Important note. When fitting the tyre to the rim, the last bit of bead should be at the valve. In this video, the valve is almost opposite the last bit of bead being fitted. The valve prevents the bead from going into the deepest part of the rim called the well. That was 60 years ago. It's so much easier finishing at the valve.

I’m working as a rental bike mechanic…. My boss has 3000 bikes ffs ! And in two days I changed 10 punctures . We put new tubes in and a tyre liner that is phenomenally strong ( a pin 📌 won’t through it ) then in the winter we have a glue party 🎉….. the point is that at 61 after a life time of using my hands as pliers I’m done ✅ with it . After my 10 tyre in 2 days , and some were new , my hands mutinied. This winter ❄️ alone I think I did more than. 50 …. So we have ordered tyre pliers , but the kind that has a tube profile on each side of the jaws . This tool looks cool 😎 tho …. As always thanks 🙏 RJ …. I spread the word about you here in Copenhagen

Use this tool in the shop where I work. I haven't scratched any wheels yet and don't think I will. Works great for road tires and narrow mountain tires but is a little tricky to use on wider mountain tires. In future designs it would be nice if it were wider to accommodate the added rubber. Still, this tools has saved me a few times. For those that say they don't need any tools I say good for you. Whatever. I've mounted probably thousands of tires and have run into some where something like this is essential.

i just ordered one of these, i had MAJOR trouble installing my Panaracer Gravel King 700x32c tires. I got a flat and took it to the shop to have them put it back on. They struggled for a min, grabbed the tire jack, and had it on in 2min flat. for me this is a MUST HAVE.

Changing a tyre in a warm dry workshop is usually not too difficult but in my past 30 years on the road I've never had a puncture in a warm dry workshop ! Most of mine occur at night , in the pissing rain, in the most inhospitable place you could think off. I've had this tool for a couple of years now and to me it's a real game changer as i usually only carry one spare tube and the number of times I've nipped that with tyre levers is unbelievable. Despite some of the negative comments the one I have isn't too big and it fits easily into my saddle bag.

From struggling to fit my very tight Gator tires onto rims to two minutes to do the whole job thanks to this tool. Not only did the tool work as promised, I also avoided damaging the tube as I have done before using tire levers. This is a great product. Follow this video’s advice and work the tool slowly across the last part and it will slide on perfectly. Great product and great video.

I got one of these yesterday and it is a revelation, I run Continetal Gatorskins on Mavic Allroad rims and I'm sick of skinning my knucles / nipping tubes etc. I've even managed to snap 2 Parktool tyre levers trying to get these tyres on....however, with this it is as easy as pie. I'm carrying this with me from now on. It IS alot bigger than a couple of tyre levers but the time saved when you are commuting and stuck in the rain trying to wrestle a tyre on makes it SOOOO worthwhile. 10/10 would recommend

THAT'S GREAT!!!! The guys @ my FLBS,...scratched my rims all up, and went through several innertubes putting new tires on my fixie,......then,....charged me 4 it! At home, I started to do it myself! 700x25c, with no scratches and no pinched tubes, using the back handle end of a spoon! That looks like a good investment!😀

That's an interesting video. You endorse the idea of using a lever to install a tire. I guess you are lucky with that or you have an exceptional technique. I've installed thousands of tires, so I can't say I always avoid using a lever, because some tires are just impossible to install without a tool. My trouble is that when I use a lever, I pinch and puncture the tube 50% of the time. Not a good risk. I find the Tire Jack reduces that to about 0%. You say it's not a must-have tool. I had tires that was so reliably difficult that I carried the Tire Jack whenever I rode that bike, so I considered it a must-have at the time.

Personal success story anecdote about this tool and Gatorskin tires: I got flats three times with an older pair of Gatorskins. Two were my own stupidity (pinch flat from using a hand pump and underinflating it, another from pulling off the presta tip with said hand pump) and each time I had to take to a bike shop to remount because I couldn't get that Kevlar bead over the rim, apparently Gatorskins are known to be tough. I just got new Gatorskins a month ago and ran over this big piece of metal and went flat again. I decided to give this a try, not expecting much especially with a brand new tire. Literally 5 minutes and I seated the tire on easily with no pain or stress. I can't recommend this tool enough. It's only $11-12 and unfortunately it's a bit too big to fit in a saddle bag but it is invaluable.

