I'm so glad you recorded this episode! As a person who always struggled with thinning, brittle hair, I went down the rabbit hole of hair care. My journey has begun exactly 2 years ago when in Poland (when I'm from) "włosing" ("hairing") trend grew big. It's all about the right techniques of taking care of one's hair and learning how to read product ingredients. With a very few changes to my normal routine my hair started to grow and stay on my scalp. If I had to pick only one thing that was a game changer, it's massaging my scalp for a minute when I wash my head. Not hair, just the scalp. The foam will drip down your hair washing it, no need to "laundry" your hair. I have not been consistent with enzymatic peelings on my scalp which usually helps with hair growth. I have not been consistent with with applying the proper scalp product either because the good stuff is easily available in Poland and I can bring back only that much to the US in my luggage. And I do have this lovely red LED helmet but my husband uses it more regularly than me. Regardless of this, the very fact I massage my scalp has transformed my hair! Also, I don't use a towel to dry my hair. Use a cotton t-shirt to minimize the damage. Use a hairbrush (wet paddle brush) to distribute your conditioner. Use a silk pillow and silk hairbands. For curls, I recommend silk curlers. That's all you need to really improve the look of your hair once you choose the right products that suit you. To sum it up, HOW you apply is as important as WHAT you apply.

Curious to know about your age and how often you massage your scalp?
@sophiadc2 ай бұрын
@thatmagicalbeing 37. I wash my hair (and massage my scalp) usually every day in the morning. 2-3 times a week I also massage in some scalp cosmetics but I'm not very consistent with this. I had high TSH, hypoglycemia, tetany, and high-stress levels for a long time but around COVID lockdowns I started to sleep longer (as in starting working remotely) which improved my overall health so it's also a factor. But I (and my hairdresser!) noticed a difference after I implemented the changes I wrote about. I hope thet helps!
@thatmagicalbeing2 ай бұрын
@@sophiadc Thank you for sharing! Brushing hair (the scalp) helps to stimulate the scalp so massaging it definitely works the same. I don’t brush, wash and putting serum on my hair everyday, I try to but very so often miss a day or so in between. Seeing your experience encourages me there is still hope to grow back some of the losing hair. My friends and I are starting to notice our hair loss in our 30s, and constantly working on the issue. It’s definitely something what age do to us, so we could only do what we could to slow down the process.

I'm almost 47 and perimenopausal and prone to hair shedding thanks to hypothyroidism. I don't have thick hair to begin with so I'm always nervous about losing too much hair. I noticed that my hair seemed a little thinner and my hairline seemed to have gotten a little further back. Despite this, my hair still grows quickly and doesn't have breakage, so at least I don't have to deal with those issues. I started taking Verisol collagen (5 gms of the powder) for my skin and joints three months ago, not really expecting anything for my hair, and, after about 8 weeks, I started to notice that my hair part looked narrower and my hair looked thicker at the roots. The side of my hairline where it had thinned more looks like it's filled in a little, which is exciting. My overall hair quality looks really good lately- just extra shiny and healthy looking. So, that might be worth trying if you have midlife hair thinning.

If you’re still testing out products to help with hair thinning/hair loss, the Pura d’Or shampoos & their serum specifically targeting hair thinning concerns helped me reduce a great deal the amount of hair I was shedding every day. The original gold label that has 17 DHT blockers is the one I would recommend for those with advanced hair loss and/or coarse hair. Otherwise, for those like me who are in the beginning stages of hair thinning/hair loss and/or have medium to fine hair, I would go with the blue label that still has like 15 DHT blockers but is not so heavy on the hair. As for the rest, well, nutrition wise, testing your vitamin D, iron, zinc, folate & B12 levels to see if you need to specifically supplement with something is not a bad idea. If you’re colouring your hair, a good hair mask for the first 2 washes following your hair appointment will help strengthen your hair & limit the loss of density due to cumulative breakage because colouring is a drying process for your hair. And finally, a good leave in conditioner & a good bonding oil for your ends after a hair wash helps to strengthen your hair health on a regular basis.

