Just for other moms, it’s actually a sign of a healthy (young) baby that they wake frequently to feed or to be settled. This actually protects against SIDS as they do not get into as deep of a sleep. Please read into this moms. It’s such a short time of sleep deprivation, and as a mom of multiples, believe me, I know how hard it can be! You’ll make it through

@J H amen! My baby sleeps about 9 hours every night since around week 8. He wakes up feeling well rested and hungry. I spoke with his pediatrician and asked if I should be waking him up to feed and he said to not do it. That he will wake up when he is hungry (said his digestive system is maturing. Hence, he does not need to eat every two hours) and that rest is just as needed for development. Also, babies don't know how to move from one sleep cycle to rhe next, that's why (not always) they kind of wake up, but if you give it a minute, they will move onto the next. Then, they will learn to do it just like we do. Many times, we rush to pick them up and feed them thinking that they are hungry. Most of the time, we are just waking them up (babies even cry in their sleep) and making them upset.
@HarrietD-ph7bw Жыл бұрын
Okay. Everybody here needs to read Healthy Sleep Habits by Dr. Weissbluth. He explains that frequent night waking BEFORE THE AGE of 3 months is protective against SIDS. However, once the circadian rhythm is established, the function of frequent night wakings changes to be socially motivated, not biologically. There are genetic and social factors at play, yes, but the perpetuation of night waking is motivated by parent response.

Wish I saw this video when my little guy was born. He slept 12 hours straight by the time he was 8 weeks old. Main things I implemented was a darkened room, sleeping in crib, love to dream swaddle, no Paci, no rocking, just put straight in crib fully awake, and a bedtime of 5 pm - 5 am. Things were going great! I had gone back to work part-time (25-28 hours a week, Fridays off) Right when he hit 5 months, he got hit hard with teething/growth spurts. His schedule went off the rails for a month and I was in tears because I was not used to being sleep deprived. Now we’re at 6 months and he still wakes up once a night but we’re working on trying to drop that night feed. I just learned to enjoy by baby and stopped stressing 24/7 about his sleep schedule. It’ll all fall back in place with time.

Oooh yeah . Im the night watchman and caregiver dad for my 3month old baby during night time. I bottle feed her with formula while her mother sleeps with her elder sister. I do the thing every 4 hours at night. I normally pause feeding for every 30ml in order to burp. That is a comfort to her and fells asleep as soon as she gets enough milk. Unless she would end up crying 😫😫😫😫 or wide opened eyes 😳😳😳😳 in the middle of the night.😖😖😖😖 So my fellow dads take your time to feed while burping out the air which is trapped. Im my babys case she easily sleeps more than 6 hours at night without demanding for milk. When she finally gets it she find it difficult sucking milk and begins twisting her body as if she couldnt burp. So the assumption is the air(gas) was produced by her self in her tummy as she was starving and its actually not the trapped air while sucking milk. So i decided not to starve her more than 5 hours at night and continue her regular feeding schedule even at night whether she demands or not. Finally it worked for me. So at night, 5hrs mark is my deadline where she gets free milk without a demand.

The baby time is so short. By my fourth baby I threw a schedule expectation out the window. My last two were breastfed. I don’t know how breastfeeding moms are able to nurse and also get their babies to sleep in their own bed. The only way either of us get sleep is with her on my chest and dream feed on demand. Letting her cry even a few minutes at night causes her to fully wake up and takes longer to get her back to sleep. Good job for the mommas that are able to somewhat keep their pre pregnant schedule but for those mommas that can’t just know it passes fast and don’t stress. Your baby will be grown and gettting married in the blink of an eye. 💗

Starskyy first month was definitely hard especially while i was breast feeding. He would wake up every 2-3 hours to feed. At 3ish months i started putting him to bed at the exact time each night, fed him before bed, rocked him a little bit till he was a bit tired (still awake though) and put him down. Let him sooth himself, usually he would cry 5-15 min. And sleep close to 6-8 hrs at night by then. At 4 months i moved him to his own room , with black out curtains. I believe that helped stretch out his sleep to 11-12 hours for sure. With two naps a day, but he only naps if its in a dark room though 😭 hope it helps! 🙏🏼

I'm a second time mom, and I just learned this time around, that babies have about a 45 minute sleep cycle. Meaning that after 45 mins, they sort of wake up, whine a little, but if given about 5 minutes they will fall back to sleep on their own and have a good 1.5hr to 2hr nap, or longer depending how old they are. Of course if baby is full on crying then nap time is over. lol

She would be sleeping through the night if you had implemented a strict schedule. It’s not too late you would just have to be strict. Her not sleeping through at 15 months although can be considered normal isn’t necessarily good. And most likely is causing you problems during the day. Like tantrums, overstimulation oftener and quickly, over active, hard to sooth when it is nap time or bed time ECT. These things are caused by not sleeping well at night. But can be fixed if moms would actually stop thinking that they HAVE to follow the child’s path instead of creating the child’s path. Allowing them to dictate how they are going to sleep is the first problem. The second is thinking that having a schedule to the T is cruel or hard when in fact the hard thing is still waking up at almost 2 years old.

