I just did the process here in the Mexican Consulate in Chicago I didn’t know of this video until today but I have to pick up my acta de nacimiento de Mexico in a few weeks and when I do I will try to schedule an appointment for the passport to get it done the same day. Your videos are on point 100% I was lucky enough to just go to the registro civil without an appointment because they can take you from a Monday to Friday from 9am to 11am as long as you have all necessary documents. I was born in the USA and my parents are both from Mexico. If you are doing the dual citizenship born here in the USA and both parents from Mexico It’s very simple as long as you provide them with both your parents Birth Certificate of Mexico, Certificate of Marriage and one of the 3 options of ID such as Voting ID, Passport or Matricula and of course your state ID and US passport and most importantly your Birth Certificate which has to be the Long form ( for USA citizens the long form that has your name and your parents names and time and date you were born ) they do keep the original to send back to Mexico for the process of the acta de nacimiento so if you like you can get the long form from the state you were born it’s like $15 for an original copy if you don’t have it. The process is very simple as you explained as long as you have all the necessary documents and the names all match when they review it’s a very simple process . I’m glad that you are very informative on these videos

Hi Jenny and Kevin! I just want to first say thank you again. I watched this video a few months back and now I am in the process of getting my passport next week! Whew, couldn't have done it so confidently without y'all. I am getting ready to move to Mexico for 6 months to a year in January. I am getting nervous about taxes. How have y'all prepared for that? I am likely to have to become a contractor with my company since I will be working remotely for a long period of time but I don't plan to make Mexico my permanent home. Do you have any content around this?
@EatBailaTravel

Hi Nancy, I'm so glad to hear this was helpful! How exciting! I wish I could help with the taxes part, but unfortunately we haven't experienced that yet. In terms of preparation, we didn't really prep much at all to be honest... we will be figuring it out when we file taxes in the next cycle and can hopefully make a video about it someday. From what I understand, it will depend how long you lived in the USA vs Mexico to determine if you have tax liability. There is a Facebook group called US Expat Tax Questions (facebook.com/groups/usexpattax) perhaps that will be more helpful to you.

Hi Abraham! We’re glad you find our videos useful. We struggled to our Mexican citizenship and made countless errors so we figured we’d share our experience. I, Kevin, was doing some research on bringing my car. And here’s what I learned. At the border you have to naturalize your car. Aka make your car Mexican and It costs around 3k dollars. For me that’s way too much but I don’t think the prices change. You can also get your car permits for half a year. But you would have to cross the border every six months

If ypu apply for dual citizenship thru the Mexican government than you have to get an apostile from the US State where those US documents were issued. Then you take all of that to Mexico & talk to the office there to get it translated by their certified interpreters.

Is the mother also born in mexico? If the mother is Mexican born and the father is not on the birth certificate it works in your favor to not have the father on the birth certificate as you only need one parent to attain your Mexican citizenship.

First and last name must match on your birth certificate as it matches on your moms birth and death certificate. It is ok if her second last name is not included in your birth certificate. No problem if they didn't get married. Since your mom was born in Mexico then you will need her birth and death certificate in order to become a citizen. BUT YES! When I was born in US, I only have my dads last name (not the general mexican formality) - will this delay?

This in particular should not be an issue because Mexico recognizes the difference in naming practices. As long as the one last name on your birth certificate matches your dad’s first surname exactly as on his birth certificate, it should not be a problem

Hello , question… what if you only have your fathers last name on your birth certificate and your parents were never married. Will that be an issue ?
@EatBailaTravel
@EatBailaTravel Жыл бұрын
won't be an issue, but since they were never married they prefer your father attend the appointment with you or provide a notarized letter of support of your intent to obtain Mexican citizenship. I think it's like an additional layer of "legitimizing" your paternity since they weren't married

Hi! I went to get my MX passport (already a citizen through heritage, have CURP and Mx birth certificate) and they turned me away because I was using my American passport to identify myself? There is literally no other way for me to identify myself unless I get an INE and that’s a 2 month wait minimum

Just a curiousity here as I'm a UK-Romanian dual national. Why do mexican by descent citizens get given a letter of naturalisation? To my ears naturalisation is a word I associate with the process where a non mexican by descent lives in Mexico for 5 years and does the long winded process to become mexican. I was a little confused you'd also get this letter as well as the birth cert, and have to show it for the passport application. For me it's just a curiousity, but that said, I am curious

I know it is a separate country, but another big bonus is getting Spanish citizenship in two years instead of the usual ten years for everyone else outside what was the former Spanish Empire (as well as Brazil and Portugal) so if you ever want that EU passport then you have an excellent gateway in getting it with your Mexican citizenship.

Hi Nancy, you don't need to present your parent's info if you were born in Mexico, but your process will be a bit different. You can get your Mexican passport with your original birth certificate, but you'll also be asked for your "Declaratoria de nacionalidad mexicana por nacimiento". We don't have experience with this document but it sounds like you have to submit an application for your mexican citizenship (more info here: www.gob.mx/tramites/ficha/solicitud-de-declaratoria-de-nacionalidad-mexicana-para-los-nacidos-en-territorio-nacional/SRE2374#:~:text=La%20Secretar%C3%ADa%20de%20Relaciones%20Exteriores,el%20beneficio%20de%20la%20no)

Hi, thanks for your comment! Was your fiancé born in Mexico or was he previously registered with the consulate as a foreign born Mexican? Either way, if he’s had a Mexican passport before, it is likely that the consulate would have his birth certificate on file. We don’t have experience with this particular kind of situation but it makes sense to us that they’d be able to print you a new certified copy. Wish I could be more helpful!

@EatBailaTravel 6 күн бұрын
Nope, not it if their valid ID’s are issued by US agencies (the Mexican govt recognizes the American naming conventions of only one last name, so it’s fine that their ID’s show only one surname while their birth certificates (issued by Mexico) show 2. It’s more the spelling and any extra initials that tend to draw extra issues if those don’t match.
