You shouldn't put Mobil 28 or other high viscosity greases on the clutch. It will make the pawls stick. What you want is just a light spray of chain lube or some low viscosity grease.

you don't want that to reach the Nylon gear though right? best to stick with Mobil 28 to prevent the Nylon gear from wearing down.

@@michaelandrew83 According to Lekkie lot’s of people use Mobil 28 on the nylon and main drive gear and it seems fine. It’s just for the pawls that it’s too thick.

Err chain lube? I've never heard of anyone recommending that.

Doesn't this break the waterproof seal? Don't you need to apply RTV silicone sealant?

No it doesn't break if you're careful taking it apart . It's a rubber seal

How often are you doing greasing?? Every 2000 km or more or less?

I haven't hit 2k since I greased mine but I'd check it around this time but I hear even 5k plus it doesn't need it

@@NetfishnChill Just did mine at 1000km for the first time, a lot of that harder riding. First off, thanks for the video it was perfect. I greased my front thru axle as well and wow, way less rolling resistance and definitely made the bike smoother and a few km faster.

that looks like a lot of grease you putting there fella...gotta leave some room for the motor to turn otherwise you put the motor under strain and decrease the performance.

clay thickened grease ist just about the worst grease for gear lubrication. it sticks poorly and has bad ep capability. you don't need the crazy high temperature resistance. for gears you need the best balance between tackiness, fluidity and extreme pressure/shock loading capability. the stock black moly grease is way better than mobil 28, but the best grease for that really is a high tack synthetic grease blended with a fair amount of very thick industrial gearbox oil (220or 320 grade). just think about it: neodym magnets start to demagnetize at 100°C, just about any grease can handle 120°C. if you don't want to destroy your motor, you should never even remotely enter high temperature grease territory

Mobil 28 comes recommended by many, however.
@JoLe1991
@JoLe1991 2 күн бұрын
@StreetDogSteve the main question is: on what basis is it recommended? high temp resistance? we're talking about electric motors, neodym magnets lose their magnetic properties at around 100°C. Any grease is good enough to withstand 100 degrees. other than a crazy high dropping point it brings nothing to the table that would make it a good grease for a helical gearbox. tackiness, fluidity, EP, shock loads etc

@@JoLe1991 I'm no expert in it in the slightest, but from everything i've searched, the majority and even some manufacturers recommend it. My local ebike shop mechanic swears by it (Can't recall why though, he went on a whole thing) You seem to know about the subject, so i'm curious why you might think they would If it's not necessary?

@@StreetDogSteve because I've tried the Shell version of it (Aeroshell 22) and it performed terribly. flung off the gears in no time. Been using slightly liquefied polyurea ss grease with great success ever since. lucas' xtreme heavy duty with some heavy synthetic gear oil mixed in
