7:45 A quick note here. While a controller can never give you the same amount of information as a decent sim wheel and pedal setup, the Xbox One controller and Series X/S controller actually have separate vibration motors for both the LT and RT triggers, which in some games (Including FH5) have been programmed to vibrate at different rates depending on how much the tires are slipping. This means that you actually have pretty good control when it comes to throttle and braking, making it pretty easy to modulate throttle as needed and use threshold braking technique. Especially when it's implemented as well as it is in both this game, and FH3/4. However, the Xbox 360 controller, like the one you show in the video, did not have these motors. This of course means that the experience will be a lot more frustrating if you still haven't upgraded to a better controller. Loved the tips in the video tho! I had no idea that the game set everything too stiff by default and I was definitely wondering why all my cars were sliding so much. ;)

For the controller "debate", bear in mind that you're showing a Xbox 360 controller, which lacks one of the most powerful haptic tool the Forza series offer since the first Xbox one game, and that is trigger vibration. The trigger vibrate to let you feel whenever you're losing traction whether on the throttle (leading to wheel spin) or on the brake (leading to blocking wheels). And in fact, it offers that feedback a lot more accurately than what a wheel can give you, in my opinion. And if we're talking about difficulty and/or performance without taking realism into account, I think the controller is the optimal device here.
@kamilowski2723 жыл бұрын
i would say steering wheels are still better since they give much more precision at turning. personally i find it very hard to get a corner perfectly with a controller.
@block_head_steve2403 жыл бұрын
I would say the force feedback can represent that better, because it's easier to react to a to wheel spinning easier than a vibrating controller.
@brawlikbroly42843 жыл бұрын
That's all settings. The controller will never be able to give me such immense detail of every lil change the way a wheel can. It's massively more difficult because of this increase in detail of information and amount. Add the fact that if you drive real cars your brain has to relearn what the information being received means cause you have no movement picked up by suspension and your body, instead your wheel tells you those things.

Finally going to tune my own car instead of searching through 50 tunes to find the only one that kept the RWD... I wish the assists could be turned on/off per car or even per car-tune, but it appears the settings are only global.

I've been watching your channel for long enough to know that you have considerable knowledge and skill with sim driving. Thanks for the entertainment :) Nonetheless I think you are getting a couple things wrong in regards to tuning. I just popped into forza to double check this in fact. First of all, solving the sort of transient lack of grip you demonstrate in the video would require changing your damper bias, that's half of what dampers are for. For example if you increase front bump damping and decrease it at the rear, you would find you had more immediate grip on turn in. Secondly, while softer springs decrease steering response, they actually increase and speed up the response of the suspension. If you want a car with more stability, which seems to be the purpose of the video, you would want stiffer springs, and bump damping, and rollbars, up to the point where you start lifting the inside tire which is obviously bad. I have a few thousand hours of tuning experience in various sim and simcade titles, so I promise I'm not just talking out my ass.
@AnthonyOlivo423 жыл бұрын
FH5 has most of those things way too stiff by default, unlike other Sims or even FH4. So softening the car actually improves the drivability of most cars in this game.
@MrBluePoochyena3 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyOlivo42 I make the suspension even harder than they were on default it becomes way more drivable, then i just fine tune to change the car to suit my driving style
@josephhodsall83713 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyOlivo42 I haven't played the new Horizon, so I will take everyones word for it. But if sedans and coupes are so stiff they are losing contact with the road at low speeds, then that game has SERIOUS physics problems. Also, as I mentioned, tuning anything besides damper bias to fix a problem with transient grip is a waste of time. All this talk about stiffer or softer suspension is not really related.
@AnthonyOlivo423 жыл бұрын
@@josephhodsall8371 You should definitely try it out and you'll see how stiff the cars are, spring rates are more than double what they should be, and anti roll bars are way too stiff. HOWEVER, this easily fixable by putting the ARB's at the minimum and then tune the dampers/spring rates until you're satisfied with it. I've been able to find comfortable and fast setups with some effort.
@josephhodsall83713 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyOlivo42 To be honest this conversation has destroyed my desire to play the new game at all. At least until they notice this issue and make a patch. I'm gonna keep playing Horizon 4 where the physics are fine. Anyways thanks for chatting with me :)

I was obsessed with learning about how to tune and choose the right upgrades in both Motorsport and Horizon series, and was kind of decent with the controller, but I still haven't mastered my G27 enough in Forza games. I'm a bit sad that in this game it's a bit harder to get handling points, exhaust and weight reduction upgrade doesn't always increase it.

FBB is better than it was in FH3 ? The first time i played FH with a Wheel, it felt really numb, the car would slide too easily and FBB was more of a gimmick than proper information about tires grip. I'm considering buying the new FH.

@R3dRicky3 жыл бұрын
You missed the fact that you can change tire compound, with, and track with as well to increase grip. Also the fact that the "default" settings of the suspension is the race suspension which is generalized for all the cars and of course needs tuning. Not only that stock suspension can be fine on a lot of cars. The R32 Skyline has 4 wheel steering, which it loses when upgrading suspension. I'd like to add to the controller debate that in Forza Horizon most of the top leaderboard people use a controller, not a steering wheel. As you said yourself your setups to make cars feel better on a wheel, but make the cars slower. Controller drivers can manage these undriveable machines with crazy setups a lot more than you can imagine. Not to say it is impossible with a wheel. But of course personal preference exists.

been playing forza 5 . using emuwheel on a TGT . the game feels pretty real , but the physics are not completely realistic. the open world and jungle races are pretty unique if you want to simulate street racing (also works in AC i know) but to beat a controller player in forza it's much much much more difficult than beating a controller player in gran turismo . not saying forza is more arcade but Forza is perfected for controller compared to gran turismo .

Yes, car setup changes can make cars more predictable and easier to drive as said in the video. But some cases like tire pressures and diff setup depends on the drivetrain. Haven't played fh5 yet, do awd have front/center/rear diff setup?
@martinantelo70863 жыл бұрын
No point using those on AWD, you gotta drive like an animal to lose them on FH5 and they're already OP af since the game really doesn't have any inertia and a 2500kg Taycan corners the same as a Lotus.
@Neawoulf3 жыл бұрын
Just try it. If you don't like it you can always return to your previous settings. I tested this on several cars (RWD, FWD, AWD) and most of them feel a lot more predictable with these setup changes.
