I bought my M50 a few months ago and I appreciate that you still make videos for it. Aside from the 22mm and the kit lens, I'm just adapting some old EF-S lenses I've been holding on to. I don't have any questions now but keep up the good work! Because of you I'm considering the Sigma 16mm now.

Please continue to make videos for the M50! It’s still known as the THE KZbin camera for canon users. Most ppl buy the M50 because their favorite KZbinrs still use it, so it’s like an endless cycle. 😂 I use my M50 as a travel camera! I want to get better at utilizing its capabilities, so these videos always help! The only other channel I know of that still talks about the M50 is Mark Weimels and even he has kind of moved on from M50 content. So please keep going 🙏🏾

If you already have this camera I would not get rid of it. You can always use a second or a third camera shooting a video or photo from a different angle and this camera is very capable.Or you could lend it to a friend who is very enthusiastic without worrying too much. I would even consider getting a couple of the lenses that you mentioned (Definitely the Sigma 16mm and the Pancake 22mm). However if you are just starting out and can spend a few hundred dollars more I would consider getting the R10 or the R50 as their lens mount is more future proof.

The M50 is the better proposition as of today You can't get lenses like the amazing Sigma 16, Canon 11-22 or Canon 32 for the RF-S platform. The R7 and R10 are severely crippled due to poor lens choices. Canon have released bodies and an adapter and basically not bothered with lenses, expecting their users to either buy big, heavy RF glass or adapt EF lenses. I have 7 EF-M lenses for my M50 and 4 EF lenses that covers me for any situation M50 FTW !

I love both my M50s mk I & II and I am still adding lenses to my collection in 2023 and will continue to do so for the forseeable. I have mobility issues with my legs so their compact size are a joy to use. I remain annoyed that Canon have dumped on us by refusing to support the EF-M going forward. As a reward for their disloyalty I have decided that I will not be investing in the RF system and have starting building a Sony Alpha E mount system for my photo/video future. I find it sad that the 4th Sigma Contemporary f1.4 in the 'trilogy' the 23mm is not available on the EF-M mount for the M50, nor is the beast that is the relatively affordable Viltrox 75mm f1.2! Still there is ths Viltrox 23mm f1.4 on EF-M. The small M50 has been a portal to other diminutive systems for me. I found myself buying M43 gear and my latest aquisitions have been Sony 1 inch sensor ZV-1 and the RX100, meaning I always have a camera in a pocket or a small bag with me, (not interested in using my phone). My wife has discovered the M50. I left my mk II on the table and caught her going through the menus this morning, changing the settings to black and white! We are sightseeing tomorrow in the Lake District region of northern England. She has asked can she borrow it. Proof that the M50 is still a desirable camera in 2023.

I bought the mkii three months ago and I’m not new to photography but nowhere near a pro. I have the 50mm lens and someone lent me a 150mm zoom to play with. But I totally love the kit lens at 15mm (24mm FF). I love the results I get with it and for portraits, I still have the 50mm for the blur. The wider angle is great and I’d really to try at 10-20mm lens with the speed booster attached. Just a thought - I chose the M50 for many reasons but I really liked the compactness and to be honest, how it looked. I don’t want a monster camera that I have to lug around. For this reason, I wouldn’t get the cage, even though I fully accept your reasons for getting one.

Nice vid! I bought my M50 MII a little over a month ago, so definitely looking forward to using in 2023 and beyond. I opted for a Viltrox F1.4 56mm as my first lens after the kit lens, and I’ve been happy with the purchase so far. That Sigma 16mm looks great, though I’m still debating whether I should buy one down the road.

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you're gonna do video of yourself like KZbin videos or vlogging I'd say it's a must have, but if you're going to doing more photography I'd check out the Canon 22mm or Sigma 30mm if you're looking for another option!

Nice video Andrew. Just ordered one as a light small camera to carry around (instead of always taking my bulky DSLR). Didn't want a compact or the like to went for the M50. It had what I needed on it so hopefully its not a bad buy. Obviously wont be my main camera but hopefully it will perform to my needs. Will defo look into the adaptor as not many lenses available with the M mount as canon switch the to newer RF mount instead. Stay Safe.

