How To Get Started SCCA Rallycross/Autocross Prep & Party Lights

I get asked a lot about how to get into rallycross or autocross pretty often, it's the most accessible form of racing for novice drivers. It's competitive at the higher levels and lots of fun for new guys/gals.
Register early as possible, do your research, even take a driving school offered by SCCA. Come out to an event and meet the crew, everyone out there is having a blast and is very easy to talk to. Car people are the best kind of people.

I'd just say to find a local race and go with whatever car you've got. If you aren't totally sure, take it easy and see where you get to. You ain't gonna be competitive the first time you go regardless, so just enjoy the experience. If you go and decide you want to do it regularly, then you can worry about getting a car that will be good for the sport.

Yeah I'm pumped! I ordered from another place last night, but they're on back order evvvverywhere. Earliest I've heard so far was August, so I'm going to keep looking around and try to get it before that.

Do they allow 2" wheel spacers on your car for rally cross? I have a mazda 3 Ive moded with wider wheels and I have them set out at 2" wheel spacers, all most 3" in the back..

Yeah they are allowed, but just be careful on the spacers they are a big failure point if you catch a lot of grip.

Love the channel just found it,I have an old 2012 Honda Fit sport and have the option to by a 2005-7(can’t remember exactly) Ford Focus,any input on what might work better for rally cross? I know the Honda stuff more but I know the older Focus was used in rally so maybe way more parts out there.any ways thanks again

Honestly the gearing in the Fit is very interesting. I think it would be killer for Rallycross. And thank you!!

I know this is old, but I've seen someone rallycross a first gen Fit. The short wheelbase and stiff frame make it great around the corners. That little 1.5 liter doesn't make a ton of power though...

why not steel wheels?

Steel wheels are commonly made very cheaply and are also very heavy. You can use them, but I wouldn't recommend them for very long. If you do bend one, that's going to be a bad time, but you could also break one along the welds that could cause a crash. Rallycross/rally is very tough on wheels.
