over the last few years I found it has become too overrun by tourists for my liking. What about you?
@Bri-wi8kq

@@MichaelRosmer Love the north and the coasts. The Adriatic seems less touristy, less crowded and more affordable. Turin is more affordable than Genoa, safer, a good size- big enough for services and in a great location, easy drive to the coast, up to the mountains and lakes, and great for connections to the rest of Europe.

I just came across your KZbin Channel and am glad I did! This question may sound silly, but I need to ask it anyway. You mention that one way of getting the residency is by opening a business. If I were to purchase a property in Italy to run an Airbnb, would that still be considered as a business? You talked about the 10% taxation, but Airbnb hosts renting out spaces for short term periods (less than 30 days) do not need to register as a business. Yet, they are subject to 21% taxation every month. Taking into account, would opening an Airbnb still qualify as a "business", even though it is not a registered business?

2 years citizenship, but takes up to 3 years to process citizenship (inside the country). If you have a child together, then process time can be halved. 3 years outside of country, then start the process.

Just came across this video and find your knowledge helpful. My wife and I are considering moving to Italy for our retirement. She is working on her citizenship thru descent. I will work on mine thru passing the language test subsequent to her citizenship. I have a question that I have not found the answer to anywhere yet and hope you can provide an answer. If I move to Italy to permanently live, I know I have to pay my U.S. income taxes on my investment earnings. Do I have to pay additional taxes in Italy for those same earnings? Thanks in advance for your help. Now I'm off to look at more of your video library.

@emmanueljames2487

@@MichaelRosmer I believe the monetary union without a fiscal union is unsustainable because the economy of mediterranean countries was destroyed. Most young people are unemployed and pensions shrink. They need fiscal union for "European integration" (United States of Europe, European Federation). But I don't believe the countries who pay for that (Germany, Finland, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Netherlands, not UK anymore) will ever agree. At the same time, I think it is difficult to escape monetary union without capital controls because nobody will want to voluntarily exchange their euros for a currency that will inflate (lose value) faster. That's the reason they are creating this currency, to inflate and pay for deficits and megalomaniac, corrupt developmentalist, populist, mercantilist, stupid, government spending (monetize debt). I believe at some point there will be a huge wakening decentralized P2P bitcoin exchanges like Bisq, HodlHodl and LocalCrypto (that can't be banned) will be used to circumvent foreign exchange control and capital controls. But I'm no expert.

Thanks Mike for another helpful video and that great hack! I was under the impression that a 500k investment was needed for a company, and the 250k only applies for an innovative startup? Presumably they have a way to determine which business qualifies as an innovative startup? Any thoughts would be super helpful. Cheers.

There's a bit of confusion here based on two things: 1. There are of course many more visa options that I mentioned here for instance there is the Start-up Visa, which is different from an investor visa investing in a start-up. The start-up visa itself is fairly difficult to get but doesn't require this large investment. The standards for investment in a start-up are lower. 2. There was of course a decrease a few years ago that also creates confusion because they basically cut the required investments in half

@@OffshoreCitizen I liked your video and I'm calmer now. I'm an earlier bitcoiner (but I never had and altcoin or DeFi). I would also ask a video, when you have time to do it of course, about Central Bank Digital Currency (not in China with their state banks). Why would private banks allow CBDC if it kills them? How they will react? Why someone would have an account on a private bank if he can store his money directly in central bank? And the controls and centralization this would give to central bankers. I also wanted to wanted to do some digital nomad work To supplement my income and because there are a few projects that I never have time to do here that I would like to work on. I wouldn't be taking a job away from an Italian in either case. Would I not be able to use the retirement Visa and do that? Informative video but I advise any viewers to have a healthy appreciation for the bureaucratic aspect. For example, after 10 years of residency, you can apply for citizenship, which takes up to four years to receive, and you must also consider how the ten years are calculated and demonstrated.
