You can actually get 480p via RGB SCART but it's a bit of a pain in the ass to set up as you need something that supports Sync-on-Green like the OSSC or some PVMs also there's VGA but that only works with 480p games

Thanks for the video. It would have been far more user friendly to see you actually put the components into the unit. I don't think you can do this with the slim PS2, which is what most people have 😞

I posted a comment here that might help you out. As for using a hard drive to store your games on, the slim has USB ports on it which you can hook an external hard drive up to, but you still need the FreeMcBoot FMCB v1.966 PS2 (this is the latest version).

@@PTLGLU Thank you kindly! I wasn't meaning to be too hard on the OP but many of us learn best visually and it's frustrating the number of "walkthroughs" on YT that don't actually walk you through. Another video showed comparisons of the exact convertor and comparisons of picture quality. I got one and it is amazing! It's the PS2 to HDMI Video Converter Adapter with 3.5mm Audio Output if anyone else needs it! They're cheap (around $5-$6) yet the graphics are clearer than more expensive convertors. I immediately noticed things I'd never realized before on GTA: San Andreas even on my old CRT TV and I've been replaying that game for years! I have a "fat" PS2 (could work with the slim but I don't know personally) Anyone using it: BEFORE you disconnect your current cable and replace it with the convertor you need to change your output to 'Digital Out' and select 'Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr' (instead of RGB) in the PS2 options. Next, insert the HDMI cable hooked to your TV into the convertor and plug in the charging cord (it comes with the adapter.) Small end goes to the convertor, USB end goes to any of the USB slots on the front of the PS2 in that bright blue area. Now have your mind blown as you replay your PS2 library on an HDMI TV!

You can, both PS2s take the same video+audio output cable, just different hard drive setup on the slims

Finally found the solution just get a smaller tv or a crtv I got a small 22 inch hd Vizio and the picture is perfect with my hdmi converter.

My bravia TV lasted me for years because of all the available connections, but with a crt I know Sony are pretty high tear, but a pvm monitor is top

If you can find an older plasma for cheap with no burn in, they're perfect. I have a 480p widescreen one for PS2, Xbox, and Wii.

Guys ive got a 4k smart tv and ive got your standard red white and blue the setting that work for me are Tv aspect 4:3 Ps2 aspect 16:9 RGB for the video Its like it zooms in on the picture but the tv zooms out so its focused idont know how to explain it but for nfs underground 2 its way better of course i dont know about the component

Componate is a step up from composite splitting the r,g,b channels separately handerling a better output, with progressive mode on the compatible games,you will defiantly see a inprovment then.

Because the widescreen aspect ratio for PS2 and Xbox is actually horizontally narrower than the 16:9 widescreens we're used to. Though the 480 lines are all accounted for.

I have all these cables but not satisfied because of one particular game and it's a GT4. Game itself has 1080i mode that can work with component cable but not in full range of resolution due to limitations of (analog) technology. I am searching for a solution to my problem. Can you help me? ;)

You really need a CRT to get the best image from a PS2. Preferably one that works in both 480i and 480p in rgb (like my tri-sync arcade monitor). You miss loads of detail with an upscaled image on an HD flat-screen. The difference is huge. You also need an RGB booster because the PS2 puts out a dull image in rgb and component. This applies x10 for light gun games.

@rightspritegaming Ultimarc sells a semi decent RGB booster for arcade monitors (which use 3v-5v rgb). You can get a used Extron PA 250 peaking Amp for CRT TV or tri-sync arcade monitors. These can boost the 0.7v rgb from the PS2 to the brightness needed to get an acceptable on most consumer CRTs.

Right Sprite Retro Gaming UK If one of the games support PAL 60 etc I’d have a guess it’s probably Tekken 3 because that was the first game in the franchise to ever run at 60 (although not in the PAL region obviously) 😜 I’m so glad that the walls broke down between NTSC and PAL eventually. Running the digital hdmi adapter will definitely cause lag so yes the component cable should fix that. And probably end up looking better.

When it comes to ps2 it natively does so, so no apapter will do this, unless you can stretch the image through the TV setting

@@marosis99 yes through opl you can change setting but it's very trail and error. Most of the time I would get no picture when I adjusted the settings, you may have better luck.

@@rightspritegaming it's more about if you run games threw usb or disk (if you have fat version). And of course best image you will get only if you have OPL and PS2 to HDMI. PS2 to HDMI doesn't work well if you don't have OPL.

Connecting ps2 to lcd screens with composite looks horrible and it requires you to buy lots of stuff for hdmi and component bull shit. But its easier to buy a crtv with composite bcs composite looks better on crt’s than lcd’s
