Did this with both my kids. My daughter was a hard nut to crack but by 12-15 months she was sleeping 10 hours just fine. Now she's 3 y 8 m and is still a great sleeper. My son is now 8 months and I went from co sleeping and waking every 2-4 hours for feeding to sleeping alone in his crib for 11 hours in just 2 days with this method. The first night was painfully horrible. The second night he seems to understand a little better. The third night it was as if he discovered how wonderfully glorious a good, long peaceful sleep is. I set him in his crib, he makes himself comfortable and goes to sleep. I am so relieved. I wake up the next morning ready to be the best parent I can be. 10000% needed. Naysayers just don't know better 💯

I’m honestly so so shocked. I already notice a huge difference in my 1 year old son. Let me just say a few things before anyone thinks I’m jumping the fence here lol: My son is FULLY breastfed. All throughout the day and all throughout the night. He wakes up about 4-6 times a night to breastfeed and throughout the day he is always following me around and BEGGING at my knees for a feed about every 1-2 hours. My milk production has kept up with his needs of breast milk. This method however has calmed him down about bedtime. After 2 times of doing the 10 minute intervals he’s quieted down quite a bit and has gone to sleep on his very own for the first time. Im IN LOVE with this method. Thanks so much for this helpful video!!!

I just tried the "no cry" method and it made my baby worse. It was to stay in the room with her, but to her it was like 'why are you here but not interacting with me'. so I switched the method I was using mid way during a sleep session and did this and my baby went down after the third check in. And she wasn't crying as hard either. Each baby is different and I can already tell my baby likes this one more.

Omg the no cry method kinda sucks, at least for my baby. I'm going to try this method and hope for the best. But I have a question, what if after the 3rd check in, or even a 4th or 5th, the baby is still crying heavily?...I'm worried that I might give in after a while. Like how how many check ins should do?...😢 I'm running on little to no sleep here..

Once they are eating three meals a day and snacks it is less crucial but still encouraged by breastfeeding specialists

All I know is that my husband and I have barely slept in months and the consequences of that is our health going down hill, health which we need to look after children, and also our tempers/irritability levels have went up causing us both to become very snappy and impatient with our 3 year old who is at an age where he struggles to regulate emotions. Right now, psychologically, he is much more likely to be impacted by our sleep deprived personalities over a prolonged time than our 6 month old is by having to do a bit of crying for a few nights. So I think we really will have to try this...although we are in the same room as the baby still so not sure how we'll to make it work.

Hiscock led one of the few long-term studies on the topic. It's a randomized controlled trial - the gold standard in medical science - with more than 200 families. Blogs and parenting books often cite the study as "proof" that the cry-it-out method doesn't harm children. But if you look closely, you quickly see that the study doesn't actually test "cry it out." Instead, it tests two other gentler methods, including the camping out method.

Since the fourth night she is been waking up once. She doesn’t sleep the 10-12 hours in a row but at least she is not waking up every 2 hours as she used to do. Every night since we started the training I put her in the crib and she doesn’t cry and in about 10-15 min she finally falls a sleep. My husband and I were skeptical about this method but in our experience it worked out.

I think you misspoke at 6:57. From what I have read about Ferber, you do not restart the 3, 5, 10 time sequence throughout the night. It is 3,5,10 and then 10 onward for the rest of the night. Right?? Otherwise this is a great video and I was going to show it to my grandparents to get them on board but I think that error would throw them off.
@Ark-Angel443 ай бұрын
One thing they don't specifically address, only hint at,but i think it's key .... And what the touchy feely types don't get, is the newborn infant is in survival mode. Cries are their only means of communication. Between 4-6 months, babies start to recognize that "if i cry, they come." That's why this method is actually critical. And why the process works. It's the right balance of reassurance and "you're okay".
@NeeNuhWin2 жыл бұрын
You stated to keep checking in until the baby’s falls asleep.. well what happens if the baby doesn’t fall asleep? Do you let the baby cry all night long and keep checking in until sunrise? At what point do the subsequent check ins should stop and know that the Ferber method is not working? I tried the Ferber method for 3 consecutive nights and my baby cried for 3.5+ hours until I gave in because apparently we’re supposed to “stop the check ins when the baby falls asleep”.

I'm an active dad who stays up with our daughter every night until 3am. We're trying the Ferber method now for the first time. Wife is back to work already and our daughter is 3 months.

Give baby some infant Panadol before he sleeps. Read instructions on packaging for how much to give him.

I don’t think it’s recommended to start sleep training when you think they are particularly bothered by teething. Best to wait a couple weeks.

@dolphynlvr4 thank you, i was thinking the same as my daughter (5 months old) is teething and not really having a good night's sleep. I.ll just wait a little longer and this method is the first i am going to try.

Our Baby sleeps 25 min naps during day time ( he will be 6 months in 9 days). He’s eating day time is not enough- so he feeds at least 2 -3 times during the night. Recommendation? I would like to start this so we don t rock him to sleep/ and also to help him connect day naps -longer.

It took my first kid 1 day to sleep train. My second baby...after 2 weeks I gave up tried again a month later with the same results. He eventually figured it out on his own when he was about 18 months old. 3rd baby didn't need sleep training, she just started sleeping through the night. Now my 4th is the worst. I am doing this check in thing for over 3 hours. We are still in the first week but it's awful.

