For me to learn how to animate in after effects is exactly what you said. As a motion designer i'm already familiar with the software and works with it everyday.

Thank you!!!! Character animation has always seemed like it needed some quantum physics level brain power. This really helped give me a starting point that doesn't seem so daunting!

For complex stuff use Moho, it is a sooo much easier tool that you won't even look back after giving it a try. After is slow, complex and really hard to handle when it comes to making real characters that do more than some rigid handwaves or basic repetitive walk cycles. I mean you Can do a lot of stuff in After but it will be so slow even with the best machines. So it ruins the creative flow. Moho's smart bones, vitruvian bones, target bone system and a lot more are just really helping a lot...It took me a long time to realise, but now that I learned and owned Moho omg...such a pleasure to use it...And then when you are done with the character you can still composite it in After, as After meant to be used mainly...

I don't like Adobe Character Animator but I love After Effects so this video is nifty to me.

Thanks for this vid! You described me exactly, though I'm a beginner. Spending hours on keyframes & speed graphs, searching for the right effect, creating more pre-comps than I can remember, makes motion gfx SO mind-numbing to me. I worked on a character animation in AE (sans-DUIK), and I spent too many hours--using puppet pins, ugh!--but I had waaay more fun! So thanks for making me feel less guilty. Will use DUIK next, but looking into Moho for sure.
@TheKeyframeAcademy Жыл бұрын
Moho is gaining popularity for sure. But its quite a different beast than After Effects. IT kind of puzzles me why people are so drawn to DUIK. These other tools are way more intuitive to use.

Great video and perfect timing! I just downloaded DUIK and tried it for the first time but there is still so much that I don't understand so this video comes perfect for me 🙌
@TheKeyframeAcademy Жыл бұрын
Yeah I really wish sometimes that DUIK wasn't the first exposure to character animation in After Effects because it is clunky and has a steep learning curve. There are better options! They just aren't free.

I've just learned the basics in after effects. Do you recommend to start learning character animation right away or what should I do?
@TheKeyframeAcademy Жыл бұрын
Depends on what you want to focus on. If you want character animation to be a big part of your future, than yes I think you can start it up. But if you're brand brand new, I think taking an hour or two to find your footing in After Effects is appropriate. I have a free jumpstart course on my website btw.

If you rig your character in after effects, can you import that rig into multiple after effects projects?
@TheKeyframeAcademy7 ай бұрын
Yes, save the character rig as its own project file, and then you can import that project file into future projects.

my figures are drawn in an chibi or semi chibi anime style. what tools or plug ins for after effects would you recommend? need to be able to get the characters in 360 .... i have used the puppet tool so far, but i need something "faster" and maybe models, that i can reuse etc.