This! Also- Routine Wellness shampoo and conditioner are some other good ones. Agree about the vitamins- makes a huge difference. Also, maybe using products best for your hair type. Thank you for another great video!!!! ❤I saw a video 8 months ago and left a long comment. I was "new" to this whole hairloss topic and I have to say, not much has changed and I'll probably now start oral Minoxidil, even though I really didn't want to initially. The last hair clinic I went to said they'd put me on Minoxidil and something else and 25 sessions of laser therapy. That was were the selling part started again (if you buy now, you safe 900€ and only pay 2000€ but you have to sign until tomorrow!) and I lost all my trust. I read they gave patients free upgrades or extras in return for 5* reviews written in front of them and I think, if they really helped people, they wouldn't need to do that. It's probably the Minoxidil that does the trick and not the expensive laser sessions. I'm now thinking of rather buying the iRestore laser helmet device instead and would love to know what you think about it, as it is really expensive. If you or anyone else here has experience, please share 🙏

I have stick straight hair which is a mixed blessing, but I cannot use conditioner, it weights my hair down and makes me look as though my hair is thin which is not the case, I have lots of hair. In desperation I tried what my grandmother used to rinse my hair when I was a very small child. Five parts water to one part cider vinegar pour through your hair after washing and messaged into your scalp and then thoroughly rinse. It detangles your hair and does not weigh it down, it doesn't damage your color, and leaves hair soft and shiny. Works for me!

I went thru that and then had the same issue with the ‘moisture’ products and am having some luck with just using ‘volumizing’ products. Best wishes!

Early this year I was losing a ton of hair. After a blood test the doctor decided to give me B12 and Vitamin D supplements. A month after starting my hair loss almost disappeared and it was like that for another 4 months. Around a month after the treatment was over I starting losing a lot of hair and it's still pretty bad. I've used minoxidil years ago and it's really good. I might to back on it, despite hating how sticky my hair gets.

I didn’t know you can apply the k18 mask directly onto the scalp?? It says it is for repairing damaged hair but nothing about applying on the scalp to increase blood circulation…. It just says to apply from ends to roots! I’m usually very careful of what I put on my scalp Also COLORWOW is a heat protectant!

Sebitar with salicylic acid has been a godsend for me. For years my hair had been falling out in handfuls, every time I washed my hair my shower wall was plastered with big clumps. My scalp was always itchy except for the day I washed it, second day my scalp would start developing like a tacky substance and the itching would begin. After years and years of trying various things (and doctors being disinterested) I tried sebitar and it provided immense relief even the first time I used it. It's a shampoo and conditioner with not just pine tar but also salicylic acid. it has completely stopped the itch and the hair loss, and my hair is thickening back up. For anyone who might want to try it you can buy it from pharmacies over the counter in Australia but hopefully it's available in other countries too.

Thank you so much for this! I'm going to try the Nutrafol. My hair is thick & I've always had a rather strange hairline, but this past year, to me, it looks like it's thinning. My husband, my sister & my daughter think I'm crazy but I see it! I'll be 48 on Halloween & I never thought my hairline would thin. I have zero members of my family with baldness. In fact, my 75 year old Dad has a head of hair that you wouldn't believe! Perhaps it is just me, but I know my hair & I can see it. It really is devastating & somewhat depressing to see my hairline move back & my forehead get bigger. Thanks for the recommendations!

Dr Idriss have you tried natural solutions like making your own rosemary rinse with water or rosemary oil with your carrier oil of choice? I know people who swear by this but I haven't tried it myself. Apparently rosemary helps to stimulate circulation in the area and can lead to more hair growth. I'm not a very DIY person myself so I have been looking for products on the market that contain rosemary but I haven't seen many. Something to explore! Also hope your family and loved ones are safe and well. Your hair is beautiful BTW! If you prefer it being straight rather than naturally wavy you could also try a keratin treatment, or another one I can't remember the name of that is newer and healthier for the hair. You would only need to do it once every 6 months or so and it keeps your hair straight and shiny (so you can eliminate heat treatments). My sister and a good friend get keratin treatments for their curly hair and they swear by it!

