Super old school 80's style would be to simply cut the grip in two pieces both stopping at the logo..either straight cuts or you can cut a curve so it hugs around the logo somewhat. Whatever naked deck showing we would slap little puzzle pieces around the sides of the logo..or just leave it bare. This came out solid. Looks good.

I'm going to also be building a retro Powell board. I didn't even think about cutting out the logo but this is a great idea and I will do the same.

Evil DSM another person suggested drilling the holes for rails etc before gripping . Also you might want be more careful than me filing of the edges or use a knife ;)

Good vid but we need to work on your right and left a little as you flipped the mounting location of the logo (L/R) , Beyond that it was pretty good yet I have to ask.....is there a better way that just filling the paint off your new board? maybe masking the edge ???
@robcooper47307 жыл бұрын
Better off running a blunt object round the edge, like the shaft of a screwdriver, then trimming the grip tape with a razor blade.
@rickyspires77877 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. I will try that next time and I can't believe I got the L/R wrong after all that. hahahaha

Great job with the cutout logo but You also killed me with the file scratching the paint. Years ago I did them differently I would trace the outline of the board cut it then take a compass set it at 3/16 make another line inside of the first cut. then use dish soap and water same as putting on Vinyl graphics this way you never scratch the paint you can move the tape around as much as you want roll any bubbles out with a roller no sence telling you how I made one back then when they sell them now. I used a good pair of industrial sizzors to cut the outline of the board and it comes out like diecut you can even sand the edge on paper while it is off the board before you apply it but I never did. I liked the fresh mint look of it. For the logo I used exacto #11 blade and like another comment said pop holes where the trucks mount to set yourself up. Use hair dryer when rolling will not come up when dry.

@@rickyspires7787 yeah. Great job with the top graphic, but the file is just to trace the board, before cutting the excess grip with your razor/knife. But, anyway, 3 years later, I’m sure you know this now.

THis was a lot of work, so I just left a basic cutout and cut the rest of the grip into odd shaped pieces or puzzle pieces.

I would always use a heat gun and a wallpaper edge roller. Heat up the back of the grip tape with the heat gun before you remove the paper. Make a cut across the center of the grip tape and start in the middle, rolling the tape on top with the wall paper roller while pulling the paper out from underneath one side at a time. Then do the opposite side. Heat the whole board up and roll it out with the wall paper roller afterwards