Thanks for this. My baby is about to turn a month old in a few days and I wanted to try to start somewhat of a schedule here in a couple weeks or so. Right now I’m just in survival mode but I have 3 other kids so it’s important that I start trying to get into a routine when he’s ready. Right now he is up for 4-6 hours straight at night from about 6pm till midnight and it’s been rough no matter what I do he won’t sleep at all in between those times. When he finally does fall asleep he sleeps well but it’s been a struggle having to be up at 7am to get my kids ready for school. I just remind myself everyday that he’s only this little for such a short amount of time and to embrace it.

YES! We followed this same approach (same books!) with the addition of "Cherish the First Six weeks" and we also found that around 10-12 weeks our son was sleeping through the night (we continued a "dream feed" until about 12 weeks by then he was so sleepy he wouldn't even be interested in eating. (I was exclusively breast feeding) He is now 7 months old...no sleep regressions, sleeping 7:30pm-7am. We have had to make adjustments as he has changed and grown (sometimes adding an extra nap and feeding if he wakes up early from naps) Hard work to keep yourself on track (we wake him up each morning at 7am) especially when you want to sleep in! We have travelled extensively and been thrown "off schedule" on travelling days, but by keeping the same routines (Sleep - Eat - Play) and giving him the same sleeping cues, he has always re-adjusted well :)

My six month old still wakes up to feed twice a night (1am &5am) which is normal. New parents shouldn’t expect their baby to sleep through the night by three months. That is expected between 6+ months when babies are old enough. I’m so angry that there is so many people and terrible marketing especially on the Internet - KZbin. Every baby is different and has different needs. Each baby has his or her own pace for feeding and frequency same for sleep. Some babies sit at 4-6 months some sit 6+ months because each baby is working on a specific set of skills for him or her at the right time. And every milestone for your baby will come at the right timing. There’s no need to worry. And babies don’t need a whole lot of baby gear and stuff. Can we just go back to basics? That is great you feel proud your baby slept through the night but it’s TOTALLY MISLEADING to new parents (I am a first time mom) I am still underslept, breastfeeding with mono, and I am not complaining. We wanted our babies, our babies are not to blame for us being tired.

I’d like to add that as a sleep consultant myself if you go to AAP guideline sleeping through the night is anywhere from 8-12 hours. Your baby is technically sleeping through night at 8 hours so pat yourself on the backs if they are and for those whose aren’t don’t worry they will eventually. Also BEWARE the first 2-4 weeks don’t push a schedule because they still need to be waking up to feed until the reach back to their birth weight every 2.5-3 hours on average. Talk to your pediatrician at the 4 week if it’s okay to let them sleep until they wake up hungry.
@jennymacias73043 жыл бұрын
I’ve also been told by pediatrician that 5 hour stretches is considered sleeping through the night for newborns
@theblankpages75613 жыл бұрын
@@jennymacias7304 Take what pediatrician says with a grain of salt they aren’t certified in sleep just pediatric with basic knowledge of other things unless specifically have the credentials for it. APP guidelines are the national standard. And by newborns what age specifically ?....because any newborn baby younger than 4 week should NEVER go 5 hour straight with out food. 3 hours is the absolute MAX I let them sleep especially if previous feeding was a rough one. And by 3 hours I start it from the time they start eating not from when they go back to sleep

Yes babies do recognise patterning but there is no good evidence for ‘sleep schedules’ under 6 months and night waking helps keep breastmilk supply up in the early months and is thought to be protective against SIDS. Now I got some tips to try!!
@ninarechin25317 ай бұрын
Yeah, so after the 8 week newborn stage, i think it's okay to start pausing at every single cry. Around 3m you should start to learn what each cry means, if they are hungry, teething, in pain, need a diaper change or if they are just fussy and want a snuggle. Self soothing is good for babies to learn, it teaches independence at an early age. Just wait a few seconds and listen to the cry and determine if they need you, and you will also learn what each cry means by doing this.

This is so great! I just started sleep train 3 days ago and im not sure how long will it take for him to get use to it! And not so sure if my nap routine is right - it needs tweaking. Did your baby fight your training ? When did he start to embrace it? Can you do a step by step video of your nap routine and hear the journey of your babies getting familiar with it and the hic cups?? Would love to hear your story!

My 3 month old son is already a(my opinion) a good sleeper, goes to sleep wakes up like 4 to 6 hours later, feed him the bottle and goes back to sleep for another two hours. Idk some people may consider this great or not. Ill take what I can get. Lol

5 hours is considered sleeping through the night for a newborn so that’s great! My one month old already sleeps for the same amount of hours too and I feel so much better now that I’m getting more sleep. I was starting to feel very stressed out and sad.

