Edit: After 3 months, the coating is gone, needs to be applied again.
The oleophobic coating on a touch screen wears off in time and suddenly you find yourself trying to clean oily fingerprints from your phone, tablet or any other touch screen. May 24 (after almost 3 months): oleophobic is warn completely. I'll be applying a new layer this pm. Previous update: The screen is in good condition the coating is still on there, but it is not like the original coating at all. So nothing has changed since I released this video. But couple of days ago I got curious and applied the coating two more times, this time I applied heat to see if it makes any difference, but no the result is the same. It is so much better than before, but it is not like the original coating.

Today, it feels like the coating is warn off, I'm seeing fingerprints, but the screen is still slippery and the water droplets slide of w/o leaving any marks. But keep in mind that I still put hand sanitizer in my hand obsessively at least 5 times a day.

It works but doesn’t last forever. I found applying it with a plastic baggy (10 -15 drops) works best. You don’t want to apply it with a cloth because it will absorb in the cloth . Let it sit overnight, then buff with cloth provided. Repeat the next couple nights. It even got rid of minor scratches!

That’s why you use a high quality tempered glass, that way even if the oleophobic coating of the tempered glass fades you can just apply a new one.

I do agree, the cost of using tempered glass vs bare screen is way too important. It’s like considering 10 dollars tempered glass vs. 500 dollars of screen replacement. The risk of scratching, removing oleophobic, even breaking the screen is not a blatant choice as applying screen protector even if you don’t like its edge or the bulky feeling.

@@oo--7714 it's not. You can reapply it as much as you want and if you see any bubbles- just use a simple tape to touch the area and remove the thing causing it. I had the same opinion before trying it out. It works like a charm and you can reapply the screen protector as many times as you want.

For the IPads can you place a large piece of tape to cover half the screen and apply the solution to the other half to test and see if the product actually makes a difference once you test both sides without the tape?

Translation of directions on the box: The entire bottle of the product is one application. 1. Using the provided microfiber cloth, clean the screen of the device throughly. 2. Apply 10-15 drops of the product onto the screen, with the drops spread apart. (Immediately use the wrap that came with the microfiber cloth to spread the product quickly as it will dry fast.) 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 about 2-3 times. 4. Allow the phone to sit for 8-12 hours. Do not touch the phone or use it in the mean time. 5. Repeat steps 1-4 across a few days or until the product is entirely used up. This will provide the maximum effect for the work you’ve done.

I start cleaning w/ alcohol once I’ve come to terms w/ the fact my oleophobic coating has ghosted me & my screen is a smudge factory. Now to be fair, I suffer from having clammy hands (not all the time but seemingly often) which I hate & does no favors for my screen & prob why my coating doesn’t last long as I always keep a cleaning rag/cloth clipped to my iPad & constantly wiping it. It’s not to long until I start adding alcohol. I’ve experimented w/ a couple DIY methods, (listed below if curious) seeing if any helped resistance to oils, smears, & smudges w/ marginal results. I’ve not found anything that works for very long, but again this might be because of my constant wiping. The products do at least make cleaning a lot easier & quicker for a period of time. The application is also much less time consuming than the one in this video. *Methods* - I treat my screen like a cars paint finish & just clean it well then apply a coating of car wax. - My old iPad I tried using a polishing compound by itself just to see what the results were like. (Yes, I’m aware any coating possibly left would have certainly been removed) -No, it didn’t work at all, but I did add a coat of wax again. - I now mostly use an application every so often of RainX which seems to work ok. Again, mostly just makes cleaning easier more than resistant. For me, I call it at least a half W…a V?

Disincfecting wipes, or any products with alcohol, will degrade the coating. If you want to disinfect your screen without degrading the coating, use UV light, which is used in UV disinfecting products (e.g. PhoneSoap brand)

Here I am thinking to myself “my iPhones have always gotten covered in fingerprints…” Then I suddenly realized that’s probably because I put a glass screen protector, and a probably fairly low quality glass screen protector at that, on my phones almost immediately. I’d be curious to see how this product would work on glass screen protector. And, assuming I don’t apply it to the screen protector that’s currently on my phone (that really needs replaced anyway) my phone wouldn’t be out of commission for 5 days while it’s being applied because I could apply it to the screen protector first, before putting the screen protector on my phone

I laugh everytime someone mentioned and argues that they never use screen protector because they never throw around their phone or scratch it like bruh are you even aware that there's this thing called oleophobic coating. No matter how careful you are with your phone as long as your finger is touching the screen the coating will get worn off and smudged easily you're effectively damaging your phone by not using any screen protector.

@@CatWachristmashat I have waited more than a day, applied it multiple times, tried different displays tried thin coating, thick coatings, leaving the streaks on to soak in, buffing them off. All if it only lasted 2 days at best. I was so happy I found this stuff only to be bitterly disappointed.

How to AVOID loosing your oleophobic coating Step 1: Buy a screen protector. Step 2: stop whining about oily screen protectors and just wash your hand. Step 3: If you're unable to do step 2 then perform step 4. Step 4: buy yourself an oleophobic screen protector or buy a normal screen protector and treat it yourself with oleophobic coating.

I use a 99.9% pure sapphire screen protector. Since its exponentially smoother then tempered glass, this isn't an issue. I am surprised you didn't do the same. It also feels nicer to touch since its always cold. Google Shellrus. Do you rember GT Advanced? How they were going to make the new displays for apple? guess who bought (a portion) them once they filed ch 11.
