I just inherited a sweet 10 year old Maltese named Mally. The previous owner had shaved the hair down to the skin. I was waiting till I brought her to my vet to be checked and imunizations updated before I brought her to a groomer , I didn't really know how to clean her eyes but knew I needed to soften up the crusted hair. I just used warm water with cotton balls gently. I am looking for a groomer in Wilmington NC. I just loved your video. I would like to groom her myself but know that I wouldn't do it justice. You are amazing and gentle and I love your instruction. Molly is a spinner ! I will tell my friends about your channel. I would be so afraid to cut her nails. Now I know what to look for in a groomer. and can appreciate what goes into properly grooming a dog and realize the importance of keeping appointments on time and the groomer's perspective as well.

Thanks so much for this. Would you use the same kind of drier if the hair was kept long .. or would it be too powerful and end up tangling the hair? I keep all 6 of my Maltese in full coat and have always used a regular hand dryer and put it on/off the clip on stand as needed (obviously I brush the hair straight while im drying) however it takes forever with 6 of them so really could do with investing in a better quality dryer, i'm just not sure what would be best?

i have a question .i have an essay to write about how to trim a maltese dog .the information that i am provided with are that he is a maltese adopted from a shelter and he is very careful with people. the owner informs me that he gets dirty alot and especially the feet area . my question is what should i recommend the owner haircut/trimming wise and what hair texture does the dog actually have .i need help
@GoGroomer Жыл бұрын
They have what’s called a long coat. It’s easy to keep brushed and clean but bathing and especially conditioning is required. If the dog frequents a groomer every 6 weeks there should be no trouble keeping him clean and well kept. It if the owner does not value the importance of keeping him on a 6 week grooming schedule his hygiene and cleanliness will suffer due to that choice.
@tulipsandroses6263 Жыл бұрын
@@GoGroomer first of all thank you for replying.i want to ask should i write in the esssay ...the maltese dog has long silky straight hair but sometimes they can have a liitle bit of a curl or should i write ...maltese dogs have long silky hair.i am asking because on the internet it says that they have straight hair but there are some with curly.so i am confused what to write

Curious why you use a straight shear when trying to round Louie’s head.🤔🤔🤔Wouldn’t a curved shear be more helpful for us that are novice pet groomers? Not a criticism, just curious.🤔
@GoGroomer Жыл бұрын
Great question, you don’t need to have a curved shear and a straight shear to groom a dog. For years as a groomer, I only use the Straight Shear. I encourage beginner groomers to master their straight shear before using curved or blending Shears. You can produce the same work with a straight shear as a curved shear, it’s all about the angle you hold this shear.

I just don’t understand putting dogs through so much before cutting some of the dog hair off before bathing so it will wash faster and dry faster. The dog looks traumatized because it takes so long. Not meaning to be bad to you just don’t understand?