Can you talk about minoxidil causing accelerated ageing? i have heard so many people talk about how it has permanently and significantly aged their face even after only using it for a couple of months. - i get it over 10 years because that is probably just regular ageing but if someone notices a serious difference in ageing to their face after using it for 3 months? that's scary (it does seem like for most people it doesn't resolve after discontinueing use)

I’ve had chronic Telogen effluvium for years. I started oral minoxidil January 2023 I lost a lot of hair for 8 weeks then it slowed down. My hair has continued to shed. But I’ve grown new hair so I know I won’t go bald. I have been short of breath for a few years and just been told I have enlarged heart. I’m dreading them telling me to stop the tablet. My hair has grown in, it will never be as thick as it was 20 years ago. It’s not hair loss from PCOS I saw a Dermatologist a month ago it’s chronic TE the hair sample showed. Yes I have hair arms, hair and face, which I shave my face since I use Tretinoin so can’t wax etc.

I really look up to you and as Lebanese girl from Australia, I feel like I have someone I can relate to. I have been on the fence and so hesitant about taking oral minoxidil for years and think I may give it a go as my dermatologist’s has persistently recommended this. Can I please ask what dose you’re on? And do you take it 4 consecutive nights or do take it every second day? Your response would be so very much appreciated. Kind regards, M (I also had a severe reaction to topical minoxidil and had to stop using it)

Before I got prescribed minoxidil, I had been using an iRestore helmet since November (black friday sale) and it's been amazing, and has worked really well. The bad news -i used irestore helmet for 18 months and it did absolutely nothing The sorta good news - when I told the company I wanted to return it after 12 months they told me to keep it another 6 months and I could return it at that time if still no results So I used it consistently, every other day for 18 months, and in that entire time I only missed four nights not using the helmet. My hairdresser actually thinks my hair loss got worse. From what I understand the hair loss worsening was not from the Irestore. It was just whatever my body is doing losing hair and Irestore could not help it. I am bummed, though that I used that thing so consistently and I got nothing out of it except a big waste of time. And I restore does not give you all of your money back. I paid slightly more than $900 for it and got $700 refund. So I think the influencers who say you can get all your money back and there’s no risk that’s not really true because you’re not gonna get all your money back but for me it was $200 to try it but in the end it was a total fail for me

Hey Dr. Idriss, I had covid 3 years ago and my hair fell out a lot all of a sudden, my luck was that I had very very thick hair before so even though a good part of it fell out, afterwards I had normal thickness hair (before covid I always had an undercut to be manageable, my hair was that thick). The problem is that after about 6 months I suddenly started to grow a lot of new hairs and so I had hair of 2 completely different lengths. I barely managed to grow it out so I have only one lenght but a few month later once again my hair started to grow a whole new set of hair and once again I had 2 lengths. Now I'm on the third "wave" of growth and it looks like I have a halo around my head, in direct light it looks like I have a motorcycle helmet because of the thousands of strands that are only 1-2 inches. I'm desperate to start over, it's so frustrating 🫤 In between periods when I'm growing a lot of strands my hair falls out normally, it doesn't feel like more than usual and the density of my hair at the mids and ends doesn't seem to change either. Do you have any advice for what to do with these new strands? Or if there's anything I can do to make these new hair growths constant, not coming in waves every few months? I think my hair is simply going back to that extreme density that I always had but I would like to know if there is anything I can do to "calm" these strands, I can't keep getting a pixie cut every few weeks. The fact that I have wavy hair doesn't help, the new baby hairs tend to be pretty curly
@MariaDiazsknАй бұрын
I've been using topical minoxidil for about 3 years now. Only on the hairline and eyebrows. the areas are much fuller and the hair doesn't fall so much. I suffered from the same irritation you mentioned but after using a sulfur shampoo for a few days it disappeared and now I'm perfectly fine. I can't say with certainty that it was the shampoo or not. It just happened.