Woh amazing video. My camera is m50 mark II. My photos are mostly about family and landscape. What do u suggest as first lens to buy after standard kit, between canon 22 mm - sigma 30 mm - canon 50 mm. Is better adaptator or speed booster viltrox? Thank you
@AndrewKnepper
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! So between the three lenses they're all great options, but it really depends on what you want to do with it. 1. The Canon 22mm is perfect for traveling since it's so lightweight and small. A great portrait lens and landscape. 2. The Canon 50mm was my first lens and that is absolutely great for portraits not so great for landscape. You will need an adapter or the speed booster. I have not used the speed booster yet, but from what I've seen I think it is a good option. 3. The Sigma 30mm is a good medium focal range for all types of photography and I think it's a little bit sharper and better in low light than the 22mm and 50mm, but it's also going to be the most money. Hope this helps!

Hello Andrew , I have the same old camera - Canon M50 and also have the lens - Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN. I am still learning and new. Please let me know how you get so beautiful bokeh effect as you are in this video . I tried a lot with the sigma lens but unable to know how to do. If possible, please do make a video tutorial on this . Even though i have the lens i mentioned, i am unable to know how to use that to get the desired results. Quick question, if you don’t mind.. With the Viltrox adapter you recommend what’s the difference between the the “M” for $36 or the “M2” for $156?
@AndrewKnepper
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
Yeah so the $150 version is a "speed booster" which is just a fancy way of saying it makes the focal distance wider, more like a full frame camera. They are supposed to let more light in and allow the lens to get a better blurry background. I've heard good things about them, but I don't have any personal experiences. I might get one to try it out eventually!
@AndrewKnepper

Both are good options but I think the $36 one is nice because of how cheap it is

If you have limited lens choices why would you get both the 22mm and the 30mm? Wouldn't it make more sense to get the 22mm and the Sigma 56mm so your prime lens are not quite as close together? (and the kit lens covers that entire range so its not like you don't have a 30mm (or the 22mm for that matter), but it doesn't cover 56mm). I have no idea what I'm talking about so tell me why the obvious answer is still the wrong answer.
@AndrewKnepper
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't get both the Sigma 30mm and the 22mm because they're very similar (I actually made a lens comparison video to help decide between the two) but I would definitely recommend one of those great lenses over the kit lens to upgrade your Canon M50! Also, I would definitely recommend getting the Sigma 56mm if you are looking for that type of focal range! Can't go wrong with any of those Sigma lenses!
@sylvichon

Was thinking about getting the 22mm. But was thinking about the difference of the 22mm vs the 50mm with speed booster. Since i think i read somewhere that the actual focal length of the 22mm on the m50 (being a crop sensor) is 35mm, and the focal length of the 50mm with speed booster is also 35mm. By any chance, do you have a clear idea about this? Thanks man. New subscriber here!
@AndrewKnepper
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
I honestly haven't used the speed booster so I can't really say if it's worth it or not. The 50mm lens is amazing with just the adapter so I can imagine with a speed booster it would be great! The 22 mm is going to be probably cheaper and smaller. Can't go wrong with either! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@snowwalker9999
@snowwalker9999 Жыл бұрын
Aren't you making a mistake? You are saying the 50MM with the speed booster is 35mm? It is actually closer to the 50mm FF. The 22mm lense and the 50mm plus the speed booster do NOT give you the same focal length on this camera. One gives you 35mm like you said the other something close to 50mm.

@@snowwalker9999 Ohhhh now i get. Thank you for clearing that out. what you said makes alot more sense.
@bodinian
@bodinian Жыл бұрын
I did that before and I don't recommend it. The camera doesn't fix distortion when you use the speed booster, and the extra size and weight makes it heavier and more expensive, defeating the strengths of the APS-C format camera. The 22mm pairs great and gives you a high quality camera that can fit in your pocket.
@richardslater677
@richardslater677 Жыл бұрын
The 50mm lens on the M50 equates to 80mm as the M50 has a crop sensor. The speed booster will bring the focal length on the M50 back closer to 50mm (just a little more I think), so close to a full frame sensor. It won’t reduce it to 35mm.

I mean I see your point, but I believe the Canon M50 and M6 are very capable cameras in 2023 and since everyone is abandoning the M-mount that makes great lenses like the Sigma 30mm & Sigma 16mm even better priced! But I definitely think getting an adapter and buying EF Mount lenses is definitely a good long-term option!
