70 thousand page tax code. Must be designed for entrapment. At the very least you must have to employ someone else to navigate it. No tax should be so complicated as to need more than one page to describe it. Government is all about building a bureaucracy that is too complicated for any individual to navigate and then one way or another they can control every individual.

We cannot forget what the fair tax would do for trade. If all U.S. products cost 20% less, assuming current 40% tax the 20% is after margin, the U.S. exports would soar. Further the U.S. would become a tax haven for foreign companies to move here. Consumer prices would go down, offsetting the sales tax, plus you get to keep your whole paycheck. Savings, investment and thrift would be rewarded. Live frugally, you are taxed frugally. Live lavishly, you are taxed lavishly. The only problem is that congress would not be able to manipulate the tax code in exchange for campaign donations. That is the reason this is not going to happen.

I would like nothing more than to see the IRS shut down but take care about what you wish for. The National Bureau of Economic Research did a study and found that exempting food, medical care, and housing would require a Federal sales tax rate from 17.2 percent to 30.3 percent. This does not include your state and local sales taxes.

Hate to burst the bubble, but the IRS will still have to exist. It will just change from an agency running an income tax system to an agency administrating a retail tax system. Either way, an agency will exist to run the system.

The whole idea is to create less powerful Government with less taxes to them. A flat tax rate would be fair. Would elimate the IRS! No filing, no 1099 etc. Plus live off of our own energy resources, which would create more independence for the American people. That's the foundation our founding fathers created. We've lost sight of that. ✌️

I’ve been out of work for two years because of health reasons the last time I had to pay taxes it didn’t take weeks for them to get me my refund back it took months literally I usually fill my taxes out at the end of January when I get my W-2, usually I will get it either by the end of February, or the very beginning of Marchthe last text deal that I got from the IRS was in July they took that long to get it back to me. He said it was because of Covid which I don’t believe.

If the IRS was fully staffed, think of the amount of taxes that the super rich have gotten away without paying, that could finally be collected! That way, it would be a big boon to the economy!
