How to grow scabiosa flowers is relatively simple. Hardy annual flowers like pincushion flowers can be started from seed and used in cut flower arrangements taken from the cut flower garden. Good luck!

Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. Before planting anything, research to determine whether specific flowers are considered invasive where you live or if there are laws that apply to their planting in your area.

I started Scabiosa (from Johnny's Seeds) last year and had pretty good luck. I'll know more if they come back this year.

Hi, Tonya! Happy early spring 🌿🌱 I’ve got some of these as first timers for me in the grow room. They’re starting to send up a central (bloom?) stalk. I could probably put them out soon (guessing) and cover when necessary, but should I pinch these first taller griwths off until I set them out? Thanks! I’m in southern Ohio and share similar conditions as you. I got caught and didn’t cover some things last night 😢 that one tricky 30° night slipped in amongst all the perfect cool season temps may have gottten me.

curious, I just received the exact pack of scabs from Johny's that are you using in your demo. Cool. I'm curious, Johnny's growing instructions don't indicate to refridgerate? Thanks John, Veracruz

Question: do you succession sow these? how many stems can one plant produce? thanks for great video!
@TONYAwiththeflowers
@TONYAwiththeflowers 3 жыл бұрын
I make a planting in the fall and another planting in the spring. Unfortunately, I don't have the space to try making additional successions. I've never counted how many blooms per plant, but I would say that each easily produces at least ten. Thanks for watching! :)

That's strange. They say perennial here and im in 6b as well. They say perennial from 5-8. Are not all scabiosa the same?

There are perennial types and annual types I'm learning. The "Fama" types, white and blue, are perennials. The others, generally available by seed, are annual, I think.

Your video says annual but I got “Fama White” from Johnny’s .. their packet says Perennial ..

do the seeds need light to germinate? do you cover them or leave them uncovered with soil?
@TONYAwiththeflowers
@TONYAwiththeflowers 3 жыл бұрын
Scabiosa do better with light to aid germination. I just press them firmly into the soil. Thanks for watching!

@@TONYAwiththeflowers thanks. so far my germination rate has been good, but they die shortly after with no soil to hold onto. I will try pressing them more firmly into the soil.

They can definitely handle 0 C. They need some kind of protection for 0 F, at least in my own experience. Thanks for watching.