My baby goes to bed no later than 9:10pm until 6-7am in the morning. She sleeps the whole time. I do have to wake her up if she sleeps longer than 7am to eat (this way it doesn’t mess up her eating schedule). She takes 2-3 naps during the day, but lately she’s only been taking 2 naps a day. Long naps, around 1-2hrs sometimes longer

so ive found that if you can catch those cues, sucking noises and stuff, just grab them and feed them most of the time they wont even wake up if you catch it early and they go right back down. this extends sleep by 2-3 hrs for me i have found. good luck

She titled her video this way to get many views. It's impossible from a medical side of view to let a 3 months old to sleep through out the night on a daily basis. Let a lone is flat out unhealthy to not feed during the night at least once. This baby will have many issue as he grows up unfortunately! Hope you all well. Just keep doing what's best for the child and don't be selfish.

I want to discuss sleep and general “transitioning” for my second baby coming in the fall. With my 1st, I coslept and breastfed for 2 years. I liked having her near me because I wanted to encourage that instinct and bonding especially after she was literally part of my body for 9 months... However, I struggled with knowing when to “transition” to the next phase and I found each transition was SO agonizing for all of us. Examples: > when to transition from being with mom (co-sleeping or bassinet for example), to say a CRIB + if baby is right next to mom in whatever capacity and they dry or wake are you grab right away or put arm on them right away doesn’t this make them dependent on you for that instant response (not saying it’s bad) just posing question of - does it make that later transition of them self soothing etc more difficult when you suddenly aren’t responding and what does this all look like. I mean at 3am I wasn’t into letting my 1st scream and scream when she woke so that my hard working husband would then also wake up. > when and HOW to cut off night BREASTMILK so that it’s easier and HOW/ what to do to get them to sleep and no longer be dependent on those night feedings? I felt like there was yelling and arguing because my 1st was a toddler when I finally took the milk away at night(2yrs). I couldn’t handle not getting any sleep after 2 years of giving my first my all. 🥹 Things I have been told so far: > I have learned/heard that not letting a baby fall asleep ON you if you’re breastfeeding so they don’t associate “I only sleep if I am on mommy” is a good place to start > putting them in a crib when they are tired but not yet asleep so they “fall” asleep in their physical space (crib) > that using crib for naps right away when they are a newborn will more easily develop the habit as opposed to car sleeping more than a crib or a side sleeper more than a crib.. > keeping a lot of noise so they can sleep deep in noise as opposed to being a 👻 when they are asleep. My first is such a light sleeper and we never made a peep! Sorry this is long winded. I don’t even know what my exact questions are. I just need a better flow and plan to be confident in this second time around that May have worked for several others. So please help! I am more open minded than I used to be! Any little nuance you can share I’d love to hear!! Thanks

I love your video! Im big babywise person..i need some confidence lol advice. My baby is 12.5 weeks old now...and shes been 7-9 hours a night since she was 8 weeks old. But its gotten to the point where I want her to sleep 12 hours..but Idk how to edit my babywise schedule of 7am feed waketime nap 9:30 feed waketime nap 12:30 feed waketime nap 3:30 feed waketime nap 5:30-6:15 feed wake catnap 8:30-9...feed bedtime routine Then sometimes dreamfeed but she wont take it. Lately she wont nap consistently...the past 2 weeks ive been having naps strictly in her crib with the method you use. But idk how to start putting her to bed earlier if she still needs 6 feedings in 24 hrs and when to put her to bed then...

Most babies should sleep quite well by 3 months. Both of mine did just naturally really. Some people I know theirs do not sleep well. Every baby is different. .My daughter is 3 months and has been waking for one feed since 8 weeks. Usually by 4 months they sleep through amd she has done this once or twice already. Best tips are don't fuss too much, expecially after 8 weeks. Don't let them rely on rocking or you soothing to get to sleep. Feed, burp change and put them straight back down to sleep even if awake and they learn to self soothe.

I just watched the video 1 hour ago. I usually rock my baby to sleep. I simply put the white machine full blast (usually I play at mid volume) I watched for babe to get sleepy and put her down with her pacifier, she wined a little, so I did rock her a just for like 20 secs put her back down and left her to sleep. She is still sleeping! I have been rocking her for 20 minutes to fall asleep and this is a game changer. I hope it continues 😩. Thank you for the tips!

Such a great video. Really great advice esp when you are talking about pressing and waiting for a few moments to see what sort of cry your baby has. Sleep training isn't just for your baby to get them to sleep but a GREAT WAY OF YOURSELF LEARNING WHAT SORT OF CRY THEY HAVE . yes babies need alot of cuddles and holding but there is a massive difference between crys and sleep is one the most important part of your babies development.

My baby is five months now and I tried a few times to do this method but it didn’t work. She would just be so frustrated and hungry. I’m glad it worked for you guys though! I hope I can figure out a better way. Thankfully I stay home with her but she wakes up 1-3 times a night. We have been feeding and rocking her to sleep but it takes so long because she wakes up as soon as her head hits the mattress so I’m not sure what we are going to do but definitely going to keep praying and doing some research lol. Maybe this method is worth another try?
