Ima an FCA MasterTech and I can tell you from experience that the CEL you had was most likely OVERBOOST! When you close the throttle with all that boost from the turbo it needs somewhere to go, hence the RECIRCULATION VALVE, it takes that pressure and dumps it back into the air cleaner to reuse. It prevents turbo lag and keeps the turbo spinning. When you cap or unplug a recirc valve it put MAJOR wear on the turbo bearing. The noise is from the turbo fighting against the boost pressure with a closed throttle. Have fun buying a Turbo for that thing! I highly recommend NOONE do this unless you want to destroy your turbocharger and void your warranty if any. Try spending actual money on real mods I have a co worker with a 500 abarth and all you need is a SRI or CAI, A BLOW OFF VALVE or HYBRID RECIRC VALVE and a GOOD TUNE!

if you want to keep the stututut noise but dont want the check engine light,, remove the recirculation valve and replace it by the proper tubing (I, T or Y connector or whatever is needed) but keep the connector in the valve. This way the ECU sees the valve is being activated and SHOULD not give the ECU light... on most cars this will be a 10min job max if you got the right parts
@puggster4 жыл бұрын
You can essentially just use a blanking plug on the Recirc valve pipe, Which means you won't need the Scanner to reset the fault codes, as the Solinoid will still operate as normal just won't receive any boost, the car engine management won't know any difference, as it won't need to be unplugged, Also saves the risk of Limp mode. You really only need to block off the Intake side, Some people remove the Recirc valve completely and block all the attached pipes, But it's much simpler just to blank it off.

Stef AB Hi Stef, I've reconnected it now, but my check engine light won't turn off. I looked up that gadget you mentioned and didn't expect it to be £200.00. I read online that'll it'll reset after a year. So now, either I spend £200.00 on that scan gauge, take it to a garage and pay them to do it, or wait an entire year for the light to go off. If I knew this, I wouldn't have done it. Any advice?
@StefABtv7 жыл бұрын

@SkyNet-ty1tm6 жыл бұрын
I have a cold air intake. I think the DINAN builds up more pressure than the divert valve can dump. Result is backflow thru the turbo. Try it. If not electrically disconnect the divert valve. (that may cause a check engine light). Some people tie wrap a dumb divert valve that is not plumbed into their turbo system so the car is happy because it sees a divert valve even though it's not plumbed in or doing anything useful
@matthewglaze53987 жыл бұрын
this is essentially turning your dump solenoid I to a bov. you can leave it plugged in and go buy a bov and adapter plate. then no light.

I have 2014 mini cooper s F56 Doing the flutter noise all the time, it came with stock after cold air intake is installed, the flutter is very loud, and it has over 120k miles on the stock turbo, still running smoothly as it is my daily commuter. so no worry that much, just enjoy the way you like it. oh, and also, one idea if anyone wanna make the flutter with out having the check engine light comes on, I insert a T10 or 192 light bulb into the dump valve connector by banding the legs out of the light bulb and use electrical tape to tape it down, that way is cheating on the Engine Control Module the dump valve electrical circuit is not broken or disconnected, so it can flutter with out having the check engine light.

Sounds like it's pressure relief through the induction kit instead of the valve relieving pressure due to being unplugged. If high boost/remap it will cause compressor stall/short life of turbo, happened on my Delta turbo in the '80s without a dump valve, woosh through induction kit was great but compressor stall on hard acc was pants

84-89 300zx dont come with a blow off valve from factory and some of them i have seen well over 200,000 miles - some reason they thought it didnt matter or need to worry about wrecking your turbo
@TimothyJavier6 жыл бұрын
They only made like 5 psi of boost on the 89 model, it didn't even have a intercooler. Putting a BOV/BPV may have had little effect, as there is not a lot of pressure
@TimothyJavier6 жыл бұрын
If you're running 8 or more psi i'll say is when you may want to have a BOV/BPV to reduce the wear on the compressor. Even if the effects of not running a BOV or BPV are neglectable, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
@theone-ou1je6 жыл бұрын
18 psi on mine just fine - flutter flutter - just fine no issues here - i think its personal preference with this idea - either way it sounds cool -
@TimothyJavier6 жыл бұрын
the one Just because it is running now, doesn't mean it will later. It won't sound good when your car doesn't run at all
@TimothyJavier6 жыл бұрын
the one There is a reason why most cars these days come from factory with a BPV, manufacturers won't waste their money installing them on every single turbocharged vehicle they make for no reason.
@johnsimun65335 жыл бұрын
So, all I have to do prevent the valve to dump the excessive pressure from the turbo? Would I not want to dump the excess pressure somewhere? Can you explain where the pressure built from the turbo goes, if not dumped somewhere/anywhere? Cool noises tho.

Turbos are a type of air pump? They pump air one way, only? They produce a good amount, to a lot of pressure. That is being sent through the intake system? The engine is itself a big air pump? So if an pump charging the larger pump gets backed up would that not be good? An N/A engine “air pump” has blow-by, essentially the pressures that are deferentially above and below the rings around the piston, will have pressure go by, they are designed to allow the occurrence periodically? Are turbo manufacturers and engineers, designing with the reintroduction of previous pressures, being pushed backwards when compared to the normal operation?

My Mini Cooper S F56 used to do it stock, it would flutter nice and loud every up shift (MT) with no need to unplug the valve. But after a year of driving it and 3000 km the flutter is not there most of the time, it is barely noticeable from 2nd to 3rd but that’s about it. I can’t really notice a difference in how the car runs, if anything I feel it runs better because of the 3k it takes the engine to break in. But definitely miss the flutter.

Does this damage anything? The pressure is going back through the turbo?
@jornribbers5 жыл бұрын
No, it only slows the turbo speed down, making for a bigger turbo lag when going on the throttle again

Hey stef, in order to get the flutter sound do I need an air intake or will I still get it with full stock components on everything? Is there a certain supporting mod I’d need to get the turbo flutter?
@StefABtv6 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. It’s all detailed in the video. Intake makes the flutter Louder. It’s not good for the turbo and will flag an EML

Work on all Abarth? Dont there get any dirt or shit in the engine? How does it work?
@StefABtv7 жыл бұрын
+Ton Deusex should do, on the t jet engine but do at your own risk. Redirects air through the Turbo rather than through the recirc also will flag an eml

Would this work on a 69 plate abarth? And if the engine light comes on will it turn off when you plug it back in?

Ugh I'm torn on either getting an Abarth 500 or the Abarth 124 Spider 😓😓😓
@StefABtv7 жыл бұрын
+Jose Rodriguez both are great cars! I know a few how have bought 124 spiders and love them. They both had 500's prior

Stef AB nice man! Only problem is that here in the states they sort of give us a deluded version of the abarth which sucks.. even the steering wheel doesn't get an abarth badge but a simple Fiat one 😖
