Depends on pressure and turbo inertia. Small turbo, light pressure? Probably fine. Big turbo, moderate pressure? Probably fine. In either case you won't spin it backwards, but you'll slow it down suddenly if you're running high pressures. I'm running 7 PSI with a similar mod on my '05 S80, but will be undoing the change before purchasing my Hilton tune.

@Dunk Gan the turbo surge thing is bad for the turbo. it can get damaged because of it. and when the turbo blows and it's metal bits get in the engine and knock about in the combustion chamber and then out it damages valves, pistons, and the stuff in your exhaust like the cat and particulate filter both are usually 500-700 pounds.

I wonder how much it is to do with the brands climb upward or the effects of not having cheap Audi models. A3 will cost you around $35k. That translates to somewhere of a $450 for a lease for my co worker, but it's suburbs of NYC so add $320 a month for insurance. That's $570 a month to lease a3

Unplugging the connector will stop it working and cause the compressor stall. The ECU will also see it and store a fault, with the likelihood of impaired performance.

this works,only for a few months in a turbo car,when the intake manifold closes,there is still pressure in the air system of the car. a diverter valve does the same thing as a blow off valve,a valve is installed on the piping from the turbo to the intake plenum and using a type of sensor it opens to release pressure. the stutututu sound is called compressor surge,and is completely unhealthy for your turbo.when the throttle closes,pressure builds up and goes back into the compressor and vents out of the compressor turbine.this causes wear. this actually does work,by unplugging the sensor the diverter valve will not operate,making sure pressure will not release,and instead vents out of the turbine,creatung compressor surge or the stutututu sound. again,please don't do this to your car edit:correction,not turbine,but compressor wheel.

It’ll put more wear on your turbo yes, but it’s a misconception that it’ll completely thrash the impeller. All it does it slow it down slightly when the throttle closes. It’s kinda like blowing air through a fan, but that fan is spinning hundreds of revolutions a second.

The flutter sound you hear is the air bouncing between the closed throttle body and compressor wheel of the turbo. The turbo is moving so fast that it practicly won’t feel any harm from moving that extra bit of air while on speed. Don’t forget these cars also have a vacuum operated wastegate. So whenever it senses a turbo overspeed of too much pressure through MAF sensor it will go limb mode. These cars are stuffed with safety features.

Off throttle surge isn't really damaging the turbo though. Lot of race cars doesn't run blow off/recirculating valve and the turbo last a season of racing or more. What really kills turbo is on throttle surge. If you hear that stututu when on throttle, prepare to repair/replace the turbo.
