What if they commit to posting the track to a KZbin channel with nearly 2 million subscribers, actively promote the song on social media and submit it to Spotify playlists on my behalf? I've been making music for several years now and one of the worst and most depressing aspects for me is trying to get my voice heard. I post my songs on KZbin and only get a couple of views (which is just me and my family). I know this is a tough field but I really wish I knew how to increase my reach and gain even a few listeners. I've been wanting post on Spotify and Apple for a while now, but the cost has always scarred me. This option you gave seems much more affordable and I hope it will allow real people to actually hear my music. It should also be noted that even though distrokid says that they'll give you 100% of your earnings, this is truly not the case. Distrokid also takes 30-32% out of your total earnings atleast when you're outside of the US. Not sure how much the tax is when you're living in the US, though. 30% federal tax, 1-2% distrokid fees. Just a few moments ago, I had $140-something in my account. I was only entitled for $90-something when I cashed out. But among all the distributors, they are the most affordable option out there. If you are doing covers, however, I would use soundrop instead since each song is only a one time fee unlike on distrokid where a cover is on a subscription payment basis. And if you start uploading quite alot of covers on distrokid, the cost can add up. On sounddrop, its a onetime fee of $10 per cover song. I'd recommend doing what I do: Use distrokid for original songs, sounddrop for covers.

Distrokid is great for originals.I like the one time legacy fee.For covers Soundrop is the way to go.

Just know that the legacy option will only apply on the artist‘s death or declined credit card during payment, but it will not apply when you intentionally cancel your subscription with them. Once you stop paying all your music will be taken down.

You'd be way better off using a record label, even if they take a lot of royalties. You get what you pay for, and Distrokid is as cheap as it comes. Their service does less than half of the things it says it does. There's an extremely limited amount of customizability. There are really strict criteria for everything and there's a high bar of entry.

You don't need special marketing tactics. If the music is good, it will be noticed by playlists and listeners. Spotify and other sites are incfredible at surfacing mew music. Every single song I have posted has been discovered by people with zero marketing. As loing as the music keeps getting better, people will organically follow. It's like these videos on KZbin, I've never done any marketing or adverts etc but because the videos add some value people notice them and follow :)

I think you're overlooking the power of having a KZbin channel with 280k subscribers, which in my opinion is a hell of a lot of marketing you've done right there (and fair play to you). But some kid creates a killer track, with no following or online presence and uploads it Spotify, how will people find those tunes with no marketing? Maybe you should do an experiment. Make a killer song, upload it to Spotify under a new name and say nothing to anyone about it and see if it get's discovered, listened to, shared, liked, playlisted etc. Then 6 months later make a KZbin video on the findings. It would be interesting to see what happens.

If you use amuse (app) you can upload, they take no royalties and it's completely free! One of the only things that seems too good to be true, rhat is true. It uploads to spotify, gplay, apple music, tidal etc and 52 other stores. Defo reccomend if you dont want to spend any money on it.

What are your thoughts on uploading covers with Distrokid? I personally don't like the idea of paying $12 a year per cover on top of the membership fee just to keep the mechanical licence active. I find that Soundrop, even tho they take a percentage off, I pay $9.99 per cover for the mechanical licence and its a one time fee. No recurring payments to maintain the mechanical licence. I do use Distrikid for originals though. I find its best due to what you say about keeping %100 of earnings, but for covers it's not my preference at least for now. What are your thoughts?

Some if not most of them have their own signup / portal where you can log in and change those things when you are verified. Google has this for sure and a few of those others I have logged in to. DistroKid is working on making this as seamless as possible but right now it's a tedious task no matter who you are

I'm based in the UK and signed up to PRS and MCPS. Only registered one short tune so far but now have a tune code for it. I did this short bit of music for a game initially but I may also be able to make some ring tones with it. I have a couple of questions, if I upload to Distrokid and they automatically sign me up to the American royalty collection organisations, how does that work when I'm already registered with PRS and have a tune code. The other question is if I make two ring tones from this piece of music would I registered each of those with PRS to get individual tune codes for them and even though they are snippets from the original piece of music would I have to give each it's own name. Or would it have to have the name of the original with the addition of an extra bit of discription like "ringtone 1 and 2" perhaps abbreviated to "name of song RT1,name of song RT2". Sorry it's a long question, but any advice is really appreciated.

If you double uploaded like that, don't worry. Distrokid will alert you and you can choose to take no action and both your KZbin and DistroKid will be in perfect standing :) We do it all the time for...maybe 30 songs

I am not sure of the exact details but I would depend how the label handles releases. A label we once signed with didn't care at all because they handled each artist on a per song basis. It's definitely something to look into more, but any label that demands 100% exclusivity from you is something to be cautious of. Not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware

Do I need to get the royalty for my music before distributing through distrokid or when i upload my music on distrokid it would be automatically done? Please help me i don't know about this.

You will also need an administrator publishing, Distro only collects from distributed or youtube! In order to collect for streamings and mechanical/ micro royalties you will need an administrator publishing, this will collect for mechanical and micro royalties for your beat/music being streamed Ascap or bmi won't collect this or distro, Yes distro will collect it from youtube! but not from other platforms Distro is amazing I love them we use them faithfully but you still need administrator publishing along with ascap or bmi Nice video!

Hi guys , i am wondering, does the some apply for Beat producers? i understand that edm, trance artists and so on can just go on spotify and so on but a beat producers wants to sell his beats actually so it seems wrong to me to make them public on streaming platforms. Or did i get something fully wrong here? :D i heart of people saying that a new beat producer should upload his music on youtube and soundcloud so that there is a chance that someone discovers you. but the chance is realyl small isn´t it? are there any other ways as well. or should i stick to DistroKid anyway?:)

What you think about gigs as an artist these days? Hello I am artist named Edizon from finland. Really nice to meet you here. I also do mixing as a profession but I have whole bunch of own music and I am really motivated to do some gigs on a bigger stage. What's then holding me back? @@inthemix I really appreciate your work and I would definitly pay for your videos if I could. You are one of the few channels here with such great quality and value. 👍 Also, did you work with Ableton yet and if so, what were your experiences? Since I'm quite new it was a hard decision for me to choose a suitable DAW. I ended up buying FL Studio, but I read a lot about speed, work flow und automation that should be easier in Ableton. At the end I just figured it would be the best to just buy one of them and get started at all.

@@je9533 you absolutely did the right thing to simply get one and get started! I find that Daws are so personal. I have used Ableton, can make music to a high level on it but I simply Hate it. It doesn't click with me and I don't mean it in a disrespectful way,my brain just prefers other workflows. And then I see incredible artists use it and KZbinrs like Andrew Huang and they clearly are not held back by it at all! Get some free trials and test things out,I like FL, Studio One and protools if I have to use it. But it's a very personal thing :)

What do you think about Amuse? My concern about distrokid is that there are couple features that come for extra price (YT ID, Shazam etc) and I don't know what might happen to my music if I (god forbid) unexpectedly die, seriously. Knowing that my music will live on and be there after me would just give me a peace of mind you know

I'm now beginning to make music and have finished my first track. It's available on Soundcloud to listen for free, and on my website I'll create a section where one can download the music for free. However, I'll sell the high quality (lossless) versions of each track, as well as remix packages for each track (containing single beat lines of every instrument/track/effect/vocal used). I don't mind people listening to my stuff if they want to - but re-using it to create a different version is something, I think, that should be paid for.