"Tough?" 'Tough' isn't the word: I hope I never get a flat with my Armadillos. Took me an hour-and-a-half with 3 tire levers - and I still ruined 2 brand new tubes and almost broke the levers. Never had an experience like that in my life changing bike tires!

Having encountered a few "difficult" racing profile tires in the past prompted me to order myself one of these. Still slightly skeptical I approached the initial time I used it with a desire to give it a fair chance. To my amazement the engineered-in physics this tool embodies the tire went on quite smoothly without any undue leveraging of the tire which wasn't always true in the past. You may not require it often, but when you do RJ is on the money as to it's being of good design and with proper care shouldn't scratch your wheels. The material is what I believe used to be described as Tuff Stuff used to make virtually indestructible toys. Great video and it should be used by their company as a guide on how to best use their product.

I *love* working on bikes but have small and not very strong hands (previous injury of one and a bit of arthritis in both). I've encountered one or two bike tires and one wheelchair tire that had me hurting after a while. I can imagine this would have cut down on my work time as well as pain endured. So, $13 is a small price to pay and I'm happy to do it. Thanks for the lead!

I've got one of these built by a Taiwanese company called Bike Hand. The design is slightly different, as it's more of a scissors mechanism, but with the same slotted and hooked ends on each of the arms. It's very useful for mounting tight tires such as Continental road bike tires and 20" BMX/folding bike tires. I bought mine while vacationing in Shinjuku in Tokyo. It's not available in my home country so it's a rather rare tool here.

But nowI 've got a combination of Michelin Competitions tires with Easton EC90 rims that are a bear to install without pinching the tube. i've gone as far as using WD40 to lubricate the bead. I'm debating buying this, unfortunatly it's a bit large and nosaddle bag friendly.t

How do you deal with a tire with a bead that sits to low on the rim (as in the bead has too small of a circumference to seat easily)? I've had more than one tire that has been difficult to get straight on a 700c rim.

Nicholas Smerk Well... I think if you heat up the beads with a heat gun (when the tire is mounted on the rim) and then inflate it with a compressor or CO cartridge might do the trick. But I wouldn't do it unless its cheap rubber that no one cares about. The other thing is soap and water... and again inflate it with compressor. Good luck !

Victoria Robersohn use sand paper, fine grade, and buff it perpendicular to the direction you're sliding. Should rough it up just enough to take the gloss off the sides where your thighs hold but not enough to look rough. Take a little at a time, and use very fine (wet/dry) sand paper. Focus on an area where it won't be visible if you overdo it.

I have this tool and it does work. You still need to make sure the tube is UP inside the tire and not still between the bead and the rim or you can still pinch the tube It has happens to me.

Good tool. I needed that when I'd put a 26 inch inner tube on a 700c rim. The tyre that used to go on easily, got very difficult. I didn't want to go and buy the right inner tube. Lol

What I really need this for are my fat bike tires when I mount them on my tubeless-optimized CF rims...unfortunately it won't fit over the 4" tires. So I guess I'll be back to standing on the tire...bummer.

Koolstop used to be a pro cycling team sponsor. I remember hearing their name watching TdeF. Neat tool, but not very portable for carrying on the bike.

Maybe I'll try mounting my Michelin pro4's on my 2012 Mavic rims. Two bike shops have spent over an hour but they couldn't get it on even with tire levers.

RJ, I have a question for you. It is not related to the video, but it is related to a bicycle I own. I was moving around my bicycle, when I felt the rear tire fall down, which is weird to say the least. When I was looking at it, I noticed that it was missing the quick release bar that goes through rear bike was missing. I ask my mother, and she said she had removed it but lost it... Can I replace it with any quick relase? The model of the bike is a Giant Escape 2 - 2015.

Edisson Ortega It should be okay as long as it and go pretty tight. But you should use the correct type so the shaft is the correct diameter. Be careful with carbon parts. Wieght for someone who knows More.
