In today’s JiuJitsu class recap, aKa our Two Minute Technique video, we cover how to defend and attack from the turtle position. There are some high level grapplers who recently stated that the best way to get up is through the turtle and I have to say that I agree with that, IF you know how to defend while doing so.
In my opinion, the Granby Roll is heavily underutilized in JiuJitsu which I find odd considering how extremely effective it can be in its various forms.
Here, we implement a level 1 Granby which can be used to recover guard, or better yet, drop directly into a traditional triangle.
From there, it’s often easy to hit the infamous TeePee choke if our opponent has already hidden their arm.
Even if you cant land the TeePee, in order to defend it they must release their arm from the side, which in turn allows you to once again attack the traditional triangle.
