Fabulous video. All the things we did in the 1940' 50's. Worked for childhood infections. We put Friars Balsam in the bowl to inhale. Carefully with the boiling water as children. Before clean air acts we had fog, smog and unexpectedly walking through it because traffic couldn't see a thing. Felt the benefit of inhalation. Never had any chest infections that the inhalation didn't clear.

I find using saline solution in a nebuliser a convenient and effective way to get rid of phlegm ; it is also good at loosening mucous in the upper respiratory tract when suffering from a chest infection. Same applies with inhalation through the nose - much easier than sniffing salt water.

Years ago I had some sort of allergic reaction (?) while staying at a youth hostel. It was very late one evening during Easter weekend. I was told at the front desk that all pharmacies were closed. I was miserable. My nose was both running and stuffed and running. My eyes were red, running, and itchy. My throat was raw. I mentioned gargling, but having no salt. I was directed to the "free shelf" in the kitchen. I boiled water, added salt, and gargled with water just shy of burning. It was an Easter miracle. Everything cleared up almost immediately.

how to know if the snot comes from the nose and end up in the soft palate or if it comes from the throat getting up and glue the throat??? I have not slept for three years now. I get choked up 100% and loose all oxygen in the body, and wake up with severe pain in the heart and cramp in the lower left arm and totally dizzy in the head from no oxygen and the area from the soft palate and back in the throat between throat and tongue is full of snot clogged up like a spider web of small snot balls and mucus.. all this started after severe corona where I was hospitalised... now I almost die every other night and ambulance have come and gone and say that this is very complex for them to handle.. the hospital only look at the heart and totally ignore what I am telling them ! I am not sure who to turn to. I am also asthmatic and allergic for pollen and mitt etc. I am not sure why I have this snot or mucus and not sure if it comes down from the nose into the soft palate or from the lungs and up.. I think it is from the soft palate where the nose hole in your upper throat send down snot backwards.. but who to ask? the doctors I met gaslight me and treat me with strong narcissistic abuse. while the ambulance staff says is clear you been lying without oxygen and choked up for a long time and that this is very dangerous and just a time question until a night you never wake up and clear your throat in time and die.
