Hey John, I asked this question on another video, but this seems to be the most relevant episode to pitch it... So, being 5'9" I'm struggling with the 2k disc being absolutely gigantic... it's like tossing a dinner plate. What would be your suggestion for producing a stable release AND producing spin on the discus? There's a TON of moving parts leading up to this, so I'm expecting the answer to be related to the orbit and general hand angle coming into the block and extension off the right leg?
@johnbowmandiscus5 жыл бұрын
Chris Holloman Hey Chris! The release, in part, comes from keeping the discus behind you. A lot of times the discus comes out wobbly because we force it with our arm (letting it come in front of our hips) instead of letting it stay behind the hips. You will eventually get used to the 2k so just keep practicing and practicing. You got this! 👍

Hello! Please am having issues holding the discuss when coming out from the back of the circle when pivoting what do you recommend I do that will help
@johnbowmandiscus5 жыл бұрын
Make sure the discus is settled into the joint of your fingers. This will give you more control as you turn out of the back. 👍

I use my index finger to release all the time but during my season I have no time for my finger to heal so I get blisters every other month,I tape over and I use a rosin bag to get the grip.

Sir plzz can you tell me how to improve jerk in discus actually i tried a lot but my jerk and speed is very slow during throw
@johnbowmandiscus5 жыл бұрын
Speed in the throw takes a while to learn. Speed is the product of thousands and thousands of throws. The first thing to make sure is that your feet turn smoothly during all parts of the throw. The second thing is to keep your torso upright as you move through the ring. If those things are good then the release comes natural and the discus launches out of your hand. Patiently work on technique and the speed will come! You can do this!!! - John Bowman

Sir I know that I'm late to comment but I have problems releasing the discus do you have any recommendations plus reply
@johnbowmandiscus5 жыл бұрын
Best thing to learn the release is to toss the discus straight up in the air trying to get it to fly smooth with a lot of spin. This takes a little bit of time, but if you spend 20 minutes or so just throwing it up you can figure it out. Once you can fly it flat and smooth straight up, you can do it horizontally like the actual throw.

Is it ok if my thumb wraps a bit around the disc to hold it in place. I have really large hands so I essentially palm the disc but i still go out the front and it feels comfortable.
@johnbowmandiscus5 жыл бұрын
Yeah! If it feels comfortable and you release it well that's what matters the most!

Thank you for the comments! As for the discus coming off your middle finger, you have 2 options. First option is to let it be. I know some people who have thrown well like that. The second option is to just change. You can learn to make the discus come off your index finger, you really can. It will just take some intentional training for a couple weeks. 👍

Hey John, I’m trying to take down my discus state record this year and am looking into buying the Nelco ultra spin disc like the one you have in this video , I was wondering how the grip is on it because I do not usually like discs that are sometimes too slick and my hands get sweaty sometimes while throwing. Thanks
@johnbowmandiscus3 жыл бұрын
The ultra spin is a good discus. I like how it feels. Especially with a little bit of chalk 👍 Best wishes on setting the record 💪💪💪

He can't really help much with that limited information, realistically if you throw 35m you need to build up the basics and learn to throw the disc properly
