The two year free charging was tipping point I used to talk my wife into the Ioniq 5 purchase. i understand your point but I think it was a smart move to incentivize new people to purchase the Ioniq 5. Worked on me!

@@freddiefamble4774 Yeah, I imagine that got a lot of people to sign up. But people definitely took advantage of it. I use my home charger, but on a recent long trip. We used this. I bet so many even with a at home charger just went there because it was free. But how much did you really save compared to home. Cost me like 20 dollars a month at home and that with 2 ev cars. It really did cause electrify to get bombarded with those getting free. I say instead of that 400 dollar credit, a discount to electrify. People wouldn't abuse it because it wasn't free and they wouldn't be as full. I just wish there was a service that applied to all chargers instead of one company.

Same here! I even passed on using the charging installation credit because I figured the charging technology would improve over the next two years.

I love the two years free. Used a lot more than $400 bucks in free charging! And my wife and I go to date night ice cream when we charge the I5 and I’m at 6 months of ownership. No downside for me.

I think unlimited charging for "X" years as an incentive would work if it was restricted to chargers outside your home market (i.e. chargers not within like 50 miles of where you live). That would have limitied it to travel charging and not daily recharging causing congestion at the charging stations. However that is a more complicated program. The word "unlimited" has much better marketing appeal than a fixed $400. It's psychological, people think it's a much better deal and that they will use it much more than they actually do. It's why it's called an "all you can eat" buffet not a "two plate" buffet.

This $400 credit might help you if you have Charge Point close to you home but not when you travel. The majority of their stations are L2 and even very limited quantity of DC stations have only about 60KW power.

The two year electrify America free charges actually much better deal compared to this. From my perspective if you own a performance EV like I have a ev6 GT and the range isn't the best on it so I have to charge every other day and I don't have a charger at home so the 2-year EA is much more preferable for me. I think for EV that have good range like the standard ionic 5 or the regular ev6 they shouldn't really need the two year free EA. This charpoint would be better

Yeah I'm in the same boat with my 2023 gv60 performance. In this Cold I've had to charge every third day at the latest and using the 3 years free charging has helped since it would cost a fortune to pay for "fast" charging every few days. Also the slow charging speeds right now sucks.

Can you do a video on which apps to use when finding charging stations? I’ve got about 7 apps loaded so far and there’s overlap between many of them. I’ve got a long trip coming up and I’m confused what to use and should I just use the in-car nav? Thanks
@TheIoniqGuy
@TheIoniqGuy 3 күн бұрын
In terms of locating chargers, the only app you really need is Plugshare. It's community based and has the most up to date information on existing locations as well as upcoming locations. If however you only want to use EA to take advantage of free charging if you have it, I would just use the EA app and find which charger is next on your route. The built in route planner works well at doing this on its own.

I wonder if you can answer this one and it would be great to answer it on your channel since some people may not read the comments I was at a Tesla showroom yesterday and they told me non-Teslas do not get 100% access to all chargers, including level, 2 destination chargers and on the fast chargers, they do get access to Prices will be higher than Tesla customers. Do you know is that true, non-Teslas will not get full access to all Tesla, public chargers, both DC and level 2 destination, chargers ?

I have a 2025 Ioniq 5 that I charged at a Tesla Supercharger, which appears on the Tesla charger map as a 'NACS Partner site'. In other words, I think only the subset of Tesla Superchargers identified as 'NACS Partner site' are open to Hyundai.

The mandate that a free home charger must be installed by a Hyundai affiliate is concerning. How much do they charge for installation? $500?, $1000, $2500? Nobody knows. Do you know Ioniq guy? This might be the most expensive installation of a "free" home charger ever. How about some pricing transparency Hyundai?
@TheIoniqGuy

It depends on many variables with your home. If you have an electrical panel in your garage and you're putting it right next to it, it could be a few hundred dollars. If the panel is on the other side of your house and they need to run conduit and 75' of 4AWG wire, it's probably going to be thousands. There's no way they could provide a quote without sending someone to your home. It's likley cheaper to just buy the charger and hire a local electrician.
@nevadaxtube
@nevadaxtube 8 сағат бұрын
@@TheIoniqGuy Yeah, good points. My panel is directly on the other side of the garage wall where I would install the charger. It's less than 3 feet away at most. I would probably opt for the $400 Chargepoint credit anyway. Thanks.

@@nevadaxtube I have an even better set up for install in my garage, but the quote was crazy high. Hyundai Marketplace estimate close to $2k vs. a local electrician estimate of approx $500.

I got a unsolicited offer from genesis home to install a charge point charger. I sent them pictures and a video showing the electrical panel is in the garage which is now a bedroom and I wanted the charger on the other side of the wall next to the electric meter. So less than ten feet. They quoted me over $500 for the charger and over 1100 to hardwire in for a total with tax of about $1700. A bit too much I think for having to virtually run no lines.

The two year EA is actually much better deal because first if you don't have a charger at home then that 2 year comes in clutch. And where I am for me at work I have free chargepoint and also by my house I have free chargepoint. So rather have the 2 year free EA
@COSolar6419

@ “Better” is very dependent upon one’s situation. I have a home charger and while not free, it is inexpensive and much more convenient than going to an EA station. Not to mention the nearest EA location is 65 miles away. We did use the free EA charging on several 1,000+ mile road trips but probably saved less than $400 in those two years. Outside of the Interstates and major urban areas EA locations are rare. The free EA Charging offer is also one of the reasons for long lines at many urban and suburban EA locations. That doesn’t impact me but it is a frequent compliant.