Ok so when baby wakes up in middle of night you reset the times so start again with 2, 5, etc, yes?

Can we use Ferber method at 9 months ? And baby sleeps in the crib on the same room as parents. Does this work ? Thanks

My daughter is 9.5 months and we had to start this method because it was no longer feasible to have irregular sleep. We are on the 8th night, and it is working. Our daughter is very persistent though...so right now it seems to be the "extinction burst" which basically is a huge tantrum before it actually settles down. But our night are much better. Will they cry? YES. Will it hurt your feelings? YES. Is it still worth it? YES. :)

Once the child is sleep trained with the Ferber method, will it hamper if a child's routine gets disturbed due to some unavoidable situations like travel or getting sick etc?

Thank you for the information! We are looking into sleep training for our second baby. He generally sleeps pretty well at night but often wakes up and needs us to give him his pacifier in order for him to put himself back to sleep. Is that going to hinder the self soothe process? Also, how would we implement sleep training for naps? He only naps on us or in his swing (which I know is unsafe and I hate doing it!) so we really need to get him to nap in his crib! Any tips?

Love the video and am very excited to start once my son turns 4 mo. 2 quick questions that I haven’t seen answers to in the comments yet: 1. Do I absolutely have to stop night feedings or could I still feed once during the night, then put baby down awake and do Ferber again? Or do you recommend never feeding at night? 2. He’s sleeping in a SNOO in our room right now but we want to transition him to his crib in his room (door connections our bedroom) and sleep train at the same time ideally. Cold turkey. Would you recommend? THX so much, you guys are super sweet and reassuring!

I think it’s confusing for babies if sometimes you feed them when they wake up and sometimes you don’t. I would recommend stopping night feeds. And i would do naps in the crib for a few days before you sleep train to get him acquainted with the crib and then do the sleep training

Is this possible with twins that sleep in the same room? I tend to pick up one and move out of the room so I dont wake up the other. Should i only use the method if they are both crying? Of course, only if I know that they don't need their nappy changing/to be fed/ or not ill etc

This video is really informative - I am hoping to try this method so that we can have a consistent bed time. At the moment the baby only falls asleep when being cuddled.

Thank you for the video. May I have a question please? My baby will not stop crying when I try to calm him down like patting, shushing, even picking him. He won't settle and keeps crying till I give him a bottle for comfort. What should I do in that situation?

When do you transition the baby into their own room? Does keeping them in your room (in their cot) make it harder for them to sleep and resettle by themselves ?

Thank you for sabering this. I have a 3 month old and my husband and I are thinking about sleep training out baby at 4 months in her crib. She takes all her naps on her crib unless we’re on the go. I know doctors don’t recommend babies to get out of parents room until 6 months. Is it safe to sleep train in their own room since 4 months?

Do you use the same method for naps? My 5 month old only take 30-45 min naps and I feel like if it will take me 30 mins to put him down, that he will have no naps at all. 😅

Do you only do the check ins when baby cries? Or whenever they’re awake ? Also what about for babies who can’t sleep without a pacifier?? My baby wakes everytime it falls out and that’s what keeps her up all night

I have a 9 month old and never got to have her in a crib because we lived in a small studio before until we moved into out bigger studio/ apartment and got a crib now. I don’t know what to do because my baby kept crying for a while and I broke and picked her up. I tried getting to sleep again in there but she started screaming like she is scared. What should I do ?

My baby beat the system… she cried for 2 straight hours until the point she started literally choking. I had to pick her up. It was like that for 3 straight nights. We tried everything we can’t get her to fall asleep on her own

What do you do when baby tolls on their tummy and cannot roll back ? Do you go in and place them back? My baby does this a lot and I don’t know how it will affect the sleep training. Also - baby doesn’t eat enough during the day ( maybe 14 oz-17 oz)so he needs 2-3 night feeds or he ll wake up every 1 h . What do you recommend?

I have a boy who is 8 months now. He still wakes up 3-4 times at night and nap twice for 30-40 min (2 hrs if I sleep with him n feed him) a day 😔😞 I always wanted to do sleep training but it scares the hell out of me since my baby doesn’t stop crying if I try him to comfort even for a day (let alone three weeks). I have tried to comfort him without feeding him since he doesn’t need to be feed in the middle of the night but he will wake up otherwise. We have tried him couple of days but he wakes up and stayed for 11/2 hours or more. And as parents we are scared of not making him sleep enough… it’s so frustrating and kinda confused 🫤 cuz I hear kids his age sleep through the night and naps for 2 hours twice … As you said he gets up, sit and even stand on his bed n play or cry in the middle of the night. Any suggestions???? Thanks 🙏🏽

If you're going back and forth and there's no stop in crying over multiple checks over and over at what point do we pick him up and soothe him?
@nightflower132 жыл бұрын
What are you suppose to do in the middle of the night when your baby is crying for hours and the check-ins aren’t helping? I’ve been up to 4:00 am listing to my little one cry and doing timed check-ins. There’s a point where it’s so late and he’s cried for 2-3 hours that it’s just too much.
